Spoiler alert: this car is a respray. It was originally Grand Prix White over tan, meaning both the interior and exterior have experienced a color change. That said, it appears that no expense was likely spared in making it happen, while whomever did the work appears to have faithfully recreated the Porsche without taking liberties so as to make it look as if it could have been a period Paint to Sample. That’s both pretty cool and pretty rare.

We also like that it’s tone on tone. After having spent some years street parked in Manhattan, this car went in for a color change where the owner wanted the “creamiest” 964 ever. The color is period correct Apricot Beige, offered on the Porsche 928 and 911 from 1989-1990. And since beige wasn’t exactly in fashion in that period, the install rate was practically nonexistent. For the owner then, that made it near perfect for his needs – OEM, obscure and period correct.

While they were at it, they also redid the interior in a tone-on-tone match, replacing the factory tan leather with a lighter creamy beige leather. Some Alcantara was also used, which isn’t exactly period correct on a Porsche 964 but you’d likely need to be a super nerd to know that.

At $150K, this car is more expensive than the equivalent 1991 911 Carrera 2, though probably not far off from what a rare and well kept equivalent in paint to sample finish and Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur special interior. If these colors work for you or you’re seeking a 964-era 911 that’s super unique and that you won’t have to feel guilty logging miles driving then it’s probably worth the investment.

Despite the potential for being dismissed as simply ‘beige’ by onlookers, Porsche’s Geyser Grey Metallic is a pretty interesting color in the eyes of Tailored Driver. Most commonly seen on the 50th Anniversary 911, Geyser is an off-white with a fairly subtle metallic flake for some added dynamism. The 991-generation GT3 Touring is a home run in our books, but the aforementioned Geyser Grey Metallic paint and hounds tooth insert Carbon Buckets elevate this 911 to grand slam territory.

  • Rivian’s First Special Edition, the California Dune

Rivian’s First Special Edition, the California Dune

Electric SUV and pickup manufacturer Rivian has always made a nice product, though this EV startup has yet to get on the board when it comes to qualifying as tailored. Their handsome cabins boast smart design and their second-generation even has some plaid elements, but with no in-house tailor and no special editions we have yet to cover them on Tailored Driver. Then, today, they dropped a new limited edition package called California Dune. Here’s what we know.

The special edition is based on Rivian’s updated R1T Tri-Motor. The spec list includes nine drive modes, and photos reveal it may have some unique off-road drive mods unavailable in standard Rivians. Whether or not those go into future over-the-air updates remains to be seen, but for now they appear to be unique to this special edition.

The most notable element of the package is the color, also named California Dune. Rivian says it’s, “inspired by the shifting shades of windswept sands. It’s hard to tell from photos and it’s not confirmed on their website just yet, so we’re not positive whether this California Dune beige color is a metallic or non-metallic just yet.

Other cosmetic details on the outside include their “Darkout Package” that includes dark accents “all over the vehicle – from badging to skidplates”. We also see tow hooks, roof bars and maybe a few other pieces of trim.

The California Dune also sports its own 20-inch wheel design. This rally-looking alloy is available in Satin Graphite or color-matched to the body. These are part of the Dune’s All-Terrain Package that also features reinforced underbody shield and air compressor.

Inside, there’s also a unique interior treatment. Rivian calls it “high contrast”, with the same leather panel design as the standard Rivian, but uniquely utilizing their seat’s upper segmentation as a separate element by skinning it in dark leather along with their usual seat center stripe, seatbelts and more. The main parts of the seat and door panel segments are in a light beige Sandstone leather for high contrast. Dark Ash wood trim accents can be found on the dash and around the cabin, while discreet California Dune badge can be found on the right side of the dashboard’s wood trim. On the floor are unique Sandstone Chilewich mats. Also part of the package is the brand’s Sound + Vision package.

Finally, the California Dune also features some unique sand-ready gear. The dark cross-bars look like standard Rivian accessories in optional black finish. They’re paired with MAXTRAX Recovery Boards that’ll help you traverse soft sand dunes.

Rivian’s product website, already live, shows that the California Dune version of the R1S and R1T are available now for order with availability in one to six weeks.

    Why we love it:

It’s hard to explain exactly why, but beige in some instances is incredibly good. Long a metaphor for boring, beige and it’s variants are having an absolute moment, whether it’s Audi’s Siam Beige and Mocha Latte, or the Mercedes-Benz Manufaktur Sand Beige seen here. It’s a clear play to the G-wagen’s military and industrial heritage, both of which propelled sales for a few decades before the G became a shuttle for wealthy American urbanites. Perhaps Sand Beige is most fitting on this particular 4×4 squared variant, the most rough and ready of the Geländewagen lineup.

  • Sammy Hagar’s Cream LaFerrari Just Sells for $4.65M, Setting World Record

Sammy Hagar’s Cream LaFerrari Just Sells for $4.65M, Setting World Record

Former Van Halen front man and rocker in his own right Sammy Hagar just sold his unique Ferrari LaFerrari (VIN: ZFF76ZFA2F0212166) via Barrett Jackson’s Fall 2024 sale, setting a new world record price for this particular model of Ferrari. Notably, the car was custom built to Sammy’s specification in Cream over Cream.

