A highlight of Monterey Car Week is Broad Arrow’s Monterey Jet Center Auction held at the nearby airport. While in town for MCW, we stopped in for a visit at the Broad Arrow preview in order to take a closer look at the incredible metal they were offering for sale. Amongst that mix was this 1973 Ferrari Dino 246 GTS painted in Grigio Ferro Metallizzato (106-E-28).
Research suggests this wasn’t a special request. Grigio Ferro Metallizzato was introduced on later cars, though it remains quite rare. Only 35 Dinos were built in this color.
We encountered the car parked inside one of the Monterey Jet Center hangars that was being used for the Broad Arrow Auction. It sold for $626,500.
Is it a show within a show? Maybe if you’re not holding a buyer placard. The Broad Arrow Monterey Jet Center Auction isn’t just a gathering of super exotic and classic cars set for sale during Monterey Car Week, it’s also a significant portion of the Hagerty Motorlux event.
Hagerty formed Broad Arrow not long ago, with the startup auction firm’s presence now a fixture at most any large Hagerty owned and operated event. Motorlux is a key part of that, while Monterey Car Week is the event week you can’t miss if you’re anybody in the premium or luxury car space. New for 2024, Broad Arrow debuted a runway-style auction block in order to freshen up the model of a car auction like this.
Given the amount of money and discerning aficionados present at this time, the Jet Center Auction in particular tends to be ripe with special and unique cars. Exacting specifications are to be expected, which is fine by us.
This two-day auction amassed a sales total of $71.5 million with 85% of cars sold. Also interesting, their team saw large growth in attendance, including 42% of those registering to bid being first-timers.
Watch the site for a full gallery and coverage from Motorlux as well. In the meantime, here are some detailed shots from on site of some of our favorite Broad Arrow cars we were watching heading into Monterey.

Why we love it:
From Ferrari’s Tailor Made Collection, this 70th Anniversary Edition 488 Spider is one-of-one, livery #19. Known as “The Shah”, it incorporates Pure Metal Silver Metallic on the main body with Tetto Rubino Micalizzato on the top. The look was intended to pay homage to the Ferrari 410 Superamerica Series II Coupe chassis 07171 SA that was originally delivered to the Shah of Iran.
Inside, there’s even more red, handsomely accented with light grey and black accents. All-told, the car boasts over $128,000 in bespoke and optional extras. If you’re headed to Monterey Car Week, it’s worth heading over to the Monterey Jet Center in order to check out this very special 488.

Why we love it:
Red Ferraris may not be dime-a-dozen, but they’re kind always expected. So, when you have an owner spec the car in something entirely less obvious, you’ve always got a winner. Take for example this 1999 550 Maranello in rare Grigio Ingrid Metallic, a platinum silver that isn’t even your typical silver. That’s paired with Bordeaux and Crema leather with optional Crema piping for one very lavish cabin.
Worth also noting is that it’s got a gated manual, and Broad Arrow reports a clean CarFax. If you happen to be out at Monterey Car Week, swing by the Jet Center and check out this very tailored 90s-era GT.
What: 1999 Mercedes-Benz G 500 Classic Cabriolet Color: Almandine Black Metallic (almandinschwarz; metallic uni; 182 / 9182; Mercedes-Benz) VIN: WDB4632061X118986 Mileage: 47852 km Price at Time of this Writing: Estimated $275,000 to $325,000 CarFax: N/A Original MSRP: N/A Location: Broad Arrow 2024 Monterey Jet Center Auction Auction listing:Link
Why we love it:
As G-Wagen’s go, the G 500 Classic Cabriolet is an incredibly rare specimen. This one is finished in Almandine Black Metallic that is actually an incredibly dark red. Paired with two-tone Black and Purple Nappa Leather interior, it’s a subtle yet distinct specification that is sure to please.
Check it out in the Broad Arrow Monterey Jet Center Auction that is part of the always-entertaining must-see Monterey Car Week.
What: 2020 Ferrari 488 Pista Color: Grass Green (grassgreen; non-metallic uni; 296; Ferrari) VIN: ZFF90HLA9L0253897 Mileage: 1,015 miles Price at Time of this Writing: Estimated $650,000 to $700,000 CarFax: N/A Original MSRP: N/A Location: Broad Arrow 2024 Monterey Jet Center Auction Auction listing:Link
Why we love it:
Paging Jay Kay. We’ve loved primary green on Ferraris ever since Jamiroquai’s lead singer raised eyebrows at Goodwood with his LaFerrari. Perhaps inspired by that car, this 488 Pista that’s turned up in the catalogue of Broad Arrow’s upcoming 2024 Monterey Jet Center Auction will make you green with envy. The paint color is Extra Campionario (special order) Grass Green that may be identical to Viper Green according to some accounts. That’s paired with muted Nero stripes and black brakes so as to tone down the in-your-face green just a bit, while the interior continues the green theme with special Matte Green Carbon Fiber.
It’s a very distinct thing, and not for the feint of heart. Check it out in the Broad Arrow Monterey Jet Center Auction during the 2024 Monterey Car Week activities.
