As 964 era Carrera Cup colors go, Signal Green may be the rarest. Yes, they’re all special but the rarer the more impactful and in that this recently imported 968 Coupé doesn’t disappoint. Is it worth $45,000? Well, it is a rare shade and it is low miles, but it’s also an automatic. To someone looking for a unique cruiser, this probably fits the bill. Alternatively, someone seeking the ultimate driver who likely wouldn’t be considering an automatic can also net a 968 Clubsport in Europe for similar money if they shop around.

It remains to be seen if the transaxle Porsche car market will ever truly explode, but that leaves even higher-priced rare specification examples like this one still a pretty good deal.

Market Find: 11K Mile Audi R8 GT in Samoa Orange on Bring a Trailer

Though popular amongst Audi exclusive clientele, Samoa Orange wasn’t an Audi exclusive color on the R8 GT. In fact, it is believed to have debuted as a launch color on that first limited-series GT Coupé, then has graced a few other special editions over the years.

Dropping on a car such as the R8 GT is a great way to make a paint color popular of course, a car where really any color inspires and looks spectacular. In the case of the Samoa Orange R8 GTs though, relatively common amongst R8 GTs, we’d argue it’s one of the most memorable color combinations for the car… and that’s before you consider most had matching orange stitching on the inside.

This one is particularly low mileage, and worth a second look.

Imagine, in period, being one of the few who can afford and even attain a car as exclusive as the Porsche 959. Now, imagine you take said 959 and have it converted to a roadster. Well, it happened, and that fascinating car is headed to RM Sotheby’s upcoming Milan sale.

The conversion was performed by Karl-Heinz Feustel in 1989 to a car reportedly sold new to Jürgen Lässig, a racecar driver with a 24 Hours of Daytona victory under his belt along with a runner-up at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Upon completion, the 959 was displayed at the 1989 Essen Motor Show. Think of it as Germany’s SEMA (but with some public and press days thrown in) and you’ve got the idea. No doubt the car, built in Grand Prix White with blue interior and matching soft top, left an impression amongst those who came out for the show.

The car’s called a ‘Speedster’ and perhaps that applies. The painted A-pillar and windshield frame appear to be more 911 Cabriolet than Speedster, but it’s still incredibly unique. The exclusivity of the configuration goes up even further when you consider that the car came with a color-matched removable hardtop in a transport case, a tonneau top and spare ‘Speedster’ windscreen that makes one wonder if the conversion utilized a windshield incompatible with either the 911 Cabriolet or the Speedster of its time.

Whatever the case, it’s a very special car, one you can find more information on via the RM Sotheby’s link above.

Market Find: 2023 BMW Individual Santorini Blue X3 M40i

    What: 2023 BMW X3 M40i
Color: BMW Individual Santorini Blue (santorinblauii; non-metallic uni; 327; BMW)
    VIN: 5UX83DP01P9P42631
    Mileage: 18,374
    Price: $58,985

    Window Sticker: N/A
Location: Peabody, MA at BMW of Peabody
    Dealer Listing: Link

    Why We Love It:

Santorini Blue has made multiple waves here at Tailored Driver; this time, we’re seeing it on a BMW X3 M40i. It’s quite rare to see a BMW Individual color on a non-M X3, but don’t underestimate it. This was a $4,500 factory paint option selected by the previous owner.

Santorini Blue has graced multiple generations of BMWs, starting with the E36, and remains a standout choice in today’s BMW Individual program. This vibrant shade is reminiscent of colors like Laguna Seca Blue and Voodoo Blue, and it complements the X3’s body lines exceptionally well. Pair it with Black Vernasca Leather inside, and you’ve got yourself a true tailored driver.

Thinking of scooping this up? Contact Doug Currie at BMW Peabody and let him know Tailored Driver sent you.

It’s also got Mahogany partial leather interior with matching top that make it truly unique, even amongst a run of just 825 speedsters built only in 1989.

  • Market Find: Audi exclusive Nardo Grey SQ7

Market Find: Audi exclusive Nardo Grey SQ7

    What: 2022 Audi SQ7
Color: Audi exclusive Nardo Grey (nardograu; UNI; LY7C; Audi)
    VIN: WA1AWBF70ND018415
    Mileage: 57,590 miles
    Price: $50,487
    CarFax: Link
    Window Sticker: N/A
    Location: Upper Saddle River, NJ
Listing: Jack Daniels Audi of Saddle River

Perhaps we’ve said it before, but we’ll proudly say it again- Audi’s SQ7 is the most under-rated vehicle in their lineup. The RS 6 gets all the looks, and the S/RS Q8 gets all the Urus comparisons, but if you want a 500hp family hauler that’ll road trip with the best of ’em, look no further. A fortunate side effect of that lack of attention and admiration, for us at least, is Q7-style depreciation. Just three years old, having no prior accidents reported, and showing 57,000 miles on the odometer, this SQ7 is now for sale at approximately 50% of it’s original price. Are these things really that cheap? A quick cars.com search suggests that yep, they sure are. This particular example sporting Audi exclusive Nardo Grey paint seems like a great way to get into a Tailored Driver that punches well above its weight for $50k.

