Ferrari built just 150 examples of the Dino 206 GT in 1968. The car you see here is the 38th in that run, and one of just three to be produced from the factory in Nocciola Metallizzato (Italian for Hazelnut Metallic).

The car was produced October 1, 1968, and delivered new to a dealership in Rome. It was imported into the U.S.A. in the 1970s, and was refurbished including a repaint to yellow in the 1980s. It next moved to Japan, then back to America where it was refurbished a second time between 205 and 2017 when it was returned to its original color combination including black vinyl with red leather seat inserts.

The 206 GT means it’s got the 2.0-liter quad cam V6, which is paired to a 6-speed transaxle.

The car’s listing on Bring a Trailer is quite thorough, detailing the car’s history in considerably more detail. It also includes two different sets of photos – even more of the studio shots you see here, and also shots outside under sunlight.

It’s sadly not as often as we’d hope that something comes across our desk from seemingly out of far left field and leaves us speechless, but that’s exactly where we find ourselves this morning. Paint to Sample Gold Bronze Metallic is nowhere on our radar, and after seeing it here- we’d say that’s a miss. More Bronze than Gold with a vibrancy helped by generous metallic flake, the color is stunning. No doubt that the black wheels, bucket seats, yellow belts and bright red fire extinguisher helps to juxtapose the color with a focused seriousness, but we’ll count ourselves among the converted.

Audi exclusive Kemora Grey is hot, and for our money the SQ5 is one of the more under-rated models in Audi’s current lineup. Does that make this a must-have Tailored Driver? Maybe, if not for the seeming astronomical list price of $77,285.. and that’s after you factor the $5,000 discount placed on its hood. If you’re in the lease market, the story doesn’t get much better. So while Tailored Finance this is not, we can’t help but think the play here might be to set a Google alert for this VIN and wait for depreciation to take hold.

  • Tailored Product Planning: Porsche Needs to Build a 718 R

Tailored Product Planning: Porsche Needs to Build a 718 R

Over the weekend, a close friend phoned me up, informing me he’d picked up a 718 Cayman RS. He was on his way home from the dealership and was wondering if I wanted to sample it. Of course, I did. Of course, I romped on it as it was pre-owned and already broken in. And, of course I was impressed.

Having done so and parked it, we shared a walk around. It’s an amazing thing; rowdy, raw and spartan. It got me to thinking of just one thing though, just how I’d change it if I were ordering one or… better yet… a product manager, because what I’d do to it may not even be possible via Sonderwunsch.

It’s hard not to be inspired by the 911 S/T. That version of the 911 takes the very racy 911 GT3 RS and tones it down in a steerable way. It’s the Touring of the RS lineage, yes there are differences but more exclusive and more potent. Also, that hardware’s already baked and all those cars are already sold.

Back in 2011, Porsche produced the limited edition Cayman R. Pre-dating the 911R and all that car’s mystique, the Cayman R was effectively Peridot Metallic launch color paint on a Cayman body fitted with period Boxster Spyder hardware. This was in the pre-GT4 era, so that generation Boxster Spyder was fairly light on special hardware, but it had it and the Cayman R got it.

Brandy about the letter R nowadays and there’s a whole other level of mystique thanks to the 991-generation 911R. Consider the Cayman R in that context, and such a title fits decidedly higher in the lexicon of Porsche today.

So, let’s get back to the 718 Cayman RS. If I have beef with the car, you can probably guess them. Porsche already did with the 911 GT3 RS, and they built a corresponding 911 that would make those things more livable and steerable. It got the “S/T” badge because of heritage, though I’d argue it probably should have gotten the “Carrera RS” badge because the 964 Carrera RS speaks more directly to the age group buying 911 S/Ts, but that’s a soapbox for another time.

Whatever the name, what if you took all that S/T philosophy and positioning and added it to the 718 line? It only seems to make sense really. We all know the 718 is the better footprint, and most of the work has already been done.

