Some of us a are more, well, thorough than others when it comes to the Tailored Driver ethos. Paint to Sample colors are incredibly prevalent, so if you really want to set yourself apart from the others at your local Cars and Coffee (especially in the Bay Area), you have to bring it. The former owner of this Tailored Driver sure as hell got that memo, as they took their Signal Green GT3 and went nearly full Cup car by curating tasteful items from BBS Motorsport (E88 Wheels), Manthey Racing (3-way Clubsport suspension), Dundon Motorsport (D3 Engine package) and Porsche Motorsport (Fenders, Liners, Splitter) to arrive at the result seen above. For good measure, it’s also got a few OEM+ touches as well, specifically a carbon hood from a 911R, GT3 RS Side Skirts, and brake cooling ducts from the GT4 RS. If this is your idea of perfection, head to Porsche San Francisco to achieve Platinum-level Tailored Driver status.

Perhaps take from the dealer-doesn’t-know-what-they-have department is this 2018 Audi exclusive RS 7. Why do we say this? Well, for starters the description (Panther Black Crystal Effect, and Black with Mercato Blue Interior) don’t seem to match the photos. Admittedly, the photos are low resolution, so it’s a shame we can’t see the original high-res files.

We ran the VIN and the car is checking in as Teak Brown, which matches the color seen in the photos. That all makes sense. There are no Audi exclusive badges on the door panels, hinting that whatever the interior is, it was a standard offering in period. So, you have a nicely-built RS 7 in a relatively rare Audi exclusive color. Now, throw in the relatively low miles of 53,816 and the price at $58,900 that KBB rates as a “Great Price” and we’d say it’s a great buy.

    What: 2007 Porsche Boxster S
Color: Unconfirmed, Believed Nordic Gold (nordischgoldmetallic; metallic UNI; M2Z / 8W; Porsche)

We’re not 100% confirmed on the color of this well-kept 987 Boxster S, but we believe it’s Nordic Gold Metallic. The period is correct, and there aren’t a lot of colors close to this in the Porsche Paint to Sample palette so we’re fairly safe in saying it. Whatever it is though, it’s handsome and tastefully paired with a close-to-tone interior.

Nordic Gold Metallic is perhaps best known for being a launch color on the Porsche 911 Targa (type 997). Even though that’s an exceptionally rare car, we’re guessing you’re more than likely to have seen one of those than you are to have seen Nordic Gold on an early Boxster S like this one.

Interestingly, it’s a Tiptronic. Because it’s an early 987 and not a later 987.5, this means it’s got the torque converter automatic rather than twin clutch DSG. Regardless, it’s an incredibly handsome cruiser.

We’ll say it over and over until we can’t any longer. We’re ALWAYS (and I mean ALWAYS) fans of dealer salespeople who bring Audi exclusive listings to the enthusiast fore and often ahead of their dealerships. Before we get into this car, it’s worth thanking Martin Tuma at Audi Westchester for posting it to Facebook (our main link above). It’s also available on the dealer website with more photos and information HERE.

What we have is a Nogaro Blue R8 Spyder. Conventional thought would suggest that one of Audi’s most popular colors such as Nogaro Blue would be a regular spec for Audi exclusive R8 buyers – the R8 being Audi’s own supercar. Interestingly though, it’s not, making a Nogaro Blue R8 a decidedly rare thing.

It’s also got the optional (and equally rare) Recaro shell seats, making it an exceptional specification. It’s new, quite low mileage and quite well maintained, which all combines to make it something worth considering.

  • Market Find: Signal Green Porsche 968 Coupe

Market Find: Signal Green Porsche 968 Coupe

    What: 1992 Porsche 968 Coupé
Color: Signal Green (signalgrün; non-metallic UNI; 22S; Porsche)
    VIN: N/A
    Mileage: 54,000 miles
    Price: $45,000

    Location: Lee, MA
    Listing: Link

As 964 era Carrera Cup colors go, Signal Green may be the rarest. Yes, they’re all special but the rarer the more impactful and in that this recently imported 968 Coupé doesn’t disappoint. Is it worth $45,000? Well, it is a rare shade and it is low miles, but it’s also an automatic. To someone looking for a unique cruiser, this probably fits the bill. Alternatively, someone seeking the ultimate driver who likely wouldn’t be considering an automatic can also net a 968 Clubsport in Europe for similar money if they shop around.

