With so many 964 era Porsche 911s getting snapped up for bespoke builds from the likes of Singer, RWB and more, clean examples of coupes are becoming harder and harder to find. Make them later production years (1992-1994) when Porsche was on the ropes, low mileage or laden with exclusive paint or interior trim and you have something extra special. You have cars like this Marble Grey example found over at Ryan Friedman Motor Cars in Glen Cove, NY.
This is a one-owner Carrera 4 (all-wheel drive) example (VIN# WP0AB2969NS420563), with desirable 5-speed manual transmission and with just 38,149 miles logged. It’s the further specification from the factory though that really grabs our attention.
That Paint to Sample Marble Grey almost seems to harken more modern Porsche uber light grey colors like Chalk, Crayon or Fashion Grey. It’s reportedly the only car of its kind to leave the factory in this shade.
The original owner didn’t just stop at a unique paint color though. Subtle touches enrich the cabin, including matching Marble Grey piping around the black leather seats. It also gets additional leather trreatment on the doors, dashboard and center console, plus a wooden shift knob and e-brake handle that would have otherwise been leather as standard from the factory.
Ryan Friedman Motorcars shares the full build list, so we’ve included it here:
Featured equipment/factory-ordered options: L998 – paint to sample (Marble Grey); VD – black; C02 – US Standard Emissions; XC9 – Dark Rootwood Shift Knob; XD4 – Wheel caps with colored Porsche crest; XF6 – Leather covered panel of the center console (under handbrake lever); XF7 – Leather covered tray behind parking brake; X09 – Special center console; X32 – Dark Rootwood parking brake lever; 331 – Cassette-radio Becker Porsche CR-1; 383 – Sports seat, left, electrical height adjustment; 387 – Sports seat, right, electrical height adjustment; 454 – Automatic speed control; 494 Amplifier; 650 – Sun-moon-roof.

Personalization Allows Owners to Restore Their Preferred Body Style through Singer’s Classic Turbo Services
[source: Singer Vehicle Design]
Los Angeles, CA – Singer highlighted the extent of its collaboration with owners through a Family Portraitshowing four Porsche 911s reimagined to reflect individual preferences for coupe, slantnose coupe, targa and cabriolet cars.
Singer Founder and Executive Chairman, Rob Dickinson said:
“The 911 Turbo was launched fifty years ago. Since then it has been a poster child, autobahn hero and race winner, loved by drivers and enthusiasts around the world. We’re excited to be collaborating with owners to celebrate this icon of road and track and to wish the turbocharged 911 a very happy birthday.”
Every restoration begins with the owner’s Porsche 911. Singer’s services reflect the personalization requested by each owner as they reimagine their car around the Type 964 chassis. Only 25 allocations for slantnose coupe restorations were available, and all are spoken for.
Restored cars are powered by an evolution of their original Mezger flat-six engines. Twin turbochargers with variable turbine geometry and air-water intercooling boost output to 510HP. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission, with the help of traction control and electronic stability control developed with Bosch, and Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres. Every owner tailors the character of their car toward sports or grand touring-focused driving as they wish.

With preeminent Porsche reimagineer Singer now firmly into their “Turbo” era, we’ve been loving the fresh G-body Turbo-inspired take on the classic Porsche 911 totally rebuilt and reimagined by the California firm with an impeccable attention to detail. This time around, Singer confirms some of the spec on their social channels including “Oak Green” that appears to be consistent with the longtime dark metallic green made popular by Porsche.
Inside, the tailored spec continues to impress with primary trim in Bone, accented with Olive Green leather and velour over power seats.

The product of Singer’s painstaking effort is a Porsche 911 restored and reimagined by Singer. Out of respect for Porsche, and to respect Porsche’s trademark rights, this incredible machine should never under any circumstances be referred to or described as a “Singer,” “Singer 911,” “Singer Porsche 911” or a “Porsche Singer 911,” or in any other manner that suggests that it is anything but a Porsche 911 that has been restored and reimagined by Singer.