I turned to Porsche’s configurator tool, running it through photoshop to add S/T correct wheels and cues like that front wheel well blade, gold letter script at the rear and a few other details. I’m kind of in love, so consider this my unrequested love letter to Andy Prueninger and company to consider bringing back the Cayman R. The time is right, and this may be our last chance before this model goes electric.

Behold, the 718 Cayman R. Spoiler Delete Alert: No such car exists. At least not yet.

Seems like tone on tone is the new black right now, and this Blue America over Blue Sterling leather Ferrari 812 GTS certainly qualifies. In addition to all the blue, this Atelier New York build also includes Blu Sterling steering wheel and upper dashboard, special internal glossy blue carbon fiber, red seat belts and Bianco 2000 stitching. There are also some elements on Rosso Ferrari leather such as center console, lower dashboard and door panels.

It is a very unique and tailored build to be sure.

If you’re looking to have your Tailored Driver featured as a Market Find, a sure-fire way to do so is to paint it some variant of Green, and pair that with either Tan or Brown seats. British Racing is this Tailored Driver’s shade of green, and Tarfuto it’s Brown- never has a more safe bet been placed. And while the G80 M3 might not be everyone’s cup of tea, we think we can all agree this spec does the divisive design a ton of favors.

It (almost) never fails. Tailored Driver finds something, tells you how rare or uncommon it is, and within days, another one surfaces. Egg’s on our faces, right? With this one- not so much. A first-generation RS 7 with the Performance package and incredibly sought-after Akrapovic Titanium exhaust that was a factory option, this example is perhaps an even more interesting proposition than the last. It carried an original sticker of reportedly $160k, features deviated stitching in Blue throughout it’s cabin, and somewhere along the way, suffered what CarFax denotes as “Moderate” damage. That’s to say that while the selling dealer will not disclose their price, massive depreciation is to be expected, although an “I know what I’ve got” number is likely to be expected as well.

Though Laguna Green Metallic was a standard color (in Europe at least) on the E31 BMW 8-Series, we’re going to give this car a pass because it’s decently rare and also because it’s an excellent spec.

Let’s start with the basics. The BMW 850 CSi of this era is a highly sought after car by Bimmerphiles and also purists alike for its relative affordability considering the fact that it boasts a 380 hp V12 engine and 6-speed manual transmission.

As for the specification, Laguna Green is a medium metallic green so not especially remarkable unless you just love green cars. Even still, the car has a handsome period two-tone interior that appears to be Lotus White with Black. We also note the sport steering wheel with BMW M color stitching.

Goodwood Green has a robust heritage at Audi, having been a handsome darker green offered in any number of models over the years. Today, it’s a popular choice from the Audi exclusive color palette. The Q7 you see here that’s part of Audi Flemington’s new car inventory sports this color as part of an additional Audi exclusive option.

When you click through to the link, don’t let the “Q7 55 Premium” headline plus that price scare you. We checked the window sticker / Monroney attached to the listing and it’s a highly optioned Prestige where Audi’s good/better/best ladder of pre-packaging goes Premium/Premium Plus/Prestige. It’s also got Bang & Olufsen 3D sound, black optics, all-wheel steering, carbon fiber mirror caps, trailer hitch and some other options that mean it’s basically loaded.

When it comes to the Porsche 911 GT3 RS, Ice Grey Metallic was a launch color that’s deemed a Special Color in the order books and one for which you’d pay a premium. Does that make it tailored? Well, we’d say that’s borderline but we’ll let it pass on a car as rare as the GT3 RS and in such a well-executed factory specification. That’s particularly the case when this cool shade of grey is paired with the same Satin Indigo Blue wheel finish first launched on the 718 GT4 RS models.

Other options for this car include Weissach Package, Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB) with calipers in yellow, front axle lift, deviated stitching package, surround sound, LED-Matrix Design headlights in black and more.
