As an expansion of the Porsche-focused Luftgekühlt, the Air|Water spinoff event continues to grow. This year, auction house Broad Arrow is in on the action with a Porsche-exclusive auction that certainly won’t disappoint.
Porsche being Porsche, and Porsche owners being Porsche owners, you can also bet that Paint to Sample will be a highlight. Take for example this well-maintained and low milage factory special featuring paint-to-sample Light Yellow paint with color-matched Fuchs wheels. It’s also got Mahogany partial leather interior with matching top that make it truly unique, even amongst a run of just 825 speedsters built only in 1989.

London, England – Broad Arrow Auctions, a Hagerty (NYSE: HGTY) company, continues to add exceptional collector cars to the offering for its inaugural year as the official auction partner of the prestigious Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este.
Today, Broad Arrow is delighted to announce that a significant BMW-only sale will feature as part of its two-day Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este auction. Taking place on the evening of Saturday 24 May, Broad Arrow’s BMW auction will celebrate the heritage of BMW as hosts of the revered Concorso. Early featured collector cars for the BMW-only auction represent halo cars for the marque across nearly 70 years of production.
“It is a real honour for us to host a special auction to celebrate BMW and its legacy of hosting the famous Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este,” said Joe Twyman, VP of Sales for the EMEA Region at Broad Arrow. “We have collated some of the very best cars from BMW’s illustrious history, including both classic and modern as well as iconic motorsport racers. Our evening sale adds a new dimension to the premier event in the concours world, and I am excited to present some of the most exceptional collector BMW cars available, with more soon to be announced.”
Featured cars offered from private collectors at the BMW-only sale include: 1958 BMW 507 Series II Roadster (Estimate: €2.000.000 – €2.300.000)
It is rare to come across a BMW 507 that was under original ownership for nearly its first half-century on the road. Yet this 507, chassis number 70127, can tell such a story. First registered to “Fa. W. Bartels jr.” of Braunschweig, Germany in 1958, it remained in the family for nearly half a century before they reluctantly parted with it. Subsequent owners lavished a great deal of attention on the 507, including a partial interior retrim and a fresh black soft-top. Its most recent owner purchased the car in 2018 and clearly saw great value in its exceptional originality, fastidiously maintained over the previous six decades, though he added just seven kilometres over seven years.
This rare BMW 507 Series II Roadster is offered as a highly original example and is among the most collectible BMW models. Additionally, this sought-after and timeless mid-century sports car celebrates its 70th anniversary this year and is eligible for the most prestigious driving and concours d’elegance events worldwide.
1980 BMW M1 (Estimate: €450.000 – €550.000)
BMW’s “M” division created the M1 as its first fully independent engineering project. Designed to compete with Porsche in Group 5 racing, the M1 featured a mid-engine layout, a tubular space frame chassis by Gianpaolo Dallara, and a striking wedge design by Giorgetto Giugiaro. Just 453 examples were made between 1978 and 1981, including road and racing versions, with the M1 playing a key role in the Procar BMW M1 Championship with drivers Niki Lauda and Nelson Piquet winning the first two seasons.
One of only 71 road cars finished in red from new, this BMW M1 was originally delivered in Berlin to German record producer, Frank Farian. Producer for famous names such as Boney M and Meat Loaf, Farian commissioned BMW Motorsport to modify the bodywork to match that of the famous M1 Procars. This included a large rear wing and a front splitter, while the flared wheel arches allowed wider 16-inch BBS RS multipiece wheels. Additional upgrades performed by Farian included reupholstering the seats with full leather, and unsurprisingly, the car’s sound system was upgraded with a Becker Mexico stereo, Clarion 150EQB graphic equaliser and additional speakers.
Farian owned the M1 for over a decade before selling it to an employee who kept it for the next 18 years when it found a new owner in Belgium. It returned to Germany in 2012 with a new owner and in 2020 it won the Owner’s Choice Award at the prestigious Salon Privé Concours in the U.K.
Following this showing, the car was sold to its current caretaker and was taken to a noted specialist in Sweden for servicing and the paintwork was restored to its original red. On completion, it was displayed at the inaugural 2024 The Aurora Scandinavian Concours in Sweden.