Los Angeles, CA – Singer is a California-based luxury specialist that restores air-cooled Porsche 911s in collaboration with their owners. In response to requests from clients, Singer has evolved their DLS services to incorporate turbocharging (DLS Turbo).
A celebration of turbocharged endurance racers
DLS Turbo restoration services are imagined with each owner to celebrate the victorious 934/5 endurance racers of the 1970s. In the year that Singer is going racing with the latest turbocharged Porsche endurance racecar, the Type 963, this celebration of racing DNA links past and present.
The Porsche 911 began as a naturally aspirated car, undergoing careful development over the years to optimize road and track performance. Beginning in the mid-1970s, the turbocharged 911 emerged and underwent a similar evolution. In 1977 this led to a racing variant of the 911, known as the Type 934/5, which dominated the SCCA Trans American series, winning 6 of the 8 races and the championship.
Rob Dickinson, Executive Chairman and Founder, Singer Group, Inc. explains:
“I was 12 when my father’s friend showed us his Super 8 film of the 1977 Watkins Glen 6 Hours. As the familiar face of a Porsche 911 morphed into impossibly boxed hips, gaping intakes, and a giant double-planed rear wing, I can still remember the shock and the realization that this was the other life of the 911 – the racing car. Since Singer began, I’ve wanted to return to that moment, collaborate with our clients and celebrate that car – the 934/5.”
The Restoration Process
The process begins when the owner of a Type 964 Porsche 911 sends their car to Singer with the request to carry out a personalized restoration. Originally manufactured by Porsche between 1989 and 1994, these sports cars have been enjoyed for thirty years. Really enjoyed.
The owner’s car is carefully disassembled. The interior is removed, as is the exterior bodywork and all mechanical components, until the steel monocoque (chassis) is revealed. The chassis is painstakingly assessed, cleaned, strengthened, and prepared so that it is in optimal condition for the next stages of the restoration.
Body restoration
Modified carbon fiber bodywork is used to reduce weight and increase stiffness.
Aerodynamics
The shape of the carbon fiber bodywork is influenced by computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis – to optimize aerodynamic performance. A central front intake and hood vent optimize cooling performance, while rear fender intakes and NACA ducts aid brake and turbocharger cooling.
Some owners prefer their restoration be track-focused, while others prefer a road-focused restoration.
Track-focused owner
The car in Blood Orange has been specified by its owner to emphasize track performance, featuring a high-downforce rear wing with adjustable upper element and a track-oriented front fascia with larger splitter.
Road-focused owner
The car in Moet Blanc has been specified by its owner to be road-focused, including an aero-optimized rear ducktail spoiler and road-oriented front fascia which reduce drag.
Owners may request that their Type 964 is modified to accept both aero configurations. The front fascia and rear decklid assembly can be removed and switched, allowing ultimate personalization and freedom of choice for each owner.
Engine Development
As with all Singer’s restoration and modification services, the engine from the owner’s Type 964 Porsche 911, is the starting point. The engine is disassembled down to the engine block before being restored using high performance components and modifications to optimize performance.
The unique, 3.8L, 4-valves per cylinder flat-six uses twin turbochargers, with electric wastegates, air-to-water intercooling and a horizontally mounted, electrically powered fan. This evolution of the engine developed for DLS restorations enables power outputs over 700 HP at more than 9000 rpm.
Tailored Driving Experience
At the direction of the car‘s owner, Singer tailors the character of each restoration individually.
A 6-speed manual transmission sends power to the rear wheels. Track-oriented suspension and bespoke dampers with remote adjustment are among the details that may be considered. Powerful carbon ceramic discs and lightweight, monobloc calipers for both road and track use are installed. Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 or Cup 2R tires are mounted on lightweight 19” (front) and 20” (rear) forged magnesium, centerlock wheels.
The restoration and modification services enable owners to personalize the exterior and interior presentation of their car according to their personal preferences, through bespoke paint, leather, and material finishes.
Further Comments:
Notes Rob Dickinson: “The results of turbocharging our advanced 4-valve, high-revving DLS engine have been quite spectacular and combining it with all we have learned about lightweighting and vehicle dynamics has provided the perfect canvas to honor the Type 934/5 and its vital role in the genesis of the 911 as a racing car.”
Notes Mazen Fawaz, Chief Executive Officer, Singer Group, Inc.: “Our DLS services heralded a new era at Singer and facilitated enormous maturation of our operations in California and the United Kingdom. We’ve collaborated with some of the most famous names in the automotive world, including Bosch and Michelin as we continue our mission to set ourselves ever higher standards. We will continue to serve our creative and passionate client base with exciting new ideas like DLS Turbo.”
Price and Availability
Each restoration is unique. Every owner is able to share their personal preferences and requirements for bespoke engineering as part of the process of working with Singer to personalize their own 911.
Prices for Singer’s restoration services are dependent on the requests by each car’s owner. A limited number of restorations will be commissioned.
In public
For those keen to see an example of the possible results of the restoration and modification services in person, please plan to attend Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK from 13-16 July, 2023, or the Monterey Peninsula in Northern California for Car Week in August 2023.

