It’s early 1984 in West Germany, and after a banner 1983 at the firm, your pockets are lined with Deutsche Marks. So you do the most logical thing possible, and spec out your very own brand new 911. But your colleagues all have them too, so yours must be different. You glance out the window at your wife’s 300TD wagon and think to yourself- yep, that’ll set me apart. It’ll be Mercedes Midnight Blue metallic, ordered via Porsche’s Paint to Sample program, and for a further punch to your coworkers’ gut, you’ll pair it with leather to sample in Grey. Frankie Goes to Hollywood comes on the radio. Life is good.
Fast forward to today, this Paint to Sample Midnight Blue Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe (VIN: WP0ZZZ91ZES101928) has aged pretty well- far better than the hits that once rattled its speakers. Modern touches are fairly limited here, with a Continental single-din radio with Bluetooth capability being the most obvious, and that’s just the way we’d want it.
This Paint to Sample Midnight Blue Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe is currently offered for sale by Bring a Trailer power seller 911r at an at-time-of-writing bid of $19,911 with 6 days remaining. We’d bet it’ll finish somewhere quite a bit north of that.

While on a recent trip to Philadelphia’s Main Line to take part in Radnor Hunt Concours weekend festivities, we had a moment to swing through some local dealerships and kick tires. You see, this is where many Philadelphia’s wealthy families call home. This means many of the brands featured here are not hard to find in the average parking lot, putting the ability to stick out at a premium. For Tailored Driver, that means it’s a target rich environment.
Case in point is this Mercedes-Benz Manufaktur Cote d’Azure Blue (cotedazurblau; metallic UNI; 385; Mercedes-Benz) AMG GT 53 sedan, sporting Manufaktur Nut Brown and Black Signature leather (VIN: W1K7X6BB2RV002155) that was found in the window of Mercedes-Benz of Devon. Part of the store’s larger Manufaktur section (yes, they have that), this AMG GT is exactly the level of subtlety you’d expect from the area’s generational-wealth clientele.
This Mercedes-Benz Manufaktur Cote d’Azure Blue AMG GT 53 sedan is currently on offer for an asking price of $151,900 at the aforementioned Mercedes-Benz of Devon, Pennsylvania. Learn more about this Tailored Driver, here.
To quote YouTuber and Cars and Bids founder Doug DeMuro.. “Now THIS is cool!” We’re big fans of BMW’s Z3 platform and even bigger fans of early BMW Individual builds, so when this came across our desk there was admittedly hesitation- do we add to the fleet, or do we showcase for our obsessive audience?
This BMW Individual Atlantis Blue Z3 2.5i Roadster (VIN: WBACN33411LK46065) might not pack the punch of it’s M sibling, but it’s still quite special in our eyes. To fully understand why, consider that BMW Individual formally announced themselves in the US at the 2006 Miami Auto Show- a full five years after this car was built. To put it bluntly, the original curator of this Z3 had some insider knowledge.
If you fancy yourself a cheap point of entry into the world of Tailored Driver, look no further. This BMW Individual Atlantis Blue (atlantisblau; metallic; 399; BMW) Z3 2.5i Roadster is currently located in Buffalo, New York and offered for sale by it’s current owner on Cars and Bids. At time of writing, the current bid is a scant $2,244. Find additional photos and more information about this Tailored Driver, here.
We love forums. They’re where we cut our automotive enthusiast teeth- we dreamed, we learned, we maybe embellished a little, and we met some friends along the way. Some on the Tailored Driver staff were even fortunate enough to call forums and the sites associated their employer. With all this as context, Market Finds sourced via the forums like this one almost feel like somewhat of a homecoming.
Finished in Paint to Sample Albert Blue and hiding more than $32,000 in custom tailoring approved through Porsche’s Sonderwunsch program, this 911 Speedster (VIN: WP0CF2A96KS172707) represents the level of obsession that made forums the go-to for enthusiasts like us. So far as we can tell from the photos, Sonderwunsch tailoring is mostly in the form of (but likely not limited to) deviated brown extended leather on the dash, center console, steering wheel and upper door cards. For good measure, the owner also had Justin Placek create heritage seat inserts with additional lumbar pads to complete the package.
Speaking of the photos, they’re not great. And surprisingly enough, we’re also having trouble tracking down additional images from the usual suspects on Instagram like PTSRS, but that almost adds to the allure- a Tailored Driver, built for the Tailor themselves, and not for social media. So for this example we’ll forgive the less than ideal shots, because to have the vision and the funds to secure this build, the owner is clearly talented in other areas.
This Paint to Sample Albert Blue (albertblau; 325 / 1818 / 387; Porsche) Porsche 911 Speedster is currently for sale by owner in Scarsdale, New York at an asking price of $435,000. Find more information about this Tailored Driver on Rennlist, here.
It’s always interesting when specification of a non-sportscar Porsche goes deep into the Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur catalogue. Take this Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid posted by Porsche AG to their Facebook feed. It begins with Paint to Sample finish, but it hardly ends there.