It remains to be seen if the transaxle Porsche car market will ever truly explode, but that leaves even higher-priced rare specification examples like this one still a pretty good deal.

Market Find: 11K Mile Audi R8 GT in Samoa Orange on Bring a Trailer

    Location: Potomac, MD
    Listing: Bring a Trailer

Though popular amongst Audi exclusive clientele, Samoa Orange wasn’t an Audi exclusive color on the R8 GT. In fact, it is believed to have debuted as a launch color on that first limited-series GT Coupé, then has graced a few other special editions over the years.

Dropping on a car such as the R8 GT is a great way to make a paint color popular of course, a car where really any color inspires and looks spectacular. In the case of the Samoa Orange R8 GTs though, relatively common amongst R8 GTs, we’d argue it’s one of the most memorable color combinations for the car… and that’s before you consider most had matching orange stitching on the inside.

This one is particularly low mileage, and worth a second look.

Imagine, in period, being one of the few who can afford and even attain a car as exclusive as the Porsche 959. Now, imagine you take said 959 and have it converted to a roadster. Well, it happened, and that fascinating car is headed to RM Sotheby’s upcoming Milan sale.

The conversion was performed by Karl-Heinz Feustel in 1989 to a car reportedly sold new to Jürgen Lässig, a racecar driver with a 24 Hours of Daytona victory under his belt along with a runner-up at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Upon completion, the 959 was displayed at the 1989 Essen Motor Show. Think of it as Germany’s SEMA (but with some public and press days thrown in) and you’ve got the idea. No doubt the car, built in Grand Prix White with blue interior and matching soft top, left an impression amongst those who came out for the show.

The car’s called a ‘Speedster’ and perhaps that applies. The painted A-pillar and windshield frame appear to be more 911 Cabriolet than Speedster, but it’s still incredibly unique. The exclusivity of the configuration goes up even further when you consider that the car came with a color-matched removable hardtop in a transport case, a tonneau top and spare ‘Speedster’ windscreen that makes one wonder if the conversion utilized a windshield incompatible with either the 911 Cabriolet or the Speedster of its time.

Whatever the case, it’s a very special car, one you can find more information on via the RM Sotheby’s link above.

    Why We Love It:

Santorini Blue has made multiple waves here at Tailored Driver; this time, we’re seeing it on a BMW X3 M40i. It’s quite rare to see a BMW Individual color on a non-M X3, but don’t underestimate it. This was a $4,500 factory paint option selected by the previous owner.

Santorini Blue has graced multiple generations of BMWs, starting with the E36, and remains a standout choice in today’s BMW Individual program. This vibrant shade is reminiscent of colors like Laguna Seca Blue and Voodoo Blue, and it complements the X3’s body lines exceptionally well. Pair it with Black Vernasca Leather inside, and you’ve got yourself a true tailored driver.

Thinking of scooping this up? Contact Doug Currie at BMW Peabody and let him know Tailored Driver sent you.

Perhaps we’ve said it before, but we’ll proudly say it again- Audi’s SQ7 is the most under-rated vehicle in their lineup. The RS 6 gets all the looks, and the S/RS Q8 gets all the Urus comparisons, but if you want a 500hp family hauler that’ll road trip with the best of ’em, look no further. A fortunate side effect of that lack of attention and admiration, for us at least, is Q7-style depreciation. Just three years old, having no prior accidents reported, and showing 57,000 miles on the odometer, this SQ7 is now for sale at approximately 50% of it’s original price. Are these things really that cheap? A quick cars.com search suggests that yep, they sure are. This particular example sporting Audi exclusive Nardo Grey paint seems like a great way to get into a Tailored Driver that punches well above its weight for $50k.