This remarkable BMW M1 has covered just under 91,000 kilometres (56,000 miles), has known celebrity ownership, and benefits from period modifications by BMW Motorsport.
2000 BMW Z8 (Estimate: €200.000 – €225.000)
Inspired by the 1956 BMW 507, the Z8, introduced in the late 1990s, blended retro design with modern performance. Designed by Henrik Fisker, the Z8’s styling incorporated nods to the 507, including a sculpted dashboard and front fender vents. Built on a bespoke aluminium chassis with a two-seat roadster body, it features the 4.9-litre V8 engine from the E39 BMW M5, producing 400 cv and 500 nm of torque. With a weight of 1,585 kg, the Z8 could accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in just 4.7 seconds, reaching a top speed of 250 km/h.
Delivered new in Italy on 22 June 2001 by Autosport Brescia, this Z8 was specified in sleek Titanium Silver over a striking two-tone Sport Red and Black leather interior. Offered by just its third owner, the Z8 is in excellent condition, having covered just over 23,000 kilometres during its lifetime.
1981 BMW M1 (Estimate: €475.000 – €575.000)
This M1 was completed on 30 January 1981, one of 11 M1s delivered new to the BMW importer in the United Arab Emirates. It was purchased by Vijay Mallya, co-founder of the Force India Formula One Team, with the digital history file showing it was first registered in the U.K. on 30 January 1989.
It remained under Mallya’s ownership and travelled with him to Dubai, then to the U.K. and on to Alaska in 2012 before returning to the U.K. in 2014. Having owned it for 29 years, he sold the car in 2016 to its current owner in the Netherlands.
“These wonderful cars are just a taste of what is to come,” added Joe Twyman. “More fine examples from BMW’s wonderful history are soon to be announced.”

What: 1988 Porsche 911 TAG Turbo “AP87” by Lanzante Color: Mint Green (mintgrün; non-metallic UNI; 22R; Porsche) VIN: WP0JB0936JS050399 Mileage: 300 miles Price: $2,848,000 CarFax: N/A Window Sticker: N/A Location: England Link: Broad Arrow
One of the more fascinating and certainly the more storied in the Porsche 911 remastering game must certainly be Lanzante and their Porsche 911 TAG Turbos. After acquiring a bulk of former TAG Turbo F1 racing engines developed by Porsche for McLaren, the firm set about building a series of only eleven Porsche 911 Turbos fitted with them. In doing so, they created the ultimate tribute inspired by the one-off Porsche TAG Turbo test car built by Porsche’s own R&D department.
The engine in this particular 911 is a 1.5-liter V6, and specifically TTE P01 raced by Alain Prost at the 1986 German Grand Prix and the 1987 Hungarian and Japanese Grand Prix. Like the other Lanzante TAG Turbos, the car also gets carbon fiber bodywork, carbon ceramic brakes, coilover suspension and aluminum doors.
The car in question was commissioned in Mint Green over black leather and featuring a blue and green tartan in the seat centers. It also features 17-inch versions of the familiar RUF 5-spoke wheel from period.

What: 2022 Porsche 911 GT3 Touring Color: Black Olive (schwarzolive; non-metallic Uni; 2A7; Porsche) VIN: WP0AC2A96NS271189 Mileage: 482 miles Price Estimate: $350,000 to $400,000 CarFax: N/A Window Sticker: N/A Location: The Amelia Auction by Broad Arrow, Amelia Island, FL Listing:Link
While those without Paint to Sample (PTS) allocations may beg to differ, the reality when it comes to special paint at Porsche is that the take rate for PTS is considerably higher than it has been historically. Yes, PTS has been offered by Stuttgart for decades, but today it is a an extra mark of exclusivity for a brand enjoying a definite heyday. So, even if you have a PTS allocation, the trick is to choose a more obscure color or go further with special Exclusive Manufaktur CXX special requests. For those watching the Amelia Island week auction dockets, it’s notable that this particular 911 GT3 Touring sports both an obscure color and special interior.
