    Why we love it:

F1 aficionados will tell you that Michael Schumacher left Benetton where he’d just logged his second (in a row) of seven career championships, relocating to a struggling Scuderia Ferrari in 1996. No doubt Maranello was ecstatic to have him, which is the timeframe that the very special F355 GTS you see here was produced.

In period, the F355 was Ferrari’s newest model, which made the car a natural for their star new driver’s daily. Granted, this was Michael Schumacher, so this wasn’t your average Rosso Corsa over black leather F355. For Ferrari’s star new driver, this GTS was built in stunning Blu Le Mans metallic over Pelle Crema (A 3997) leather. The F355 was said to have been configured personally by Schumacher, who also made sure to spec in a 6-speed manual.

The car has been in the same ownership for the last 20 years. Check out the full description by RM Sotheby’s below, as well as with even more photos via the link above.

By 1995, it was clear to everyone in Formula 1 that Michael Schumacher was a generational talent, and perhaps a driver the likes of which the sport had never seen. After winning his maiden championship with Benetton in 1994, in a car that many believed to be undeserving of the championship itself, he followed up with a repeat championship in 1995. Nineteen ninety-six would be different, and Schumacher would be lured away from Benetton to the team every racing driver wanted to race for: Ferrari.

Going into 1996, it was only fair that Ferrari gave their new driver a road car of his own to use and enjoy as he saw fit; the very F355 GTS offered here, allegedly the first Ferrari Michael Schumacher used whilst driving for the Scuderia. Introduced in 1995, it was the newest model in Ferrari’s lineup, a perfect fit for the team’s newest driver.

Built in early 1996, Schumacher’s F355 GTS is beautifully finished in Blu Le Mans (516/C) with a painted roof over Pella Crema (A 3997) leather, a stark contrast to the fantastic V-10 powered cars painted Rosso Corsa that he drove on circuits around the world. Said to have been configured personally by Schumacher, perhaps the car’s most important feature was its traditional six-speed manual gearbox, rather than the optional Formula 1-style automated manual, offering the two-time world champion a change of pace from his day job.

The car’s service book notes that it was delivered to Weber Management GmbH (the company of Michael Schumacher’s manager, Willi Weber) on 30 April 1996, and was delivered via Ferrari Deutschland GmbH in Wiesbaden. This would have been just two days after the European Grand Prix at the Nürburgring, where Schumacher finished second.

It appears that the car was used by Schumacher at his residence in Monaco, as the car received its first service at Monaco Motors, the official Ferrari dealership in Monaco, on 5 May 1996, having already covered 1,639 km, and just in time for him to have present during that year’s Monaco Grand Prix. A letter on file from Monaco Motors, the Ferrari service centre for Monaco, confirms that the GTS belonged to Schumacher and was serviced at their facility for him until September 1997. An undated German newspaper clipping, on file in the historical documents, shows Schumacher driving the car in Monaco. Although it is not known how long Weber Management owned the F355 GTS nor how long it was used by Schumacher, the car came into the ownership of Pierre Valentin of Mougins, France in May of 2002 and later Christopher Allen of Vallauris.

The F355 GTS was acquired by the current owner at auction in 2004 during that year’s Monaco Historic Grand Prix where it was being sold as Schumacher’s former personal vehicle. The current owner has very much used and enjoyed the car as its manufacturers intended. Believed to be the car’s third owner after Weber Management, he always had a soft spot for the F355 and purchased it due to its beautiful specifications and fascinating Schumacher history. Prior to the current owner’s acquisition, the back of the driver’s seat was signed by Schumacher, and upon his purchase the car was supplied by a letter from Monaco Motors, the official Ferrari dealership in Monaco, confirming that the car was serviced by them whilst in Schumacher’s care in September of 1997.

According to the consignor, in his capacity as a motoring journalist following Formula 1 during the 2012 Belgian Grand Prix, he had the opportunity to approach Michael Schumacher when he was driving for Mercedes-AMG and asked him about his old F355 GTS. To his surprise, Schumacher instantly remembered the car when shown a photo, remarking that he was happy it found a new home with a true enthusiast.

Not afraid to enjoy his new F355 GTS to the fullest, the car was driven straight home to Belgium from Monaco when purchased and has been used regularly by him, being driven simply for fun or to various car events in his native Belgium. It has been featured in three different magazine articles whilst in its current ownership: the November 2006 issue of Forza magazine, the March 2013 issue of the German magazine Ferrari World, and the June 2021 issue of Auto Trends Classic magazine, which was published in both Dutch and French. In 2017, the car won Best of Show at Spa Italia in Belgium. Minichamps even made a series of 1:43 scale models of this car in a display with Michael Schumacher as the background. Having been driven approximately 21,000 km prior to his purchase, the car is showing just under 47,500 km from new at the time of cataloguing.

The car was granted Ferrari Classiche certification in 2020, confirming that it retains its original chassis, gearbox, bodywork, and is finished in its original colour combination. The Classiche certification also confirms that the car is no longer fitted with its original engine, but one of the correct type. Rumour has it that the car was equipped with an up-rated engine when delivered new to Michael Schumacher, but this has yet to be proven conclusively. The car was fitted with the current engine prior to the consignor’s purchase in 2004.