The color chosen is already quite handsome. Yachting Blue Metallic looks great on a 911, so no surprise it presents the Panamera in similarly attractive form. As Paint to Sample colors go, Yachting Blue is a subtle choice. Medium blue metallics are common on most standard palettes, so like a PTS white, black or grey, the customer is spending a lot for a subtle tailoring of their car. Showing reservation isn’t always high on the list for a soon-to-be owner seeking to spend thousands of dollars on special paint. Maybe that’s why we love it even more when they do choose subtlety. And no doubt, Yachting Blue is a good look.
Another excellent choice is Porsche’s Neodyme, a subtle gold finish that makes the wheels pop. Paired with Yachting Blue, it seems to hark an ’80s classic feel while still not being retro. Instead, it seems timelessly classic.
Inside, Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur goes even further, pairing stitching that seems color matched to the exterior, and also adding Neodyme interior elements as well so that the outside theme carries through across black leather. Custom door sills and even leather operator’s manual folio both read “Be Bold”. That seems fitting, because despite the subtlety of a medium blue metallic or black leather, the overall specification is still decidedly bold.
We don’t have full specification details on this car and only have the Facebook post embedded here to go on. That’s par for the course with manufacturer special paint social media posts. Like the post themselves, we’re including it here more for paint color reference and inspiration look book of capabilities of the Porsche brand. In that we are constantly impressed.
You don’t get to the point of viability for Ferrari ownership by half-assing it, especially if the goal is new vehicle allocation. So should your number be called, why opt for Rosso Corsa over Beige? The individual who made the selections for this build certainly had a vision, and we’d say they knocked it out of the park
A reported one of one finished in Ferrari Tailor Made Blu LXL Lucido Tetto Nero over Lava SC–235 Leather sourced from Italian luxury furniture firm Poltrona Frau with Sail Aunde 3D Nero centers to accentuate the stripes Daytona style seats are legendary for, this may be one of the more intricate interiors we’ll feature. Moving past the obvious, the lengthy list of options does include other notable additions like Airbrushed Shields on the fenders and embroidered on the headrests, Carbon Fiber wheels, and Apple Carplay.
After all that time, dedication, and agonizing, its genuinely a shame that this Ferrari Tailor Made Blu LXL Lucido Tetto Nero SF90 Spider has covered only 160 miles since new. In other words, it’s pretty likely it’s got some original fuel in it, even if the driver didnt take advantage of the claimed 8 miles of electric range. We can only hope the next caretaker of this Tailored Driver exercises it regularly.
This Ferrari Tailor Made Blu LXL Lucido Tetto Nero SF90 Spider (VIN: ZFF96NMAXP0292368) is currently on offer at Ferrari of Fort Lauderdale, FL in $851,585. See all the details, here.
Decidedly more aggressive than prior generations, the current generation SL (R232) is now marketed as an AMG or Maybach rather than a Benz product depending on year which admittedly can be a bit confusing. But regardless of what they want us to call it, this Mercedes-AMG SL 55 (VIN: W1KVK8AB1RF021180) in Manufactur Hyper Blue Metallic (hyperblau; metallic UNI; 964; Mercedes-Benz) is a stunner.
Currently on offer at Rusnak Mercedes-Benz in Arcadia, California with an MSRP of $157,680, this Mercedes-AMG SL 55 would fit right in on the roads of nearby Pasadena or Palm Springs. It’s the kind of purchase that can be serious when it needs to be, but proves you’re not afraid to stand out from the greyscale crowd.
See the full listing on Rusnak Mercedes-Benz of Arcadia’s website, here.
No one does “where do they find this stuff?” quite like Enthusiast Auto Group, and this Tailored Driver is proof positive of that. One of an alleged 8 BMW Individual Santorini Blue E9X generation M3’s, this car has covered just 18,600 miles since new.
We’ll get the EAG tax comments out of the way right now- yes this BMW Individual Santorini Blue (santorinblauii; non-metallic uni; 327; BMW) M3 (VIN: WBSKG9C52DJ594292) is priced at $99,900. And yes, that is the result of color, mileage, and the nearly blank-check refurbishment that EAG is known for. But the Enthusiast Auto Group provenance is music to the ears of those prospective buyers who demand the best and have the means to acquire it.
For most of us, we’ll simply enjoy the view of this Tailored Driver and wonder what if. Because if we walked into a BMW store in 2013, we’d walk out having ordered something just like this.

Finished in the frankly stunning Audi exclusive Mexico Blue, this Audi S5 is proof that the world of Tailored Driver isn’t merely reserved for the wealthy.
Currently on offer at GW Trucks in Jacksonville, FL, this S5 (VIN: WAUP4AF58JA103574) has an asking price of a relatively reasonable $25,995, and has covered just under 70,000 miles since new. We’d say the juxtaposition of bright Audi exclusive Mexico Blue paint with the relative calm of Rotor Gray leather works quite well here, somewhat enhanced by carbon fiber dash trim. Very tasteful.
We do wish images were a bit better and higher resolution, but we’re confident whoever acquires this Tailored Driver will be quite happy indeed.