This 911 is PTS Black Olive, a medium dark non-metallic green. The color has a bit of a retro look about it, almost making you wonder if it comes from the 356 era. It doesn’t, and was only briefly offered from the factory in the 997.2 and 991 eras, and occasionally chosen by PTS customers. It’s a subtle handsome look, but not one that’s going to scream look at me like a Gulf Blue or Viper Green.
A perfect pairing of satin white gold wheels from Exclusive Manufaktur only emphasizes the classic feel of Black Olive.
Open the door for a peek inside and we’d argue that’s where this car becomes truly special. It features over $35,000 in CXX requests. The color is Exclusive Manufaktur Truffle Brown and Black, over Porsche’s carbon bucket seats. It also includes quilted door panels and deviated stitching throughout.
Broad Arrow’s lot description includes the following further description of the interior. “at delivery it was taken even further with the addition of body color Black Olive-painted seat belt pass-throughs and Black and White houndstooth check fabric seat inserts.”
We’re not sure exactly what that means and would suggest those with a very strict appreciation for factory specification only cars may want to take not here and inquire for further details from Broad Arrow. Their description also notes that, “The lengthy list of options and CXX special wishes is on file and available for review.”
Other options include 6-speed manual transmission, Front Axle Lift, Touring Pack in Black, full body-color carbon roof, Extended Range fuel tank, BOSE sounds system and Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes with Black brake calipers featuring Chalk Porsche lettering. All told, the car stickered at $370,000.
The car has logged only 482 miles, which makes it practically new in our book.
Broad Arrow is well known for offering modern classic supercars to discerning collectors around the world, and the ultra-rare Porsche 911 TAG Turbo and RUF CTR Anniversary in this epic Hagerty and Broad Arrow film, bring that reputation to life.
This is the first time the stunning Mint Green (mintgrün; non-metallic UNI; 22R; Porsche) pair have been together on film, providing a rare chance to see, hear and experience both cars being driven as intended, as Hagerty’s Henry Catchpole puts them through their paces. In this exhilarating test, he tackles the picturesque Anglesey Circuit, capturing the raw nature, and sounds, of both cars while revealing their unique personalities.
Both cars impressed Catchpole with their unique character and exceptional performance on track. The RUF he described as “utterly extreme” and a “proper wild child” with its 710hp engine powering just the rear wheels. The TAG Turbo seemed to steel his heart. Expecting a car ruled by its engine, he noted how well-engineered the car is, concluding it felt like “one of the very best 911s” in history, and yet perfectly useable day-to-day.
The 2023 RUF CTR Anniversary is one of only 50 limited production models, and is a brand-new car finished in PTS Mint Green over a Black Alcantara interior. Offered with very low mileage and a digital copy of its original build sheet, it has been optioned with front axle lift, foldable Kevlar carbon bucket seats, lightweight door option, and harness crossbar in Alcantara. Powered by a 710-horsepower flat-six twin-turbo engine paired with a seven-speed manual gearbox, it is capable of 0-62 mph in 3.5 seconds with a 224-mph top speed.
Alois Ruf is rightly proud of this very special car, saying; “The first automobile that was completely conceived and manufactured by us marks a very special chapter in our company’s history, a 30th birthday celebration of the Yellowbird.”
The 1988 Porsche 911 TAG Turbo, consigned to Broad Arrow Private Sales, is one of only 11 built by Lanzante and this particular example was completed in 2020. Custom finished in Mint Green over Black leather with Blue/Green tartan cloth, it is offered with less than 300 miles since completion. Power comes from a 1.5-litre TAG Turbo “TTE P01” V6 Formula One engine developed by Porsche and rebuilt by Cosworth, which revs to 10,250rpm via a custom Porsche 993 six-speed gearbox and has a claimed top speed of 200 mph. The engine in this car was raced by four-time Formula One World Champion Alain Prost at the 1986 German Grand Prix and the 1987 Hungarian and Japanese Grands Prix.