Throughout its current ownership, the car has always been serviced by authorized Ferrari service centres and serviced as advised at regular intervals. Numerous invoices from its current ownership are on file, as well as invoices from Monaco Motors in 2002 and 2004 prior to its acquisition by the consignor. The F355 GTS’ last major service was carried out by F.M.A Ferrari in September 2024 and included fitting a new windscreen, new rear brake pads, timing belts, spark plugs, a new battery, and restoration of the dashboard.

Unquestionably one of the greatest racing drivers in any discipline, Michael Schumacher heralded in a new age of dominance for Scuderia Ferrari in F1, returning the team to the top step of the podium in both the constructors’ and drivers’ championships. Likewise, the F355 is considered by many to be a watershed moment in Ferrari’s modern history, a truly fabulous driver’s car worthy of the Cavallino Rampante.

Even when not considering its Schumacher connection, this is a fabulous example of one of Ferrari’s most desirable mid-engined sports cars, finished in a seldom-seen colour scheme, in the rare and desirable GTS body style, and equipped with the must-have option of a six-speed manual gearbox. Schumacher’s connection with the car only adds to its allure, and needless to say, this is an opportunity not to be missed.

    Why we love it:

A true classic that made its debut on Porsche’s 356, Aetna Blue (or Etna Blue) is equal parts pastel and vibrant. Decidedly darker than Gulf Blue, Etna gives Tailors the opportunity to achieve a result that stands out in a tasteful way while still inspiring conversation. Per Rennbow, the color has seen a resurgence in popularity as of late and we can absolutely see why- the heritage color fits impeccably with color trends of the past few years. Of note, Aetna appears quite similar to Cavalry Blue, which Toyota used on their TRD PRO trim 4Runner back in 2018.

    Why we love it:

The 997.2 Turbo S is, in most cases, a Porsche model which wears the ‘good value’ for money badge proudly. Enthusiasts have overlooked the shocking performance due to a lack of engagement from the PDK-only transmission, and as such the 997 Turbo S can often be had for a song- even more so should it’s roof be made of fabric rather than metal. This Tailored Driver is not one of those ‘value’ examples, but when it comes to spec, this is incredibly enticing. Paint to Sample Mexico Blue was a bold choice in 2011, but it works, especially when juxtaposed with Yellow brake calipers and silver center lock wheels. All of this is to say there’s plenty of ‘value’ in this blue chip Turbo S even if the price is a bit high compared to others in market. We think when appreciation for this variant hits, it’ll hit incredibly hard.

    Why we love it:

Say it with us- BMW Individual Aegean Blue Metallic over Cream Nappa Leather. In 1997 this particular Tailored Driver was the choice of an M3 connoisseur, choosing the classiest of color combinations at their dealer and achieving a jaw-dropping finished product. Understandably the former custodians of this car loved looking at it, but it seems they liked looking more than spending time behind the wheel as the car has covered just 59,000km in it’s 28 years of existence.

This groundbreaking technology, developed in collaboration with chiropractors, uses algorithms to make 177 micro adjustments across six independent pressure zones over a three-hour period, ensuring optimal comfort and minimizing fatigue during long journeys. Reflecting the serenity and refinement of the yachting lifestyle, the Bentayga EWB Azure Riviera Collection is a testament to Bentley’s commitment to artistry and innovation.

The Bentayga EWB Azure Riviera Collection offers a unique bespoke environment with an interior that includes Linen as main hide and Brunel as secondary hide with Autumn accents. A special Riviera Collection ‘knot’ embroidery on the headrest and “Azure” embroidery on the seat backs in Autumn accents underpin the collection’s attention to detail and exclusivity.

Accompanying this extraordinary model is the new Continental GTC, finished in a stunning Bronze exterior complemented by granite-coloured brightware and striking 22” ten-spoke wheels in a grey-painted and bright-machined finish. With an interior in Cumbrian Green leather, Camel accents and detailed with contrast stitching. Redefining the ultimate blend of supercar performance, handcrafted luxury and everyday usability. The performance of the powertrain is matched by a new chassis system, with new two-chamber air springs paired with new dual-valve dampers, along with Bentley Dynamic Ride (48V active anti-roll control), eLSD and torque vectoring. The new Ultra Performance Hybrid powertrain delivers a revolutionary blend of extreme performance and effortless electric luxury, delivering an unforgettable driving experience.

The performance of the Continental GTC Speed is breath-taking for an open-air Grand Tourer. With 782 PS and 1000 Nm it takes 3.4 seconds from 0-100 km/h while delivering emissions of 29 g/km of CO2 and an electric range of 81 km on the WLTP drive cycle. The Convertible features Bentley’s seven-bow fabric roof system available in a range of seven exterior colours (including tweed) and deployable in 19 seconds at speeds up to 48 km/h.

