London, England – Broad Arrow, a Hagerty (NYSE: HGTY) company, has collaborated with Henry Catchpole to create a stunning film for Hagerty’s “The Driver’s Seat” series, featuring two very special Porsche models, recently consigned to Broad Arrow Private Sales.

Broad Arrow is well known for offering modern classic supercars to discerning collectors around the world, and the ultra-rare Porsche 911 TAG Turbo and RUF CTR Anniversary in this epic Hagerty and Broad Arrow film, bring that reputation to life.

This is the first time the stunning Mint Green (mintgrün; non-metallic UNI; 22R; Porsche) pair have been together on film, providing a rare chance to see, hear and experience both cars being driven as intended, as Hagerty’s Henry Catchpole puts them through their paces. In this exhilarating test, he tackles the picturesque Anglesey Circuit, capturing the raw nature, and sounds, of both cars while revealing their unique personalities.

Both cars impressed Catchpole with their unique character and exceptional performance on track. The RUF he described as “utterly extreme” and a “proper wild child” with its 710hp engine powering just the rear wheels. The TAG Turbo seemed to steel his heart. Expecting a car ruled by its engine, he noted how well-engineered the car is, concluding it felt like “one of the very best 911s” in history, and yet perfectly useable day-to-day.

The 2023 RUF CTR Anniversary is one of only 50 limited production models, and is a brand-new car finished in PTS Mint Green over a Black Alcantara interior. Offered with very low mileage and a digital copy of its original build sheet, it has been optioned with front axle lift, foldable Kevlar carbon bucket seats, lightweight door option, and harness crossbar in Alcantara. Powered by a 710-horsepower flat-six twin-turbo engine paired with a seven-speed manual gearbox, it is capable of 0-62 mph in 3.5 seconds with a 224-mph top speed.

Alois Ruf is rightly proud of this very special car, saying; “The first automobile that was completely conceived and manufactured by us marks a very special chapter in our company’s history, a 30th birthday celebration of the Yellowbird.”

The 1988 Porsche 911 TAG Turbo, consigned to Broad Arrow Private Sales, is one of only 11 built by Lanzante and this particular example was completed in 2020. Custom finished in Mint Green over Black leather with Blue/Green tartan cloth, it is offered with less than 300 miles since completion. Power comes from a 1.5-litre TAG Turbo “TTE P01” V6 Formula One engine developed by Porsche and rebuilt by Cosworth, which revs to 10,250rpm via a custom Porsche 993 six-speed gearbox and has a claimed top speed of 200 mph. The engine in this car was raced by four-time Formula One World Champion Alain Prost at the 1986 German Grand Prix and the 1987 Hungarian and Japanese Grands Prix.

Dean Lanzante said of his Porsche TAG Turbo creation: “It’s a car that celebrates history, the history between two amazing brands. But it will remain extremely rare because it has to be. We couldn’t get any more engines from McLaren, so this is it. There will never be another car like it.”

Broad Arrow VP of Sales for EMEA, Joe Twyman, provided driver support on the day and is behind the wheel of the second car throughout the film. Joe is a highly experienced driver in his own right having raced many important cars at events around the world. Speaking of his time with both cars, Twyman said: “While both are finished in the same colour, the cars themselves are very different. Both are extremely powerful but encourage the driver to get the best from them. They are also beautifully built, and exceptionally well developed and compliant both on track and on the road. The film will provide a real insight into the cars and will be both a joy to watch for any enthusiast while also providing an unrivalled level of insight for any potential buyer.”

Interested buyers should note the RUF CTR Anniversary has recently been sold, proving the ability of the Broad Arrow team to find the right buyer for specialist cars, swiftly.

The Porsche 911 TAG Turbo will be available to view on the Broad Arrow stand at the Retromobile show taking place in Paris on 5–9 February. Members of the Broad Arrow team will be on hand to show the car in detail to any interested buyers.

The story of Porsche and McLaren International – how the Porsche TAG Turbo was created
McLaren’s Ron Dennis approached Porsche in early 1981 to build a turbocharged Formula One engine and was initially told it would not be possible. Later, Porsche agreed to design a new 1.5-litre twin-turbo V6 engine, funded by Techniques d’Avant Garde Group S.A. (TAG), for McLaren.