Dean Lanzante said of his Porsche TAG Turbo creation: “It’s a car that celebrates history, the history between two amazing brands. But it will remain extremely rare because it has to be. We couldn’t get any more engines from McLaren, so this is it. There will never be another car like it.”
Broad Arrow VP of Sales for EMEA, Joe Twyman, provided driver support on the day and is behind the wheel of the second car throughout the film. Joe is a highly experienced driver in his own right having raced many important cars at events around the world. Speaking of his time with both cars, Twyman said: “While both are finished in the same colour, the cars themselves are very different. Both are extremely powerful but encourage the driver to get the best from them. They are also beautifully built, and exceptionally well developed and compliant both on track and on the road. The film will provide a real insight into the cars and will be both a joy to watch for any enthusiast while also providing an unrivalled level of insight for any potential buyer.”
Interested buyers should note the RUF CTR Anniversary has recently been sold, proving the ability of the Broad Arrow team to find the right buyer for specialist cars, swiftly.
The Porsche 911 TAG Turbo will be available to view on the Broad Arrow stand at the Retromobile show taking place in Paris on 5–9 February. Members of the Broad Arrow team will be on hand to show the car in detail to any interested buyers.
The story of Porsche and McLaren International – how the Porsche TAG Turbo was created McLaren’s Ron Dennis approached Porsche in early 1981 to build a turbocharged Formula One engine and was initially told it would not be possible. Later, Porsche agreed to design a new 1.5-litre twin-turbo V6 engine, funded by Techniques d’Avant Garde Group S.A. (TAG), for McLaren.
The TAG-Porsche powered McLaren MP4/2s triumphed at 12 of the 16 Grands Prix in 1984, taking the Constructors’ Championship and giving Niki Lauda the Drivers’ Championship. 1985 brought a further six wins, a second consecutive Constructors’ Championship and Prost achieved his first Drivers’ Championship with five wins. Prost won the Drivers’ title again in 1986 with Porsche’s 1.5-litre TTE (TAG Turbo Engines) V6, now producing 910 horsepower in race trim and 990hp for qualifying. For 1987, Prost partnered with Stefan Johansson, and while the season wasn’t as successful as in the past, the Frenchman still managed three wins.
In March 1987 the TAG V6 was installed in a Porsche 911 Turbo. This unique car remains in the McLaren International collection and, aside from a surprise appearance at the 2012 McLaren Employee Motorshow, this special car has remained under wraps. What was gifted to McLaren by Porsche at the conclusion of their partnership appeared to be a lightly modified Grand Prix White 911 Turbo with RUF five-spoke Speedline wheels and a RUF front valance. Yet this valance hid two large radiators, and out back, two massive intercoolers were fitted underneath a relatively stock looking Turbo tail with a subtle ram-air scoop at the trailing edge.
Over the years, many of those aware of the car’s existence had made direct overtures to McLaren to acquire it, including Dean Lanzante, yet the answer was always no. Lanzante was persistent and persuaded the company to provide a 1.5-litre TAG Turbo intending to produce a second Formula One-powered Porsche Type 930. In the end, Lanzante and his team embarked on constructing 11 TAG-powered 930s—a car for each pilot in each year a McLaren MP4 was powered by a Porsche TTE engine.
The engine was extensively re-engineered by Cosworth and features new pistons, connecting rods, valves, valve springs, modern turbochargers, an updated cooling system, oil heat exchangers, and an Inconel exhaust with titanium tailpipes. The engine itself is an incredible 286 pounds lighter than the 3.3-litre air-cooled flat six it replaces. A Cosworth ECU and a bespoke Raychem motorsport-grade wiring loom manage the engine, paired with a six-speed H-pattern manual transmission featuring bespoke gear ratios for a 200-mph top speed via a twin-plate hydraulic carbon clutch.

