    Why we love it:

At the offices of Tailored Driver, we love to put ourselves in the shoes of our Market Find’s original Tailors and try to imagine how conversations went while curating and submitting each order. With this Paint to Sample Meteor Grey Metallic 991-generation GT3, we’d assume that a 997-generation GT3 owner walked into the Porsche dealer in Plano, TX after being told that the then-new 2018 model would be available with three pedals for what was assumed to be the last time. “Great!” they said, “Order it just like my 997 and let me know when to pick it up.” You see, Meteor Grey Metallic was a fairly common standard color during the 997 years if GT3, as were Carbon brakes and Leather seats with Race-Tex accents. In other words, this exact spec, minus the black wheels, massively updated tech, and the benefits a new generation present. If we’re right, and we think we may be, this is an extremely cool example of forward-dating a proven formula to achieve a surprisingly unique Tailored Driver.

EU Market Find: Red-on-Red 1974 Porsche 911 Carrera 2.7 MFI

    What: 1974 Porsche 911 Carrera 2.7 MFI

    Why we love it:

Nothing like a highly unique car in a highly unique build. In 1974, one year after producing the legendary 911 Carrera RS 2.7, Porsche introduced the 911 2.7 with mechanical fuel injection (MFI). And while it had gone to G-body construction including bigger and heavier bumpers, it made up for that with countermeasures such as lighter seats an aluminum arms in the rear suspension. All told, it weighed in at 1075 kg (2370 lbs) and was capable of 0-62 mph in 5.5 seconds… in 1974. Though they don’t command the premiums of the Carrera RS 2.7, there’s no question that 1974 911 Carrera MFI specimens are sought after. Now throw in a sensational build specification and you have something really special.

Having had just two owners, the first was an Italian show manufacturer and that’s likely the reason for the very unique specification. Color over like color is always an interesting choice, and this Peru Red over red example would be already very distinctive, though that’s made even more unique due to the presence of the 1974 Carrera sport fabric also seen here in red that is both very rare and appears to be very well kept.

Peru Red was not a Paint to Sample affair, but it was offered during the 1974 model year. For the casual observer, it might be hard to spot the differences from Peru red to more common Porsche reds such as Guards Red or Signal Red. Park it next to the others though and it’s immediately obvious that Peru Red has more of a brick or terra cotta quality to it.

  • Market Find: “The Denmark Commission” Singer Classic Study Porsche 911

Market Find: “The Denmark Commission” Singer Classic Study Porsche 911

What: 1990 Porsche 911 Reimagined by Singer – Classic Study “The Denmark Commission”
    Color: Rome Red Metallic
    VIN: WP0ZZZ96ZLS402183
    Mileage: 3,728 since Singer restoration
Price at Time of this Writing: $950,000
    CarFax: N/A
    Window Sticker: N/A
    Location: Culver City, CA
    Dealer listing: Link

    Why we love it:

In modern parlance, the “Classic Study” from Singer is effectively its original format. While in the earliest days of the Southern California-based Porsche reimagineer this was the Singer model, subsequent launches of the extreme DLS or more G-body inspired Turbo now mean the original F-body or so-called “longhood” inspired car is known as the “Classic Study”.

In the Classic Study, this may very well be the most iconic form for a Singer. It harks that initial era of the 911 in a remarkably elegant way. And should you spec it like this “Denmark Commission” in a color that harks original hues of that era (Rome Red Metallic in this case), while speccing the interior in something equally as simple as those late 60s / early 70s cars (like say… black leather), you get a car that looks legitimately of the period it is meant to hark. Sure, park it next to an original red F-body 911 S and the differences are clear, but we still love the idea of staying true to the roots and remaining understated with such an extravagant build.

As you may have guessed, the Denmark Commission was built for a Danish client, and completed in December of 2017. Over the years, Singer built 450 examples of the Classic Study before capping off the series with accepted orders ending in June 2022. The current American owner of the car purchased it in 2023.

It’s rare that a Singer Classic Study comes onto the market. This one has landed with RM Sotheby’s in their Private Sales division. Check out more photos and details via the car’s official listing.

