Some Tailored Drivers come with more of a story than others, and if written, this Driver‘s page count would be somewhere between War and Peace and The Bible. The incredibly brief version is that this GT3 was repossessed wearing a half-completed widebody prototype, and at some point transitioned from being a vehicle to being someone’s living quarters. It was then passed around for a bit, until eventually the current seller set out to bring it back to presentable. With a full glass-out respray (and probably a lot more!), the car is presentable and could be just the no-reserve ‘deal’ someone is after.

Massive thanks to Kevin C for the tip!

This Tailored Driver has already started to cause somewhat of a crisis within our office. George loves the RS 5 sportback. George loves Porsche’s Chalk color. But he’s also picky. While not a Comp pack model, this RS 5 has just about everything he wants in a Driver. Now, can you retrofit the suspension and steering rack from the Comp? Probably. But as it’s not guaranteed, it’s a big gamble. Can we peer pressure him into a financial boondoggle? Watch this space to find out.

  • Dario Franchitti Aquires 1-of-1 Rolls-Royce Silver Spectre Shooting Brake by Niels van Roij Design

Dario Franchitti Aquires 1-of-1 Rolls-Royce Silver Spectre Shooting Brake by Niels van Roij Design

Admittedly, we watch Netherlands-based Niels van Roij Design with great interest. While no, they’re not a factory tailor nor a remastering firm like so many you’ll find on this site, they perhaps are even more unique.

They’re a coach builder. They use the terms and we’d agree. In the spirit of pre-war coach builders from whom you’d commission your custom bodied Rolls-Royce, Bentley, Horch, Bugatti, Packard or the like, clients can and do commission highly specialized cars from Neils van Roij, and his firm delivers. In this case, the car was a modern Rolls-Royce Silver Spectre, though built as a shooting brake.

What’s a “shooting brake”? Much like the “station wagon” term comes from the day of horses pulling carriages. Whereas you’d take your station wagon with bed for storage to the train station, you’d take your shooting brake built for carrying guns and equipment to go out shooting. It’s all very logical of course, just like shooting brakes and station wagons with their long roofs enabling you to carry more luggage, gear, guns, hunting hounds, or whatever you may need.

This isn’t a reveal of the Silver Spectre Shooting Brake. The car has made its rounds on media platforms, though Neils van Roij design’s post this week on social media is still worth taking note of. As it turns out, this very special car has a notable new owner – famed racing driver Dario Franchitti.

According to the post, the car was recently listed with Joe Jacari, which is how Franchitti came to own it.

  • Color Check: Audi exclusive RS 6 in Dragon Orange

Color Check: Audi exclusive RS 6 in Dragon Orange

We’ve got one last car from German Audi dealer Scherer Sport to highlight their mix of RS 6 performance wealth… at least until they share a few more. For this particular RS 6 performance, the specification turns to a color introduced with the market arrival of the pre-facelift Audi Q8 range.

That color is Dragon Orange Metallic (drachenorange; metallic Uni; LY2Y / Y4; Audi). This was a stock color on the Q8 range, meaning that even though it had a relatively low take rate it still can be found with some regularity on Q8, SQ8 and RS Q8 specimens.

However, it’s rare as an Audi exclusive decision so finding it on an RS 6 is a fresh take on a familiar hue. It’s also not Samoa Orange, Ipanema Brown or Solar/Glut Orange, more typical amber hues from Audi exclusive. By our measure, that makes this RS 6 performance decidedly unique.

The next owner of this Tailored Driver has to really love brown. While we’ve played around with Porsche’s Paint to Sample configurator and toyed with the idea of Sepia Brown, we’ve yet to see someone take the plunge. Perhaps because it’s a non-metallic, meaning it’s a LOT of brown. That certainly didn’t deter the curator of the spec, as they doubled-down on the choice with Heritage seats in Cognac Leather. Is it too much of a good thing? We’ll let you decide.

Speed Yellow Porsche 964 Carrera RS 3.8 Hits RM’s Private Sales Department

    What: 1993 Porsche 911 Carrera RS 3.8

Unlike the much more common Porsche 911 Carrera RS of the 964 era, the 911 Carrera RS 3.8 is an actual homologation special. Okay, technically the “plain” Carrera RS boasted a lot of changes consistent with the then-current Carrera Cup series, but the 911 Carrera RS 3.8 was built literally to homologate the car for international GT racing requirements.

Beginning the with shell of a Porsche 911 Turbo used for its wider track, each car was transported to Weissach’s racing department so that it could be hand built. Lightweighting ensued, limited not just to deletion of unnecessary equipment but also introducing aluminum equivalents of doors and front trunk lid from the RS 3.6. The car’s RS front spoiler got an extra lip for improved downforce, while other changes included replacement of the foglights with air ducts for the oil cooler, a larger adjustable rear wing, plus 3mm gauge glass for side and rear windows.