What: 2005 Ferrari 575 Superamerica Color: Azzurro California (azzurrocalifornia; metallic uni; 524 / 666010; Ferrari) Chassis #: ZFFGT61AX50142963 Mileage: 4,025 Price Estimate: $375,000 – $425,000 CarFax: Inquire with Auction House Window Sticker: N/A Location: Broad Arrow Auction at The Amelia, Amelia Island, FL Auction Link:Link
Why We Love It:
Based on the 575 Maranello, Ferrari created a truly unique open-air version from 2005-2006 called the Superamerica. Uniquely, the Ferrari factory deployed a backwards rotating roof made from a single piece of electro chromatic glass. Flipping about 180 degrees on the axis perched near the top of the B-pillar, it came to rest on the top of the rear deck lid when fully opened. That aforementioned B-pillar was actually a reinforced buttress on each side, while the rear window operated as deflector when the top was down.
Just 559 cars were built, with this one built for the North American market in 2005. Even for such a rare car, it is an even more rare specification of Azzurro California over Blu Scuro leather and optional contrast stitching in Grigio Chiaro. Other options include Scuderia Ferrari fender shields, electric seats, High Power Hi-Fi audio system with six-disc CD changer. It also got the GTC Handling Package that came with 19-inch five-spoke split-rim magnesium wheels from Speedline, stiffer springs front and rear, and integrated roll bar, sports exhaust and carbon ceramic brakes with red brake calipers.
Originally registered in Quebec, the car then moved to Oahu Hawaii, Florida and California before its most recent home in Ohio.
The car is one of many cars to be sold at the Broad Arrow sale planned at The Amelia. Interested parties should inquire with Broad Arrow or attend the sale during The Amelia weekend.
In Italian “countach” is an expression like “goodness” or “oh my God.” Sounds about right. Car-aware kids of the 1980s likely exclaimed it when they first encountered one, maybe in the pages of Road & Track or maybe in that opening scene of Cannonball Run. No doubt they headed on down to the local mall and picked up a Choices poster at Spencer Gifts, hung it on their bedroom wall and stared longingly at it for years to come. Now, they’re adults and they all dream of the same Countach fantasy. And, if they’re appropriately funded, they add one to the garage. If you’re that kid, you should check out this ’87 Countach 5000 QV set to cross the Broad Arrow block at The Amelia in a few weeks.
And while monochromatic “cocaine white” on white will get you Wolf of Wall Street cred, or black on gold will get you reliving the Cannonball Run, we’d argue a Giallo Fly (Fly Yellow) on brown leather brings back 80s vibes with just as much authenticity.
This one’s a desirable setup, a later Quattrovalvole 48-valve version of the V12 with “round belly” design, yet predating all the plastic cheese gratery of the final 50th anniversary models. This car is one of just 66 fuel-injected U.S. market cars ever produced. It is well preserved and unmodified, and has spent much of its life in California and Florida. It’s also had mechanical refurbishment done recently in 2024.
What: 1994 Ferrari 348 Spider Color: “Canna di Fucile” Metallic (cannadifucilemetallic; metallic UNI; 703/C; Ferrari) VIN: ZFFRG43A3R0098406 Mileage: 17,800 Price at Time of this Writing: $110,000 – $140,000 estimate CarFax: N/A Window Sticker: N/A Location: The Amelia Auction 2025 by Broad Arrow, Amelia Island, FL Dealer listing:Link
Why we love it:
One of the great things about a tailored build is the ability to move away from the predictable. On the spectrum of Ferrari, red over tan is ubiquitous, but grey over blue… now that’s something pretty unique. Such is the case with this ’94 348 Spider that’s been entered into the upcoming 2025 Broad Arrow auction held during The Amelia concours week in Florida.
The name of the color is Canna di Fucile Metallic, a medium grey metallic that might look a bit drab with simple black interior, but throw in some deep Blue Connolly leather with matching blue top and it’s a whole new ballgame.
What: 1978 Porsche 911 Turbo RUF BTR Color: Oak Green Metallic (oakgrünmetallic; metallic UNI; 265 / 22L / 60K; Porsche) VIN: 9308700670 Mileage: 7,021 Price at Time of this Writing: $395,000 CarFax: N/A Window Sticker: N/A Location: USA Dealer listing:Link
Why we love it:
With 2024 being the anniversary of the 911 Turbo, the amount of forced induction elfers coming onto the market this year has been astounding. Now throw in Oak Green Metallic paint, the same color Dr. Ferry Porsche painted his personal 911 Turbo, and you already have a winner before we get to the fact that this is an early Turbo built by then fledgling RUF Automobile of Pfaffenhausen, Germany.
