Color Check: Singer Classic Turbo in Azzurro La Plata

We’re always down for the latest Singer commission around these parts, and the car you see here certainly qualifies. Built to the firm’s Classic Turbo specification, this Porsche 911 reimagined by Singer stylistically builds on the classic G-body 80s 911 yet takes it to a whole other level of cool.

The paint color, a light blue not altogether far from Gulf Blue, is known as Azzurro La Plata. It features ghosted stripes to add to the sporting appeal. Several photos of the car were posted to their Facebook Page.

Inside, the cockpit is primarily onyx leather with Alcantara and houndstooth fabric on select surfaces including lightweight, carbon fiber track seats. Light blue accents continue on the inside, including powder blue seatbelts, lower cabin surfaces and portions of the instrumentation.

In the rear, a harness bar and cross brace includes Singer badge in brass.

It being a Singer, the car is based on a 964 even though it stylistically now resembles a G-body much more closely. It’s powered by a 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged intercooled flat six.

The ongoing success of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars is based upon an intimate understanding of the unique world in which its clients live, socialise and entertain. In this spirit, the marque delights in maintaining a gentle presence in the world’s luxury hotspots.

This week, Rolls-Royce Spectre is joining clients in celebrating the breathtaking floral art displayed in the streets and residence entryways in the heart of Chelsea, South-West London. In keeping with the flower-inspired theme and reflecting the brand’s enduring connection with nature, the Spectre is finished in Velvet Orchid – one of nature’s most captivating flowers, admired for its rich colour, velvety texture and luxurious appearance – and complemented by a delicate hand-painted Peony Pink Coachline.

Floral motifs have long inspired Rolls-Royce Bespoke commissions. Nature – and flowers in particular – provide a rich language of symbolism, sentiment and beauty. This Spectre follows some recent exceptional commissions inspired by the natural world, including the celebrated Phantom Cherry Blossom and Daisy Cullinan. These creations are not simply motor cars, but deeply personal artworks – each a reflection of the commissioning clients’ values, identity and lifestyle.

Twisted Gets in on Baja VW Remaster Action with TBug

More known for their Land Rover Defender remasters, UK firm Twisted has expanded their scope with the introduction of the T Bug. Why’d they do it? “Because it’s cool.”

    default

Built on a Volkswagen Beetle from the ’60s to the ’80s, Twisted does what the great remasters do by stripping it down, then builds it back. In this case, the chassis is sealed and strengthened, long-travel suspension is fitted… not to mention the iconic Baja bug bodywork.

Interestingly, they keep power on a level consistent with the original Baja Bug – double the original power, yet still “under 80 horses”. However, the driving experience and attention to quality are significantly augmented. The net effect is a markedly higher grade experience that’s still true to what it was.

Check out more information at Twisted.

Here’s an interesting long roof we’ve found on Bring a Trailer. The car is a BMW Individual 328i wagon from the E36 era. Special painted Atlantis Metallic over black leather, it sports the European specification M52 inline six-cylinder with five-speed manual transmission.

The car is a great specification, including left-hand-drive configuration. Even though it’s in the UK, it’s under a Polish registration. So, any American buyer will need to import it, but at least the steering wheel is on the proper side.

Fairly base spec, incredibly low miles, Paint to Sample color- this Macan is a bit of a head scratcher. While there is no denying Aetna Blue as a special color, the choices made (or not made) on this Tailored Driver have us wondering why not. Agate Grey partial leather is pretty middle of the road although it does work well here, and the standard 18″ rollers do little to help this Macan stand out from the crowd. Having covered just 13,000 miles in four years of service, there is certainly no shortage of potential here, though. Perhaps you can use depreciation to your advantage, because at $41,000, it sure leaves plenty of room in the budget to further Tailor this future daily driver.

The new Discovery Tempest and Gemini editions honour Discovery’s 35‑year legacy with subtle nods to the model’s history in their names, which also inspire their exclusive design details.

In addition to the new Tempest and Gemini editions, Discovery also offers fresh wheel options, enhanced equipment and a new range of curated accessory packs designed to make the most of everyday family adventures.