The TAG-Porsche powered McLaren MP4/2s triumphed at 12 of the 16 Grands Prix in 1984, taking the Constructors’ Championship and giving Niki Lauda the Drivers’ Championship. 1985 brought a further six wins, a second consecutive Constructors’ Championship and Prost achieved his first Drivers’ Championship with five wins. Prost won the Drivers’ title again in 1986 with Porsche’s 1.5-litre TTE (TAG Turbo Engines) V6, now producing 910 horsepower in race trim and 990hp for qualifying. For 1987, Prost partnered with Stefan Johansson, and while the season wasn’t as successful as in the past, the Frenchman still managed three wins.

In March 1987 the TAG V6 was installed in a Porsche 911 Turbo. This unique car remains in the McLaren International collection and, aside from a surprise appearance at the 2012 McLaren Employee Motorshow, this special car has remained under wraps. What was gifted to McLaren by Porsche at the conclusion of their partnership appeared to be a lightly modified Grand Prix White 911 Turbo with RUF five-spoke Speedline wheels and a RUF front valance. Yet this valance hid two large radiators, and out back, two massive intercoolers were fitted underneath a relatively stock looking Turbo tail with a subtle ram-air scoop at the trailing edge.

Over the years, many of those aware of the car’s existence had made direct overtures to McLaren to acquire it, including Dean Lanzante, yet the answer was always no. Lanzante was persistent and persuaded the company to provide a 1.5-litre TAG Turbo intending to produce a second Formula One-powered Porsche Type 930. In the end, Lanzante and his team embarked on constructing 11 TAG-powered 930s—a car for each pilot in each year a McLaren MP4 was powered by a Porsche TTE engine.

The engine was extensively re-engineered by Cosworth and features new pistons, connecting rods, valves, valve springs, modern turbochargers, an updated cooling system, oil heat exchangers, and an Inconel exhaust with titanium tailpipes. The engine itself is an incredible 286 pounds lighter than the 3.3-litre air-cooled flat six it replaces. A Cosworth ECU and a bespoke Raychem motorsport-grade wiring loom manage the engine, paired with a six-speed H-pattern manual transmission featuring bespoke gear ratios for a 200-mph top speed via a twin-plate hydraulic carbon clutch.

    Why We Love It:

Not much to say about Nardo Grey that we haven’t said before- it was the undeniable color of the moment, and its inspiration can be clearly seen throughout the automotive landscape. But this particular example is much more than that. This Tailored Driver is the Audi brand connoisseur’s choice. Nardo Grey over Magma Red was chosen, but beyond the obvious is a host of choice upgrades. Audi Genuine Accessory Carbon Fiber mirror caps and rear spoiler. Black badges. An RS 4-look grille and what appears to be R8-like wheels with genuine Audi center caps. Money was spent here, and the theme was achieved.

    Why We Love It:

Known as the “Vanagon” in the United States, the Volkswagen T3 may be the 964 or 993 of the VW van lineage. While note quite as elegant as earlier T1 and T2 versions (a.k.a. Microbus), the more modern boxy shape retains the same rear-engine configuration that put Volkswagen (and Porsche) on the map. Also, its production run from 1979 to 1992 (practically the same as the Mk1 Golf/Rabbit Cabriolet) makes it a darling of the budding “rad era” car collector segment, while it was also a staple in the early #vanlife movement. All this combines to make for a robust collector market for T3s, meaning rare and special examples have realized appreciable gains. Throw in a special edition breathed on by a relevant remaster like a period German tuning house and you definitely have our attention.

As the sun was setting on the T3 era, Volkswagen moved to celebrate its retirement with a “Limited Last Edition” for the home market. 2,500 examples were built. Production was done by Steyr Puch under contract at their factory in Graz, Austria. The T3 you see here is 689 of 2,500.

The Limited Last Edition came standard in either Tornado Red and Orly Blue. One interior trim was offered, Velour Platinum Blizzard Diagonal fabric – a greyish design with diagonal greenish-blue stripes. Other equipment included there-point automatic seat belts for the rear seats, vented triangle windows at the front seat positions, headlight range adjustment and curtains. The only engine was a 1.6-liter turbo diesel with 68 horsepower or 2.0-liter fuel-injected petrol water-cooled boxer engine a.k.a. “wasserboxer” with 91 horsepower. Though incredibly practical as the T3 always is, neither engine made it particularly thrilling to drive.

That’s where Oettinger comes into play. Following World War II, Frankfurt-based Gerhard Oettinger, with a mechanical engineering degree he had originally used as a test engineer on Daimler Benz aircraft at the end of the war, decided to put his degree to use in other ways and created a business tuning Volkswagen Beetles. He’d eventually shift his focus to the VW Golf GTI, really building a name for himself by introducing 16-valve head for the Volkswagen engine years before the factory did.