The Oak Green car you see here is a U.S. market 930 built to “Group B Turbo RUF” (BTR) specification. Equipment included this car included displacement punched out from 3.3-liters to 3.4-liters with twin-plug heads, a larger RUF intercooler, and a four-outlet exhaust system. Period RUF documentation estimates power from this and other modifications at 374-horsepower and 480 NM of torque.
Other modifications included RUF’s own 5-speed transmission (something Porsche wouldn’t give the 911 Turbo until 1989), Porsche 935-style Bilstein coilover suspension, 917-derived brakes, and 17-inch 5-spoke RUF wheels made by Speedline and similar to those also fitted on the famous Yellowbird.
The car has a great look, though is in original condition so features some wear as can be seen in these photos and even more, also explained in greater detail, via the link HERE.
What: 1992 Porsche 911 Turbo (type 964) Color: Pearlescent White Metallic (perlweißmetallic; metallic uni; L0A9 / 947; Porsche) VIN: WP0AA2963NS480308 Mileage: 937 miles Price at Time of this Writing: Estimate:$350,000 – $450,000 CarFax:Link Window Sticker: Link Location: Amelia Island, FL at The Amelia Concours 2025, Broad Arrow Auction Dealer listing:Link
Why we love it:
Hit up sites like Porsche Club North America’s Rennbow paint resource and you’ll see Pearl White Metallic was a color that began in the 1980s on cars like the 928 and 944, though Broad Arrow also shares in this car’s Lot description an even more exotic Porsche history for this metallic shade of white. You see, it was also sprayed onto more spotlighted debuts such as the 956 sports racing prototype, the 959 “Gruppe B” concept that previewed the 959, the 911 Speedster Studie, and even the 924 Carrera prototype, all in this distinctive paint. Not surprisingly given the popular use by Porsche at auto shows, Pearl White Metallic was most definitely available in the brand’s Paint to Sample program.
Back in 1992, Porsche only produced 233 of the early 3.3-liter 911 Turbo (type 964) for the U.S. market. This particular car was the final one produced for North America that year, and delivered to Porsche Clearwater (then Bert Smith International). Its specification went well beyond Paint to Sample Pearl White Metallic and Black full leather with Can-Can Red piping to include almost 20 X-Code options and addition Z-Orders from Porsche Exclusive. Additions to the build included Dark Rootwood trim, additional leather on interior components including headliner, rare leather center console and remote remote CD-1 CD changer.
In addition to the factory specification, this car also is currently fitted with Rest of World front bumper lights, Turbo 3.6 “Speedline for Porsche” wheels, and period TechArt accessories.
Interestingly, the order process was retained in the car’s history file, and reveals that the owner even attempted to order his 911 Turbo 3.3 with 959-style fenders though unfortunately that never happened. Broad Arrow goes on to detail the ownership of the car in their lot description.
“According to the clean CARFAX Vehicle History Report, the car was registered to its first long-term caretaker in July 1992 based in Florida who would retain it for the next 24 years until its sale in 2016 with a scant 712 miles on its VDO odometer. In 2019, it was acquired by the current owner, a noted collector of highly original, low mileage 1980s and ’90s sports cars. With years of proper preservation, the Turbo’s Pearlescent White Metallic finish remains “show car” radiant while its full Black leather interior with its multitude of Exclusive options, including a rarely seen leather headliner, remains as expected in pristine condition. Most recently, the car visited European Performance in Raleigh, North Carolina for a new fuel pressure accumulator and AC system recharge in 2022 and later an inspection and oil filter service in October 2024. Perhaps, as expected, this final 1992 911 Turbo retains its window sticker, manuals, toolkit, air pump, spare, and correspondence between Porsche and the original long-term owner. This impressive level of documentation is, just like its exceptionally low mileage, a superb indication of the careful preservation afforded to this highly collectible, special-occasion supercar.”