Those are just the visual changes. This was a Porsche homologation special after all, which means the chassis got its share of changes too. A larger diameter adjustable anti-roll bar, strut brace, Bilstein suspension, Turbo brakes, reprogrammed ABS, and deletion of power steering all added to the car’s capabilities. Beyond that, it rolled on three-piece 18-inch Speedline Cup wheels in 9-inch width at the front and 11-inches at the rear.

Under the fiberglass engine cover was the M64/04 3.8-liter flat six. That motor was derived form the same 3.6 as the Carrera RS, though it was bored out to 102mm while stroke was retained. Lightweight pistons with shorter wrist pins and reduced head height were also part of the design, as were six individual throttle bodies positioned close to the inlet ports. There was a custom inlet manifold and larger valves with lightweight rockers, not to mention a twin-pipe exhaust system.

Only 55 examples of the 911 Carrera RS 3.8 were built, plus another 49 Carrera RSRs, which was enough satisfy the FIA’s homologation requirement of 100 cars. Interestingly, only one road car was required by the rule, though Porsche shrewdly built quite a few more in order to net some additional income. This was, by the way, the 964 era where Porsche was struggling to stay afloat financially.

This specific car was built in 1993 and is one of twelve examples to be built in Speed Yellow. The seatbacks of the car’s Recaro Pole Position seats were color matched to the body, while the rest of the interior was trimmed in black leather along with contrasting grey seat inserts just as we tend to see in the Carrera RS.

The car was first delivered to Porsche Zentrum Bielefeld in Germany in October 1993, then was exported to Japan before again returning to Europe in 2007. It’s currently located in Paris, France, though its age would make it an easy import into North America.

St. Moritz, Switzerland – During the prestigious “The Ice” event, an occasion born from the idea of Marco Makaus and held on February 21st and 22nd, Totem Automobili made a striking appearance in the heart of St. Moritz. The brand presented “Freia,” the GT Electric chassis no. 2, captivating the strolling public with its full-electric powertrain.

For the occasion, “Freia” was equipped with Michelin Pilot Alpin 5 winter tires, perfectly suited for the alpine setting. Adding a refined touch of elegance, the vehicle’s front storage compartment was transformed into an ice bowl, housing bottles of Asolo Prosecco from Villa Sandi. This renowned winery, deeply rooted in the Treviso region, is also a proud sponsor of the Snow Polo event, an annual celebration of sport, hospitality, and luxury held on the frozen lake of St. Moritz.

  • Color Check: Audi exclusive RS 6 performance in Riviera Blue

Color Check: Audi exclusive RS 6 performance in Riviera Blue

As mentioned yesterday, Germany’s Scherer Sport dealership has a building full of Audi RS 6 Avants. According to a recent Facebook post, they claim to have over 40 RS 6 Avants available at a promotional price. Amongst them is this very striking color combination.

On the outside is Riviera Blue (rivierablau; non-metallic Uni; LP3G; Audi). Inside, this specification continues to strike a bold pose with light Diamond Silver Leather paired with Alaska Blue contrast stitching.

The last time Scherer Sport ran this sort of promotion, headlining with a gaggle of Audi R8s, it coincided with the end of production of Audi’s mid-engine supercar. We know the launch of the A6 replacement is imminent (Mach 4 via ooooIYKYK.com). Given the proximity of that reveal, it’s quite possible the RS 6 Avant is nearing its production end.

Get them while they’re hot. The C9 Audi RS 6 is expected to be a hybrid, which means added weight. Though the RS 6 Avant is no clubsport lightweight, we’re told the M5 Touring is over 400 lbs heavier.

Perhaps one of the more interesting items featured on Tailored Driver, this short wheelbase E38 generation 750i is equal parts enticing and terrifying. Want luxury? The BMW Individual Blue interior on this E38 has no shortage of it, from the Lay-Z-Boy style front buckets, to the center console mounted telephone, and the certainly very out of date Navigation/Cassette player combo. Love internal combustion? Great- twelve cylinders mean fuel will combust internally quite often. Sure, reliability will be questionable even with a running tab at your local BMW specialist, but it’ll be guaranteed to get a reaction out of even the most casual of observers.

Porsche’s Paint to Sample Voodoo Blue is quickly attaining frequent flyer status at Tailored Driver, and for good reason- the pale blue looks quite incredible, regardless of application. While somewhat wild to say, 2018 was already 7(!) years ago and just slightly before Paint to Sample became a nearly must-have option for new Porsche buyers. So while the color may be somewhat common, the application certainly is not. That nuance makes this 4-owner, 17,000 mile example just a bit more exciting.