In response to requests from owners, these latest restoration services enable the results of the company’s Turbo Study to be applied to the cabriolet body style of the Type 964. Singer’s exploration of forced induction continues in celebration of the iconic Porsche 930 Turbo and the open-top driving experience.
The Turbo Study represents the next generation of services from Singer and encompasses:
Collaboration with owners on the first road-going restorations to feature forced-induction
Highly capable grand-touring and sports performance for both coupe and cabriolet
The iconic turbo body, whale tail spoiler and shark fin – reimagined
A balance of luxury and sporting character tailored by each owner for their car
Each restoration begins with a Type 964 Porsche 911 Cabriolet.
Notes Rob Dickinson, Founder and Executive Chairman, Singer Group Inc. “The first Porsche, the Sport 356/1 known as “Number 1”, was a cabriolet, and high-performance, open-roof glamour has been part of the story ever since. I’ve long wanted to celebrate that part of Porsche heritage at Singer and doing so as part of our recently announced Turbo Study seems a perfect place to start. Our goal with the Turbo Study is to distill the awesome thrill of Porsche’s first ‘supercar’ while reimagining its performance and refinement. We’re excited that owners can now choose to enjoy these traits with the roof down.”
Notes Mazen Fawaz, Chief Executive Officer, Singer Group Inc. “Singer’s growth as a luxury brand continues. Our new expanded facilities in California and the UK have enabled us to expand the team with world-class talent and respond to growing demand around the world. The team in the US is diligently focused on completing Classic Study restorations while, in the UK, our team is carefully executing each of the restorations enabled by the Dynamics and Lightweighting Study. The response to the Turbo Study from owners has been incredible and it’s very exciting to be able to extend our services to the cabriolet body style for the first time.