Color Focus: BMW Estoril Blue – 335

    CODE:  335

    TYPE: Metallic

    CONTENT ARCHIVE: BMW Estoril Blue

    SUMMARY:

Introduced in 1992 on the E36 M3, Estoril Blue (estorilblau; metallic; 335; BMW) has become one of the more memorable rad-era colors to come from BMW M. BMW shares that the color was inspired by the blues of Portugal where the Estoril racing circuit calls home. Whether it’s the cool blue surf of the Atlantic Ocean off the Portuguese coast or the almost always-clear skies overhead, the reference to Estoril definitely sticks. That BMW Motorsport in both two and four-wheeled forms has plenty of history with the Portuguese track doesn’t hurt either.

    Why we love it:

When it rains, it pours. Just a few days ago, we featured a different Audi exclusive Nogaro Blue RS 7, and here we have another. Albeit not a Performance model like our prior post, this RS 7 packs plenty of performance courtesy of the deep aftermarket support that brands like Audi benefit from. All told, this RS 7 is said to have about 800 horsepower, which is certainly more than enough to do just about anything- legal or not. Other highlights include HRE Wheels, an H&R lowering module, software from APR, and full paint protection film. So whether it’s this particular RS 7 or the stock example featured previously, a Tailored RS 7 in Nogaro has never been more attainable.

    Why we love it:

The Audi S4 is a damn fine sports sedan, and we feel it represents a fairly good value in the used car market- even when Audi exclusive paint has been applied. What’s more compelling for this particular example is that of the roughly 80 pre-approved Audi exclusive hues available to customers in 2018, Graphite Blue Metallic was not one of them. The original Tailor at Walter’s Audi in Riverside, CA who spec’d this car worked with Audi exclusive directly to get this Porsche-specific color approved, and the result was well worth the effort. Graphite Blue Metallic is quite subtle in nature (see darker images below) as a vibrant grey with hints of blue, putting it somewhere between Nardo Grey and Kemora Grey in the Tailored Driver color spectrum.

  • Color Check: Bentley Flying Spur Speed in Storm Grey over Kingfisher

Color Check: Bentley Flying Spur Speed in Storm Grey over Kingfisher

While most cars today are produced in monotone paint, there’s no denying that duo-tone bodywork has enjoyed heydays over the years, with more frequent heydays in the super luxury space where brands like Bentley, Rolls-Royce and Bugatti operate. Cars like the new Flying Spur Speed are a perfect platform for just such a duo-tone livery. And in the case of this particular Flying Spur Speed that turned up on the brand’s Global Media Drive, Bentley’s Storm Grey (stormgrey; metallic UNI; 6704; Bentley) over Kingfisher (kingfisher; metallic UNI; 6549 / 9560205; Bentley) looks the business.

Bentley has released photos of each car on location for the drive. This includes full build specifications. Going forward, we’re going to be color checking all of them, and next up is this particular specification.

Inside, the cabin is Brunel and Kingfisher leather detailed with contrast stitching and High Gloss Carbon Fiber fascias.

Worth noting, the car also has several options that we’ll list here along with U.S. pricing. These include Mulliner Personal Commission Duo Tone Paintwork ($33,325), ‘Naim for Bentley Premium Audio System ($9,615), Touring Specification ($7,890), Bentley Rotating Display ($6,955), Full Length Center Console with 4-Seat Configuration ($5,135), Illuminated Flying ‘B’ in Polished Stainless Steel ($4,895), Wellness Seating ($4,670), 22″ Ten Swept Spoke Wheels – Bright Machined ($4,400), and High Gloss Carbon Fiber Fascia ($4,330).

Touring Specification includes Lane Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, Night Vision and Head-up Display.

    Why we love it:

Our friend Sam Brandes from Audi Wilmington told us recently that he’s seeing a renaissance for the C7 RS 7 Sportback. According to Sam, he’s moved several over the last few weeks and he’s buying any good examples he can find for his dealership’s inventory in order to satiate this market desire. In the vein of C7 RS 7s then, we’re not sure there are many specs that are more desirable than an RS 7 performance painted Audi exclusive Nogaro Blue. Bonus points for low mileage and condition.

In the case of this RS 7 that’s just entered inventory at Audi Naples, there’s a premium for the low mileage of 22,900. From our perspective, that’s either collector grade miles or it’s about as new as you’re going to find in this market should you be a Zuckerman and want to buy the ultimate vintage example then drive it because that’s what one does with great cars.

Other notable equipment includes a sport exhaust from the factory by Akrapović. At the time, Audi had invested in the Slovenian manufacturer of titanium exhaust systems, and Akrapović was developing race exhausts for the RS 5 DTM and R18 e-tron quattro LMP1 Le Mans racer. The tie-in offered the ultimate credibility to the purveyor of ultimate titanium exhausts. In period, Audi did offer S6 and S7 exhausts from the dealer and built to Audi spec, though the exhaust on this car is believed to be an Akrapović exhaust sold via their own Akrapović retailers.

If you’re seeking the ultimate specification C7 RS 7, we’re not sure you can do better than this one. Yes, you’ll find them cheaper, but we doubt you’ll find one this nice.