  • Market Find: BMW Individual Verde Ermes Pearl Metallic X7 xDrive 40i

Market Find: BMW Individual Verde Ermes Pearl Metallic X7 xDrive 40i

    What: 2022 BMW X7 xDrive 40i
Color: BMW Individual Verde Ermes Pearl Metallic (pearl effect; P7T; BMW)
    VIN: 5UXCW2C06N9K63484
    Mileage: 46,714 miles
    Price: $54,900
    CarFax: Link
    Window Sticker: N/A
    Location: Bridgeport, CT
    Listing: Skedaddle Cars

Tailored Driver is about pushing boundaries, and this X7 does exactly that in more ways than one. BMW Individual Verde Ermes Pearl Effect is one shade we’re not certain we’ve seen before, but we certainly think it was a big bet that paid off for the original Tailor. It’s also helped to push our own boundaries by inspiring a deep dive into Verde Ermes in hopes of learning more. While that search is still very much ongoing, we can say that the color seems to have first appeared on the facelifted F90 M5 Competition with BMW USA ordering at least one of their Press cars in the hue. Since, we’ve seen images of it on the i4, G80 generation M3, and a few other models in BMW’s range- all with stunning results.

  • Market Find: BMW Individual Frozen Black M3 Coupe

Market Find: BMW Individual Frozen Black M3 Coupe

    What: 2011 BMW M3 Coupe
Color: BMW Individual Frozen Black Metallic (frozenschwarz; metallic matte; U91; BMW)
    VIN: N/A
    Mileage: 87,000 miles
    Price: $34,000
    CarFax: N/A
    Window Sticker: N/A
    Location: Farmingdale, NY
    Listing: Facebook Marketplace

Special editions are always a bit of a grey area in the Tailored Driver world because to be honest, they’re usually just a ploy to move a few units with very specific options. This Frozen Black Edition M3 is the exception to the rule- just 20 were made for the US and if you wanted one, you had to call a hotline at a specific time to get it. Seriously. But while the method of initial procurement is now antiquated to the point of silliness, the M3 still looks incredibly modern. A high revving V8 is paired with the quick shifting DCT, and iDrive is present, meaning a CarPlay retrofit is an easy and worthwhile endeavor. Perhaps the best bit is the price. At $34k, it’s well within the ballpark of what a run-of-the-mill M3 would fetch in today’s market.

  • Market Find: Audi exclusive Aventurine Orange Mica TT S

Market Find: Audi exclusive Aventurine Orange Mica TT S

    What: 2017 Audi TT S

    Window Sticker: N/A
    Location: Selma, TX
    Listing: Audi North Park

This right here is exactly why we started our Tailored Driver experiment, and why we saw a need in the space. Audi North Park has a very cool TT S in the rarely seen Aventurine Orange Mica- that’s the headline. But based on presentation, you’d really need to be looking to find it. Billed as Tango Red, this higher-mile TT S hasn’t been prepped for sale in a meaningful way- visibly dirty, missing the tow hook cover on it’s front bumper, boiler plate description text. Quite likely to be a 1 of 1, frankly the car deserves better and the reality is that unless you’re nearby, it’s nearly impossible to assess the true condition of the car. So a the current asking price of $26,995, is this Tailored Driver one you’re willing to take a chance on? We’re going to remain neutral on that for now, we just hope the next steward cares more than the selling dealer seems to.

  • Market Find: Audi TT RS Heritage Edition in Alpine White at BMW Minnetonka

Market Find: Audi TT RS Heritage Edition in Alpine White at BMW Minnetonka

    What: 2022 Audi TT RS
Color: Alpine White (alpinweiß; non-metallic UNI; L90E; Audi)
    VIN: WUAASAFV2N1900426
    Mileage: 32,525 miles
    Price: $70,000

    Window Sticker: Pictured Below
    Location: Minnetonka, MN
    Listing: BMW Minnetonka

We’ve covered the Audi TT RS Heritage cars in the past, but due to incredibly limited quantities and equally tasteful build configurations, we simply do not see them often. Just 50 in total (10 each of five different heritage-themed color combinations) were produced, which nearly guarantees the buyer of this particular Tailored Driver be the only one they’ll ever encounter- a feat usually reserved for cars in the 6 and 7 figure range. Through that lens, the modest bump in pricing over a run of the mill TT RS seems like a downright bargain. So here we’ve got nearly the perfect vehicle for the Tailored Driver ethos- an enthusiast model that boasts scarcity at a somewhat attainable price of entry.

A massive thank you to Matt for the submission! If you have a line on something Tailored Driver should be featuring or may have missed, please do not hesitate to send us a private message.