Summary Technical Specifications This newest restoration shows a Porsche 911 reimagined by Singer, specified by its owner using the results of the Turbo Study to reflect a personal vision. This owner has focused on a restoration of the cabriolet body style with a specification that includes:
Lightweight carbon fibre bodywork in Cadiz Red
3.8L twin turbocharged flat-six with air-to-water intercooling
510 HP
6-speed manual transmission
Rear-wheel drive and touring-focused suspension
Carbon-ceramic braking system
Electrically adjustable sports seats in Black with Tartan seat centres
Wood accents in Black Forest – Red
Automatic fabric hood
Air-conditioning and inductive phone charging
Engine As with all Singer’s restoration services in collaboration with their clientele, the Turbo Study takes the Type 964 generation of air-cooled cars as its starting point. The study features a new evolution of the “Mezger” air-cooled flat-six. Now in 3.8L form, the engine features twin turbochargers with electric wastegates. Bespoke air to water intercoolers are mounted inside the intake plenums. The ‘shark fin’ on the rear fender is reimagined as an intake and supplies cold air to the engine bay to optimize combustion and cooling performance. In response to owners’ preferences, the study enables power outputs starting at 450 HP and rising to 510 HP.
Advanced materials A bespoke carbon fibre body maintains the careful balancing of iconic DNA with cutting-edge engineering and material science. While celebrating the iconic 930 Turbo, the bodywork is reimagined to optimize aesthetic and functional performance. As always, the use of carbon fibre allows reduced mass and enhanced stiffness, further sharpening dynamic responses in the manner that Singer’s clients have come to expect and enjoy.
Drive The results of the Turbo Study also reflect Singer’s habitual focus on constant optimization and technical development. The study draws on all-wheel-drive experience that has been developed in-house since the first AWD Classic Study restoration, undertaken in 2014. In recent years this experience has been brought together with research into turbocharging and high-performance ride and damping expertise.
Accordingly, in response to owners’ requests, both rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive restorations may be enabled by the Turbo Study. In both cases, an optimized six-speed manual transmission underlines the driver engagement for which Singer is renowned.
Performance The use of forced induction enables power outputs starting at 450 HP. Refinement is enhanced, with reduced noise levels and the ability to opt for more compliant damping and suspension performance. This allows owners to focus on long-range, high-speed touring capability if desired. The availability of turbocharged torque allows for effortless speed-matching from alpine pass to autobahn, together with deep reserves of overtaking ability.
A higher power output may also be specified by the owner. If a more overtly sporting focus is preferred, a sports exhaust system and suitable damping characteristics can be tailored as required.
The collaboration between Singer and owner enables all points in between, from refined grand touring to sports focus, to be accommodated for both coupe and cabriolet body styles. Immensely powerful, turbo-specific, brakes, ABS, and traction control sit in reserve for the moment they are needed. Carbon-ceramic discs are available if desired by the owner.
Price Prices for restorations enabled by the Turbo Study are dependent on the specification requested by the car’s owner. As always, clients are able to engage the special wishes department to discuss their personal requirements for further bespoke engineering, in collaboration with Singer.
Automotive Services Singer’s automotive services encompass both normally aspirated and turbocharged sports cars for the road.
The results of the Classic Study allow owners to pursue their personal vision for optimized, naturally aspirated, air-cooled 911 coupes and Targas. Order books for Classic Study services are full for the next several years and no new orders are currently being accepted. All Classic Study restoration are undertaken at Singer’s new facility in Torrance, California.
The results of the Dynamics and Lightweighting Study (DLS) allow owners to explore the ultra-high-performance capabilities of their naturally aspirated, air-cooled 911, incorporating technology born from the world of Formula 1. No more than 75 cars will be restored and order books are full. All DLS restorations are undertaken at Singer’s facility in Woodford, UK.
The results of the Turbo Study extend Singer’s services on behalf of owners into the world of turbocharging. Over the coming years, the definitive collection of iconic design will continue to grow.

Rob Dickinson, Founder and Executive Chairman, Singer Group Inc. “My first ever ride in a Porsche 911 as an 11-year-old in 1976 left me dry-mouthed and speechless – it was a black 930 Turbo with red tartan seats. Forty-five years on from that life-changing moment I’m excited to present the results of our study that aims to capture the awesome thrill of Porsche’s first ‘supercar’ while reimagining its performance and refinement and collaborating with owners to take both to new heights. I believe it’s a fitting tribute to a car that changed my life and many others.”
Summary Technical Specifications
The car in Wolf Blue presented here shows a Porsche 911 reimagined by Singer, specified by its owner using the results of the Turbo Study to reflect a personal vision. This owner has pursued a focus on high-performance, luxury grand touring capabilities, including:
Lightweight carbon fibre bodywork in Wolf Blue3.8L twin turbocharged, intercooled flat-six
Over 450 HP (power may be tailored to each owner’s specification)
6-speed manual transmissionRear-wheel-drive and touring-focused suspension
Carbon-ceramic braking systemInterior presented in Malibu Sand with Black Forest wood accentsElectrically adjustable, heated seats