Looking over the Hagar LaFerrari, we’re guessing he built it via the Ferrari Tailor-Made program where discerning clients get a wide spectrum of freedom as they specify exterior color(s), interior color(s) and other details within the specification.

We’re a little confused on the final price. The Barrett-Jackson social media post (below) lists it as $4.25 million, though the Barrett-Jackson Fall Sale results on their website (HERE) list the price as $4.675M.

In this case, the colors of the Hagar LaFerrari listed by Barrett Jackson are simply Cream exterior and Cream interior. Sammy reportedly chose the combination to match the color of a 1960s Ferrari he saw pictured on the wall at Ferrari’s Maranello factory during his visit in 2014 presumably to order this car. The color combination also contrasts beautifully with carbon fiber and black accents.

Also included with the car is a special replica model that was given to Hagar as a gift by Ferrari, a book of the build process and plaque signed by Hagar from when the car was displayed at The Quail during the 2016 Monterey Car Week.

“I’m so excited that my LaFerrari, the most beautiful one on the planet, is headed back to Scottsdale this fall,” said Hagar in a Barrett-Jackson Press Release. “This car has a new high-voltage battery straight from the factory, so it’s even better than the original. It’s going to be an extra-rocking time because it’s crossing the block on Oct. 12, the day before my birthday. In fact, the winning bidder had better bring a passport, because I’m taking you to Cabo to help celebrate my birthday on October 13. This is going to be a wild ride and I can’t wait to see everyone there.”

  • Market Find: Audi exclusive R8 V10 RWD in Siam Beige

Market Find: Audi exclusive R8 V10 RWD in Siam Beige

If you want to make a paint color forgettable, call it “beige” and make it a launch color on your first EV. That’s exactly what Audi did with the paint color you see here. Dubbed “Siam Beige” it debuted on Ingolstadt’s first e-tron. And while debatably it may very well have been the best-looking paint color offered on the e-tron, product managers shared with us at the time that it had the lowest install rate of any color sold standard on that car.

Why? It was called “beige”. That doesn’t exactly spell out excitement. Even still, we’d argue Siam Beige should get more love than it does. If you’re a fan of subtle tonal colors like Porsche’s Chalk, Crayon or Fashion Grey, then Audi exclusive’s Siam Beige is worth a second look. Alas, when it comes to client-chosen Audi exclusive colors, it often gets overlooked just as it did in the original e-tron’s color guide.

So, when we see car’s like this, we’re reminded why we love it so much. The car you see here is a MY2021 Audi R8 V10 RWD that’s part of the Audi Certified Pre-Owned inventory at Audi Melbourne… (Florida, not Australia).

While we wish Audi Melbourne would have closed the ajar frunk on the R8 for their photos, we applaud them for listing the color in the ad listing. The latter is especially helpful on a color like this shot in a showroom where it can be mistaken for a silver or other grey, leaving it nearly impossible to identify without the aid of the individual who used care filling out the listing. Hat tip to them then.

We find a car as in-your-face as an R8 often looks great in an understated yet handsome tone. Siam Beige fits the bill just fine, and we applaud the original owner for building it to that spec. Should you wish to be the next owner, check it out at Audi Melbourne.

    Why we love it:

Red Ferraris may not be dime-a-dozen, but they’re kind always expected. So, when you have an owner spec the car in something entirely less obvious, you’ve always got a winner. Take for example this 1999 550 Maranello in rare Grigio Ingrid Metallic, a platinum silver that isn’t even your typical silver. That’s paired with Bordeaux and Crema leather with optional Crema piping for one very lavish cabin.

Worth also noting is that it’s got a gated manual, and Broad Arrow reports a clean CarFax. If you happen to be out at Monterey Car Week, swing by the Jet Center and check out this very tailored 90s-era GT.

Expedition Motor Company Returns to G-Wagen Roots with Sahara Beige Wolf

EMC’s All-New 1993 250GD Combines Classic Geländewagen Military-Grade Durability with the Elegance of a Modern Luxury SUV

    [source: Expedition Motor Compay]

FRENCHTOWN, NEW JERSEY – The first-ever Geländewagen prototypes were designed by Mercedes-Benz in the 1970’s with the intention of creating a rugged, capable, and user-friendly all-wheel-drive vehicle that could navigate any terrain for military purposes. In an effort to ensure that these vehicles would perform reliably in even the most dire of circumstances, the first G-Wagen prototypes were tested under extreme conditions in locations such as the Sahara Desert and Arctic Circle. In 1978, the developers of the G-Class performed extensive test drives with the prototypes in the imposing dunes of the Sahara Desert, forever linking the legendary sand-covered desertscape with the most iconic off-road utility vehicle ever designed. In homage to those inaugural G-Wagen prototypes and to showcase the versatility of this world-class, go-anywhere utility vehicle, Expedition Motor Company is proud to reveal the brand-new Sahara Wolf, built off of a 1993 250GD originally used in the military.