    DISCOVERY TEMPEST

The most luxurious, comfortable and highly‑specified Discovery ever produced, the new Tempest edition represents the pinnacle of the family. Tempest takes its name from the secret development launch programme for the second‑generation Discovery launched in 1998 – one of the brand’s most recognisable models. Discovery Tempest is available with a choice of three body colours, all exclusively with a Matte Protective Film for the first time ever on Discovery. Clients can choose from Charente Grey, Varesine Blue or Carpathian Grey paint with the Matte Protective Film.

A contrasting Petra Copper Gloss roof finish is standard – the first time this roof colour has been available on Discovery – with Narvik Gloss Black available as an option. This is complemented by a Petra Copper Gloss finish for exterior design details including the the wing vent, Discovery script and lower bumper inserts. The 22‑inch Diamond Turned Style 5124 alloy wheel design sports Petra Copper tinted lacquer and Gloss Black detailing – a new finish for Discovery and exclusive to Tempest.

The Tempest is further identified by unique badging for the B‑pillars, treadplates, puddle lamps and interior finishers. The spiral Tempest graphic represents power and movement. The cabin is enhanced with Shadow Aluminium detailing, and extended Ebony Windsor leather upholstery.

    DISCOVERY GEMINI

A thoroughly modern tribute to Discovery’s ingenious design and engineering, which has enabled joyful family adventures for more than 35 years, the Gemini edition takes its name from the codename given to the innovative, powerful and fuel efficient Tdi diesel engine that powered the original Discovery from 1989 and brought new levels of refinement to the powertrain. Discovery Gemini is available in six exterior colours, including Sedona Red which is a first for Discovery and unique to this edition, with a Narvik Gloss Black contrast roof. The Gloss Black detailing extends to the lower body cladding and front wing vents – complemented by an Atlas Gloss grille surround and Discovery script.

A Gemini‑specific graphic on the B‑pillar badges, treadplates and interior finishers also features, alongside new 21‑inch split‑seven‑spoke Style 7001 alloy wheels finished in Diamond Turned Silver. The twinned‑hexagon Gemini graphic reflects duality and togetherness, with a nod to the forms found on the Discovery grille.

The Gemini is perfect for family adventures with a host of extra comfort and convenience features, including a cooler compartment located between the front seats, Click & Go media holders for rear seat occupants and three‑zone climate control to keep the whole family at the right temperature.

Both Tempest and Gemini models are available with the latest powerful and efficient Ingenium D350 diesel engine, with state‑of‑the‑art 48V Mild‑Hybrid Electric Vehicle (MHEV) technology and eight‑speed all‑wheel drive transmission. Developing 350PS and 700Nm of torque, the 3.0‑litre engine’s efficient mild‑hybrid technology harvests and stores energy generated during deceleration and redeploys it to assist acceleration, making it particularly suitable for towing up to 3,500kg.

    FURTHER ENHANCEMENTS

Across the rest of the line‑up, Discovery now features a number of specification enhancements designed to offer more choice and versatility. There are new wheel options, featuring a unique colour finish that helps elevate the exterior, providing the perfect combination of practicality, all‑terrain capability and visual appeal.

The five‑spoke 22‑inch Style 5124 wheel can now be specified with Dark Grey tinted lacquer and Gloss Black detailing, while the split‑five‑spoke 21‑inch Style 5123 in black is as an option on Dynamic SE.

The new Tempest and Gemini models join the existing trim line‑up of S, Dynamic SE, Dynamic HSE and the Metropolitan edition, which all now feature enhanced specifications, while the already generously equipped Dynamic HSE gets three‑zone climate control so the whole family remains cool, calm and entertained.

  • The New Mercedes-Maybach SL Monogram Series

The New Mercedes-Maybach SL Monogram Series

    • Sporty two-seater for the ultimate open-air experience
    • Exquisite aesthetics with two curated design concepts: Red Ambience and White Ambience
    • Excellent ride and acoustic comfort for a driving experience at Maybach level

Mercedes-Maybach is expanding its product portfolio with a fourth model – the new Mercedes‑Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series (combined energy consumption: 13.6 l/100 km; combined COemissions: 309 g/km; COclass: G)[1] is the sportiest model in the brand’s history to date. The open-top two-seater interprets the iconic silhouette of the SL in an extraordinary way. Athletic proportions merge with exquisite aesthetics and maximum comfort. The Mercedes‑Maybach SL opens up a whole new world of cruising in the open air. It combines a dynamic driving experience with everything that characterises a Mercedes‑Maybach: skilled craftsmanship, high-quality materials and exquisite design details. In line with the brand philosophy, it offers a holistic, sensual experience. The market launch in Europe has already begun with other markets to follow successively.