    Why we love it:

If you’re fans of Spike’s Car Radio (Links: Apple, YouTube) as we are, then you probably know that “Plan Z” is vernacular for a car owned by multiple people (typically friends who trust each other not to leave groceries in the frunk). You probably also know that show hosts Spike Feresten and Paul Zuckerman are frequent Plan Z partners.

More recently, the two have hooked up with Porsche Clearwater and have been rotating the latest Zuffenhausen it-cars through their storage hangars at the Santa Monica airport. It seems like a winning combination, because Spike and Zuckerman regularly have access to Porsche’s latest and greatest, while their ability to concoct a pretty fantastic specification means Porsche Clearwater has a regular supply of most excellent builds with an entertaining provenance.

The latest in that line is this 2024 Porsche 911 GT 3 RS with Sonderwunsch touches, traded because their 911 S/T is inbound. Their movement on to the next one is someone else’s gain though, because this car is a choice build that they’ve spoken about regularly on the show.

There’s a lot to review and love when you check out the details of this car via the link above, but we’ve got our favorite details we’ll call out. For starters, they patterned the first 992 GT3 RS a.k.a. “Wingman” display car Porsche revealed at Monterey Car Week 2022. However, they swapped the white/green combo of Wingman for another blue for an iconic 911 Carrera RS 2.7 color scheme. They went for the bold strategy of comfort seats over shell seats, and notably went for the Weissach package, however painted the standard White paint over the carbon on the roof and hood for more of an understated look. That last move was done, according to Spike via the podcast, at the direct suggestion of Porsche’s GT Line Director Andreas Preuninger, which makes it all that much cooler.

Special thanks to Larry Wood of Porsche Clearwater for providing photos and details on the car. If you’re interested, contact him directly via the contact information next to the listing link listed above. Thanks for the tip Nish Pillai.

  • EU Market Find: Ex-Factory Porsche 993 Targa in Blue Turquoise plus MT6 in Belgium

EU Market Find: Ex-Factory Porsche 993 Targa in Blue Turquoise plus MT6 in Belgium

    What: 1996 Porsche 911 Targa
Color: Blue Turquoise (blautuerkis; non-metallic UNI; J1; Porsche)
    VIN: N/A
    Mileage: 131,000 km (81,400 miles)

    CarFax: N/A
    Window Sticker: N/A
    Location: Schoten, Belgium
    Dealer listing: Link

    Why we love it:
In the lexicon of air-cooled Porsche 911s, the 993 Targa is both obscure and hard to find. By the final air-cooled type 993 generation, Porsche had ditched the full-width open top with roll hoop-style design it had pioneered throughout F-body, G-body and 964 generations, replacing them with a more livable (and heavier) glass panorama-style panel that slide back underneath the rear window glass. It’s a design that would stick around through 996 and 997 generations. During the 993 generation, it wasn’t terribly popular, making it a rare find today. Now add a very rare paint color and you have a very unique find indeed.

The hue is Blue Turquoise, paired over Classic Grey (Code TT) leather for a beautiful appearance. It’s also got a manual 6-speed. Given most of the ones we’ve seen have Tiptronic automatic transmissions, we’d wager this makes it even more rare and desirable.

    What: 2024 Porsche 911 GT3 RS

    CarFax: N/A
    Window Sticker: N/A
    Location: Fort Worth, TX
    Dealer listing: Link

    Why we love it:

Sometimes the whole Gulf Racing thing can go a little overboard. It get’s done, and it get’s done a lot, but doesn’t always work… a little too ambitiously racey for a road car. The 911 GT3 RS though, it’s already got heavy racecar feel to it anyway, and those aerodynamics functional. So, spec in Gulf Blue with Weissach Package, orange stitching and orange graphics and fight the urge to logo it up and we’d argue this is one of the cooler livery-inspired 992 GT3 RS specifications we’ve seen.

The car is no mileage, and has a pretty massive markup. That is what it is. It’s an amazing spec. If you’re tired of waiting in line or not in line at all, and you really want a GT3 RS with some racing flair, it’s hard not to love this thing.