When it came to the T3, Oettinger’s firm saw clear potential and so did Volkswagen. As the story goes, Volkswagen tapped Oettinger to produce a 6-cylinder version of the Wasserboxer. Alas, VW pulled out of the project before it was completed, but Oettinger soldiered on, calling it the “WBX6” and producing 3.5 (165 hp) and 3.7-liter (180 hp) versions. The net effect is described more as the “VW GTI” of vans rather than than the “Porsche 911” of vans, however there were vans of the period that used the Porsche air-cooled flat six that probably get that title.

Back to Oettinger, conversions based around the WBX6 were often paired sports suspension, structural upgrades, interiors and more. That’s about where this T3 Multivan slides into the picture, number 689 of 2,500. It was first delivered in Germany and finished in Tornado Red new from the factory. Receiving the Oettinger WBX6 conversion, it also got seats re-trimmed in two-tone grey and red leather.

Changes include a front spoiler, H&R 30 mm lowering springs wit Koni shock absorbers, steel braided brake lines, short-throw shifter conversion with extended 5th gear, Weinkrath-V4A stainless exhaust, front spoiler, Oettinger body enhancements and Projektzwo rear spoiler.

The wheels, 8x17s from OZ don’t look entirely period, making us wonder if they’ve changed over time. Same goes for the Projektzwo rear spoiler made by a firm that would have been a competitor to Oettinger.

This T3 has had five owners and is accident free.

    Why We Love It:

Audi’s Ara Blue Crystal Effect is the latest in a long line of truly incredible Blues to come out of Ingolstadt. This particular instance may not be the first time we’ve seen Ara on an S4, but dare we say it’s a better spec. The flat bottom steering wheel may not offer the heating element included in it’s traditionally round counterpart, but we think the trade is worth it. Less of a tradeoff is the full leather seats, whereas the prior Ara car had partial suede. Sure it may look cooler, but the feeling of sweat dripping down your back quickly negates any points earned. Ask us how we know.

    Why We Love It:

The DLS formula for Singer reimaginings is a remarkable thing. Launched in 2018, it created perhaps the ultimate specification for a classic 911, complete with all-carbon bodywork and 500 horsepower 4.0-liter flat six developed by Williams Advanced Engineering. The car was both incredibly expensive and very sought-after, making for years of waiting to get one or prices in the millions if you can find one (see above).

Should you wish to skip the line, Graham Rahal can help assist with this Dark Oliver over Antique Tan example. The black-painted Fuchs-like wheels give it an extra unique appearance even amongst other DLS where exposed silver star protrusions are the typical finish applied. That’s all a very tasteful mix, though there’s a premium attached. Check out the link above for more information, photos and contact details.

When covering these creations from Singer, we usually like to keep track of the Commission or title name given to the car. We’re not seeing one on this car, nor in the listing so if you happen to know then drop us a line or share it in the comments section below.

Thanks to Kevin Baker for the tip.

Java is an incredibly dynamic green- loud, but not obnoxious- at least to us. This M4 Competition’s prior owner took that Comp badge to heart, adding some choice track-focused OEM+ modifications, further helping it to stand out from the other M cars at Publix. That’s something we can get behind. Believe it or not, this is the second Java Green F80-gen M car we’ve featured from Clearwater, Florida’s Premier Auto Lounge. The dealer seems to pride itself on having a few Tailored Drivers in stock at any given time, meaning that there’s a good chance you’ll be seeing them again soon.

Gunther Werks Teases Another Drawing of E30 M3 Remaster Project Incignia Design

Porsche 993 remaster firm Gunther Werks has been teasing its idea of a reimagined E30 BMW M3 for a few years now, though recent activity on their stories has us believing they’re finally ready to pull the wraps off of their box-flared beauty.

Just last week we got a story with a potential name “Incignia”, and now we’ve got another story with a new rear quarter rendering revealing taillight design, and a link to a new Instagram account @incigniadesign that appears to be the official account of their M3 business line.

We’ve taken the image, flipped it horizontally and used an AI tool to fill in the gap for a better look at the whole car. We’ll keep watching Gunther Werks for more information, but for now enjoy what we’ve got here and give them a follow on Instagram HERE.

  • Color Focus: BMW Macao Blue Metallic – 250

Color Focus: BMW Macao Blue Metallic – 250

    CODE: 250

    TYPE: Metallic uni

    CONTENT ARCHIVE: Macao Blue

    SUMMARY:

BMW Macao Blue Metallic is a color that’s only ever been standard on M cars. It debuted on the BMW M3 (type E30) in 1986, though didn’t carry over to more modern M-cars until 2016 when it resurfaced as the spec color for the BMW M3 30 Jahre (type F80).