“For this Sahara Wolf, we went back to the roots of the Geländewagen and the extensive testing those prototype vehicles underwent in the dunes of the Sahara Desert, in particular,” comments Alex Levin, Founder of Expedition Motor Company. “In addition to that same reliability and off-road prowess inherent in the original prototype vehicles, EMC has also implemented an array of in-house developed components to modernize the ride quality and overall driving experience.”

EMC’s reimagined Sahara Beige (saharabeige; 255; non-metallic; Mercedes-Benz) 1993 250GD Sahara Wolf retains the stout OM602 2.5L 5-cylinder diesel engine paired with a completely rebuilt 711.117 5-speed manual transmission. Each EMC Wolf undergoes a meticulous 100-point restoration process to ensure dependable and consistent performance from every part on their builds. From applying anti-corrosive treatments to incorporating a proprietary suspension system, no detail is too small to ensure this EMC Wolf will be enjoyed for decades to come.

Designed as a convertible with a soft top included at purchase, EMC’s Sahara Wolf can thrive in any weather conditions. Built with versatility in mind, this completely rebuilt 250GD feels equally at home cruising in a sunny beach town or tackling inclement weather. Other noteworthy exterior additions include a custom-built EMC Bullbar, 3-inch LED Pod Lights for enhanced visibility off-road, a Warn Winch, and an EMC Snorkel Kit.

On the interior, EMC expertly paired an elephant gray colorway to perfectly contrast the Sahara Wolf’s sand-like exterior. The New Jersey based G-Wagen specialists further modernized this 90s-era utility truck with a Harman Kardon Infinity sound system, sound proofing, Wireless Apple CarPlay and a full array of creature comforts including air conditioning, heat, as well as front and rear heated seats. Priced at $180,450 and available immediately for interested customers, the Sahara Wolf is EMC’s latest example of masterful craftsmanship paired with an inherent understanding of automotive design.

“There is no other vehicle on the planet that pairs military-grade performance with luxury as well as the G-Wagen does. After years of military service, we obtained this 1993 250GD and repurposed it into a luxurious custom-built SUV following more than 2,300 hours of restoration work,” continues Levin. “We own the largest collection of G-Wagens in the world today, and I consider EMC to be the leading authority in G-Wagen restoration. EMC is able to customize these vehicles to meet customer preferences while maintaining the utmost standards for build quality.”

London, UK – INEOS Automotive has launched its first limited edition, the Grenadier 1924, to celebrate the first 100 years of iconic clothing brand Belstaff. Available globally from the 26th June 2024, only 1,924 of the vehicles will be produced and each will carry a unique limited edition number and distinctive Belstaff centenary badging.

Since its launch the Grenadier has partnered with the Belstaff brand in offering two feature packages based on iconic Belstaff jackets: the Trialmaster and Fieldmaster, but this limited edition takes further style cues from the enduring clothing brand. The Grenadier 1924 will be immediately identifiable by its bold contrasting colour palette of Magic Mushroom and Inky Black, exclusive gloss black diamond-cut 17-inch two-tone alloy wheels and a dechromed black grille trim with front and rear skid plates in dark grey.

Based on the flagship Fieldmaster package, the Grenadier 1924 has a dark green finish on the dashboard, centre stack, overhead console, switchgear and door cards, as well as a black saddle leather trim on the steering wheel, handbrake grip and passenger grab handle, complemented by dark grey headlining.

Both part of the INEOS portfolio, Belstaff and INEOS Automotive share the same philosophy of producing authentic, high-quality products that are designed and engineered to last. The Grenadier 1924 will be shown for the first time to the public at a centenary event between 24th – 28th May in Stoke-on-Trent, the city where Belstaff was born.

Taking over one of the city’s famed potteries, Belstaff will present an immersive brand experience, including a display of rare pieces sourced from around the globe. The weekend will also include talks, screenings and workshops, and will be open to members of the public, as well as invited VIP guests, collectors and members of the Belstaff community, past and present.

The Grenadier 1924 will be available to order from ineosgrenadier.com and all authorised INEOS retailers in all global INEOS Automotive sales markets from 26th June 2024.

    About INEOS Grenadier
In 2017, INEOS Chairman Jim Ratcliffe, a car enthusiast and experienced adventurer, identified a gap in the market for an uncompromising 4X4 engineered for modern day compliance and reliability. INEOS Automotive Limited was formed and a senior team of automotive professionals assembled to bring the vision to reality with a fresh perspective of 4X4 development and manufacturing.

In 2022 the INEOS Grenadier was launched: a truly global 4X4 built from the ground up that combines rugged British spirit and design with German engineering rigour. The Grenadier provides best-in-class off-road capability, durability, and reliability with the modern comfort and refinement customers expect wherever they are in the world. In 2023 a double-cab pick-up variant of the Grenadier was launched called the Quartermaster, and in February 2024 a third vehicle line called the INEOS Fusilier was unveiled which will offer two powertrain options to meet global consumer needs: an all-electric and a range-extender electric.

INEOS Automotive is a subsidiary of INEOS, a leading manufacturer of petrochemicals, speciality chemicals and oil products. It employs 26,000 people across 36 businesses, with a production network spanning 194 sites in 29 countries.