Engine
As with all Singer’s restoration services in collaboration with owners of the Porsche 911, the Turbo Study takes the Type 964 generation of air-cooled cars as its starting point. The study features a new evolution of the “Mezger” air-cooled flat-six. Now in 3.8L form, the engine features twin turbochargers with electric wastegate. Bespoke air to water intercoolers are mounted inside the intake plenums. The ‘shark fin’ on the rear fender is reimagined as an intake and supplies cold air to the engine bay to optimize combustion and cooling performance. In response to owners’ preferences, the study enables power outputs starting at 450 HP.
Advanced materials
A bespoke carbon fibre body maintains the careful balancing of iconic DNA with cutting-edge engineering and material science. While inspired by the turbo cars of the mid-70s, the bodywork is reimagined to optimize aesthetic and functional performance. As always, the use of carbon fibre allows reduced mass and enhanced stiffness, further sharpening dynamic responses in the manner that Singer’s clients have come to expect and enjoy.
Drive
The results of the Turbo Study also reflect Singer’s habitual focus on constant optimization and technical development.
An owner may decide to specify the AWD configuration to enhance sure-footed deployment of power and torque in all seasons and surface conditions. The RWD configuration allows owners to pursue an alternative sporting focus, if preferred. In both cases, an optimized six-speed manual transmission underlines the driver engagement that Singer is renowned for.
Performance
The use of forced induction enables power outputs starting at 450 HP.
The collaboration between Singer and owner enables all points in between, from refined grand touring to sports focus, to be accommodated. Immensely powerful, turbo-specific, brakes, ABS, and traction control sit in reserve for the moment they are needed. Carbon-ceramic discs are available if desired by the owner.
Inside, the results of the Turbo Study enable owners to respond to the demands of all-season touring if they wish. Heated, electrically adjustable seats and cruise control are available for comfort during cold-climate driving and for convenience on high-speed road networks.
Price
Prices for restorations enabled by the Turbo Study are dependent on the specification requested by the car’s owner. As always, clients are able to engage the special wishes department to discuss their personal requirements for further bespoke engineering, in collaboration with Singer.

Singer’s automotive services now encompass both normally aspirated and turbocharged sports cars for the road. The results of the Classic Study allow owners to pursue their personal vision for optimized, air-cooled 911 coupes and Targas.
The results of the Dynamics and Lightweighting Study, allow owners to explore the ultra-high-performance capabilities of their air-cooled 911, incorporating technology born from the world of Formula 1.

Los Angeles, CA — Singer will show a client-specification Porsche 911, representing the results of its Dynamics and Lightweighting Study (DLS), for the first time in North America, at The Quail, during Monterey Car Week on Friday, August 13, 2021
DLS represents Singer’s exploration of the ultra-high-performance potential of the air-cooled Porsche 911, on behalf of their clients. All 75 restorations are sold. Operations for the Dynamics and Lightweighting Study are based in the UK.
Singer will also present the latest results of its restoration services from California, referred to as the Hollywood commission, in Bahama Yellow over Forest Green. This car is inspired by the 1969 911E, restored by Singer Founder, Rob Dickinson, in 2003. After being used as a daily driver, the reaction to Rob’s car, also in Bahama Yellow, led to the concept of offering restoration services to air-cooled 911 owners. As such the 1969 car epitomizes the genesis of Singer.
Together these two cars represent both Singer’s origins and its latest work on behalf of discerning owners and drivers.
Combining iconic design with cutting-edge engineering and material science, the two cars embody the ongoing Singer philosophy – ARelentless Pursuit of Excellence.
Singer’s Founder and Executive Chairman, Rob Dickinson notes: “The restoration of my 1969 car was an intensely personal project. I drove the hell out of the car everyday around the Hollywood Hills and kept getting stopped to ask if I’d sell it. My answer was always no. But the experience was the seed that led to the founding of Singer as a way to enable other owners to pursue their personal vision for the ultimate air-cooled 911.
We’ve followed that path ever since, and ultimately it led us to undertake the Dynamics and Lightweighting Study. Seeing the first client-specification DLS car, from our operations in the UK, back here in California is a significant milestone for us. Side-by-side with the latest completed restoration from our California facility is a very proud moment and the ultimate testament to the talents of our amazing teams on both sides of the Atlantic and our incredible clients.”
About the Dynamics & Lightweighting Study The Dynamics & Lightweighting Study originated with a request from Singer’s clients to further evolve restoration services for owners of the air-cooled 911. No more than 75 cars will be restored in the UK, each as a bespoke commission for its owner. The starting point is a Type 964 Porsche 911.