Macao Blue Metallic is a darker blue, sitting more on the purple side of the blue spectrum. Most often, it appears as blue, though purple undertones seem to pop under certain lighting.

Given its history with BMW’s M division, Macao Blue is a subtle choice that can be had from BMW Individual, harkening an if-you-know-you-know appreciative nod from other BMW aficionados while largely going unnoticed to average members of the populace.

    Why We Love It:

The E30 generation M3 is already one of the most sought-after classic BMWs on the planet, now throw in one of the rare limited editions and that compounds the value to enthusiasts – particularly enthusiasts of the 80s “rad-era” variety. In this case, the E30 M3 in question is a 1990, one the Johnny Cecotto Limited Edition models, and one of just 50 to be sold to in Swiss specification.

For the uninitiated, Johnny Cecotto was a multi-talented professional driver of Italian and Venezuelan decent who won the motorcycle racing world championship at just 19 years old, and would later compete in F1 and the DTM where he raced for BMW in the E30 M3. Due to his success there and apparent participation int he development of the E30 M3 road car, BMW introduced this special edition as a tribute to him and unveiled it in 1989.

BMW M created a video featuring Johnny Cecotto talking about the car and his career with BMW. Watch it here.

The Johnny Cecotto Edition boasted several notable changes, including an upgraded 215 horsepower version of the BMW’s S14 2.3-liter engine, plus larger front splitter and revised rear wing that would later also be used by the M3 Sport Evolution. Thinner side and rear glass helped reduce weight, while components like valve covers and intake manifold were color-matched to the car and the centers of the car’s 16-inch BBS 2-piece wheels were painted black. Body colors available were limited to Misano Red, Nogaro Silver and Macao Blue like this car. A plaque showing his name could be found on the center console.

Over its production run, BMW built 5,000 E30 M3s, which qualify as a homologation special having been produced explicitly to meet production requirements in order to compete in the German DTM touring series. Over the course of production, 480 Johnny Cecotto Edition M3s were built, with another 25 similar cars built as tribute to fellow M3 DTM driver Roberto Ravaglia. Interestingly, it would be Ravaglia who netted BMW a championship in 1989, while Cecotto’s best BMW DTM season result was as runner-up in 1990 when this car was manufactured.

Back to this car, it is a great specification from the factory, with Macao Blue Metallic paint and grey interior including rare grey M Tech fabric seat centers, a design that was unique to the special edition M3s including the Cecotto and the Evolution. M Tech is more commonly found in black, with reproductions available in the market.

Making this car a little more unique is the fact that it was built to Swiss specification. Only 50 cars were imported into Switzerland, and this Macao Blue example was one of those cars. It was delivered first to a dentist in Zürich, who later sold it to the final previous owner more than 20 years ago. The paint is said to be original.

    Price: $146,900

    Window Sticker: See Gallery
Location: Southeast Auto Showroom, Pompano Beach, FL
    Auction Link: Link

    Why We Love It:

Factory matte paint is always something special. More expensive than your usual paint to sample shades, it demands a certain premium up front and can prove a bit more work to maintain. Nevertheless, it almost always looks spectacular, emphasizing character lines and creases in the body that often get overlooked when coated with highly reflective gloss surfaces.

More often than not, we tend to see matte finishes on neutral shades – grey, black, white. It’s rarer to see them in colors like green, and also more of a rare find from Audi exclusive unlike brands such as BMW or Mercedes that have coined mattes with brand-specific terminology such as “frozen” or “magno”. Whatever. In a world where rarer is more interesting, a matte color on an Audi exclusive build is most interesting indeed.

That’s where this RS 6 performance comes in. We run our own internal check and see (as confirmed by the Monroney or window sticker) that it’s a matte paint. What we can’t see is final confirmation on the color, though a careful perusal of the photos makes us think it is Audi’s Sonoma Green that was pretty common on the early B9 RS 5, though never offered outside of exclusive for the RS 6.

No doubt this is a handsome car, and the specification continues with factory options including Matte Carbon Package, Bang & Olufsen Advanced Audio with 3D Sound, RS Design package plus (Grey), Executive Package, Driver Assistance Package, RS Sport exhaust, Red brake Calipers and Interior Protection Kit.

Checking out the CarFax, this wagon appears to have been sold new and serviced at Audi West Palm Beach.