    Location: Johnson Creek, WI

    Why we love mention it:

Okay, here’s the deal. We don’t always love them all, but we also recognize that polarizing specifications are often a matter of taste… or maybe acquired taste. So while we’re greatly entertained by Instagram accounts like @worstspec on Instagram, we’re not going to go so far as to jeer something outright. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but we’ll use this as an opportunity to begin our Aquired Taste subsection. Check that for more polarizing builds, but let’s focus now on this seemingly Seussian 911 Targa 4S.

The exterior color in question is Porsche Birch Green, one of several neon greens in the Porsche color palette. That, in and of itself, isn’t necessarily polarizing. However, pair it with Bordeaux Red leather interior and it’s not just a green/red Christmas theme, but an eye searing green Christmas theme that more than casually harks The Grinch.

If you love it, and how could some not, we’re sharing it hopefully in time for a Yuletide P-car acquisition, great for any Whoville Cars & Coffee.

  • Market Find: Singer “UK 1” Porsche 911 Classic Study in RM Private Sale Listing

Market Find: Singer “UK 1” Porsche 911 Classic Study in RM Private Sale Listing

    What: 1990 Porsche 911
Color: Egg Yolk (non-metallic UNI; no code; Singer)
    VIN: WP0ZZZ96ZMS400589
    Mileage: 4,650
Price at Time of this Writing: £845,000 GBP Asking
    CarFax: N/A
    Window Sticker: N/A
    Location: London, UK
    Listing: Link

    Why we love it:

The cue for a Porsche 911 reimagined by Singer is measured in years, so for those seeking to own one and not hung up on creating their own commission, purchasing one off the pre-owned market is the most likely play. Granted, they don’t come up often, and when they do we tend to expect them in prestigious places like an RM Sotheby’s private listing.

That’s the case with the car you see here. Note the name of the commission, “UK 1”, which designates it as the first UK registered Singer. Are you surprised it’s right-hand drive? That should be obvious, but maybe adds to the cool.

Another cool note on this car is the history. Singer used this car for promotional activities, including display at the 2015 Goodwood Festival of Speed where it was driven up the hill by Chris Harris and Marino Franchitti. Noted automotive journalist (and 964 Carrera RS owner) Dickie Meaden also drove the car for a feature in the December 2015 issue of Evo Magazine for which they also shot a video (see above).

Since this is an early Singer commission, it’s fitted with a Cosworth-built 3.8-liter version of Porsche’s flat six. It’s also finished in Egg Yolk paint over a relatively subtle black leather interior with comfort seats, Becker stereo with navigation and a roll bar.

    Why we love it:

Paint to Sample offers an incredibly wide array of colors, yet somehow we really only ever see the same 15-20. So when a great vintage-inspired build like the one represented by this Tailored Driver shows up in our searches, it provides perhaps a bit more excitement than we’d care to admit. Porsche Paint to Sample Aubergine is decidedly a heritage play having been available on 70’s 911 models, and hounds tooth inserts on the seats and door cards do a nice job of continuing the theme. In all, we’d give it an A+ grade, and hope the next owner of this Tailored Driver actually uses it.

Market Find: 2018 Porsche Paint to Sample Viola Purple Metallic 911 GT3

    What: 2018 Porsche 911 GT3
Color: Paint to Sample Viola Purple Metallic (veilchenlilametallic; metallic UNI; W84; Porsche)
    VIN: WP0AC2A94JS176463

    Window Sticker: Link
    Location: Glen Cove, NY
    Dealer listing: Link

    Why we love it:

Not to be confused with the much darker Viola Metallic, Porsche’s Paint to Sample Viola Purple Metallic is a much more playful, vibrant flavor of the historically royal color. When paired with Porsche’s sporting GT3 variant of it’s iconic 911, Viola Purple Metallic represents a juxtaposition that proves its Tailor is not one to take themselves too seriously. On the inside, splashes of yellow deviate from Black leather and Race Tex, most predominantly in the form of seat belts, stitching, and headrest script. In all it’s a bold package that seems to just simply work.