The Mercedes-Maybach SL is an extraordinary combination of beauty and sportiness. This is notably expressed by the two curated design concepts: “White Ambience” presents itself in a new interpretation of the typical Maybach two-colour paintwork with obsidian black metallic in the upper section of the vehicle and MANUFAKTUR opalite white magno in the lower section. In “Red Ambience,” obsidian black metallic contrasts elegantly with MANUFAKTUR garnet red metallic. Developed for the first time for the new Mercedes‑Maybach two-seater, this tinted clearcoat is characterised by its vibrant, rich colour and a special depth effect.

The interior conveys a special feeling of lightness and space. The extensive use of crystal white, sustainably tanned MANUFAKTUR Exclusive Nappa leather creates an airy, elegant ambience. It not only enhances the seats in their new, floral design but also the door panels, the centre console and the space behind the seats. This creates a generous feeling of roominess and, at the same time, the typical Maybach cocooning effect. The galvanised seat backrests and trim parts in silver chrome provide a glamorous contrast. The elaborate upholstery of the seat surface and backrest, typical of the brand, ensures maximum seating comfort. The seat side panels are lowered for easy entry and exit.

Individual expressiveness with over 50 MANUFAKTUR colours

In addition to the two curated colour concepts, more than 50 other MANUFAKTUR paint colours are available on request. The colour palette is inspired by the tones of precious stones, minerals or natural phenomena such as Côte d’Azur Blue, as well as current colour trends from fashion, architecture and design. This also includes newly interpreted classic hues from the historical paint archives of Mercedes‑Benz and Maybach.

Exterior design typical of the brand, with added sporty character

The open-top two-seater is the first Maybach model in which the brand-specific, chrome-finished radiator grille, with its fine vertical slats, has an A-shape contour. In typical sports-car fashion, it shifts the visual centre of gravity far downwards. The contour of the radiator grille is illuminated, as is the delicately integrated Maybach lettering. The front apron, with its horizontal air intakes and striking chrome trim, additionally emphasises the sporty character of the Maybach SL. The windscreen frame is also finished in gleaming chrome. The distinctive, characterful “face” is rounded off by a rose gold accent in the headlights and the dedicated bonnet with upright Mercedes star and a chrome-plated longitudinal fin.

The rear of the vehicle is characterised by the taillights featuring the Maybach logo. It has a brand-specific rear apron with chrome trim and a dedicated diffuser design. The brand-typical tailpipe trim, with a horizontal bar, rounds off the elegant appearance. Behind the seats, an aerodynamically designed double scoop reinforces the unique appearance. The chrome fin on the bonnet and the chrome insert in the side member trim give the two-seater an elegant touch. Added to this are the 21-inch forged wheels, which are available in a five-hole or multi-spoke design. This gives the two-seater an elegant and sporty side view, especially when the soft top is open. The acoustic-comfort soft top consists of a fabric in a light black colour with a discreetly integrated, anthracite-coloured Maybach pattern.

Bonnet with integrated Maybach pattern using the innovative PixelPaint process

To further enhance exclusivity, the bonnet in obsidian black metallic is available on request with an integrated Maybach pattern in graphite grey uni. The production of this printed bonnet is very complex and is partly carried out by hand. Each step of the process is subject to complex technical requirements and demands the highest precision in execution. First, the bonnet receives a base coat and an initial clear coat, which is then sanded by hand. It is then printed with the Maybach pattern using the new PixelPaint process. The bonnet is then coated twice more with clearcoat and sanded by hand until the final clearcoat finish is applied. The four coats of clear lacquer and three sanded coats give the Maybach pattern an extraordinary depth effect. Each layer of clear lacquer is sanded by hand, which takes several hours and requires precise craftsmanship.

The bonnet of the Mercedes‑Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series marks the premiere of the innovative and sustainable PixelPaint painting process at the Sindelfingen site. Inspired by an inkjet printer, this painting technology enables customised patterns and designs to be applied directly to the bodywork with incredible precision. The print head has more than 1,000 nozzles, each of which can be controlled individually. They can apply drops of paint at a microscopic size of 20 to 50 microns at a speed of over 1,000 drops per second. The extremely precise colour application means that no spray mist is produced. Labour-intensive masking and multiple passes for painting are no longer necessary, resulting in fewer waste products and lower emissions.

High acoustic comfort for relaxed driving pleasure

The highest standards also apply to driving and acoustic comfort. The Mercedes‑Maybach SL offers a unique driving experience that combines the tranquillity and power typical of the brand. Comprehensive insulation measures reduce road noise. Acoustic fleeces, aluminium butyl surfaces and acoustic foams are used, among other things. The sonorously restrained sound is also typical of Maybach. The noise-optimised exhaust system is equipped with the maximum possible proportion of insulating materials. The muffler makes the Mercedes‑Maybach SL even quieter thanks to innovative inlays made of recyclable fibreglass textile.

Excellent driving dynamics with eight-cylinder temperament and supreme comfort

With the Mercedes‑Maybach SL, every journey becomes an unforgettable experience. Agile and powerful, the open-top two-seater is ideally prepared for both relaxed cruising and sporty driving. It offers a high level of Maybach comfort combined with the sophisticated driving dynamics of an SL. The suspension, with its semi-active, hydraulic roll stabilisation, forms the basis. Hydraulic elements replace conventional mechanical anti-roll bars and compensate for body roll movements in fractions of a second. The system enables maximum ride comfort in different cornering radii, when travelling straight ahead and when driving over bumps. Maybach-specific valves for the damper hydraulics and softer steel springs also allow the suspension to respond even more sensitively. Unevenness is gently absorbed. New front-axle head bearings, the overall modified elastokinematics and comfortable Pirelli P Zero tyres also contribute to the high level of ride comfort.

The four driving programmes Comfort, Maybach, Sport and Individual support a wide range of driving experiences. The softened accelerator pedal characteristics in the Comfort and Maybach programmes make the response to driving commands smoother and more refined.

The combination of a 4.0‑litre biturbo engine with 430 kW (585 hp) output and smooth-shifting 9G‑TRONIC automatic transmission ensures dynamic driving pleasure at the Maybach level. Fully variable 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive and an electronically controlled rear-axle locking differential offer excellent traction even in slippery road conditions, thereby increasing driving safety. Standard rear-axle steering combines agility and stability for a manoeuvrable and safe driving experience. The Mercedes‑Maybach SL handles curves with impressive precision.

Exclusive collection from MAYBACH Icons of Luxury

To match the new Mercedes-Maybach SL Monogram Series, MAYBACH Icons of Luxury is offering a collection in boutiques as well as the online store. The design is inspired by the materials and colours of the open-top two-seater. The collection includes a leather jacket, sneakers, a scarf, a shopper bag and a dog carrier.

Founded by Miklós Kázmér in Budapest, Hungary, KAMM focuses solely on the 912 sports car produced between 1965-1969. Renowned for being the lightest of all the road-going 911/912s, but with a better balance than a typical 911, the 912 may not be an obvious choice for a restomod, but its slim, simple lines, outstanding handling and iconic 4-cylinder engine makes the 912 the perfect choice for a KAMM creation.

The KAMM 912c is an exquisitely engineered, beautifully built, modern take on the 60s sports car icon. In an age where electronics take over many of the driver inputs, the KAMM 912c offers something different in the world of restomods in that it maintains the charm of a 1960s racer, with sensitive updates, instead of trying to completely modernise the 912 driving experience.

KAMM improves on perfection, without compromise, building on existing greatness to create the KAMM 912c. Taking an original 912, KAMM engineers restore every donor car to perfection, providing the perfect basis for a bespoke creation. Steel is replaced with carbon, seamlessly blended without trace, ensuring flawless fit and finish.

KAMM engineers enhance the chassis, brakes suspension, wheels and tyres and replace all original elements with brand new, factory parts including lights, fixings, and rubbers.

When seeking out new Tailored Drivers for feature on this site, there are few better phrases than “Corporate Fleet Vehicle.” While some could dismiss that as a rare form of abuse by jaded OEM employees, we see it as the opportunity to get into something taken to new heights by those internal folks who had a chance to spec a vehicle without finance asking about take-rates and forcasting depreciation. This $141k sticker X5 M Competition is just that- fresh from 9,000 internal-use miles wearing the stunning Santorini Blue paired with Taruma Brown seats. Found currently at BMW of Ridgefield, Connecticut, we think this would be a great way to check the family hauler box in a hypothetical 3 car solution game.
