It doesn’t happen often- I can count the number times on one hand- but there are moments in the Tailored Driver journey where I wonder to myself, “Did I black out and somehow don’t remember ordering this?” Of course it’s not the case for reasons related to both consumption and available funds, but damn if this isn’t one of those moments. Paint to Sample Deep Sea Blue over Ascot Brown buckets and a 6 speed manual, paired with gold wheels and the only modification being a shift knob made from Beech Wood. As frequent visitors have learned- we’re massive fans of the 997-generation 911. The right size, modern (enough) tech, and still hints of that analog driving experience, the 997 also had the benefit of being the real start of Porsche’s endless variant strategy and proliferation of Paint to Sample. This particular 997 in Paint to Sample Speed Yellow has another big thing going for it, being a Speedster. Consider it an unexpected must-have for the 911 collector who already has the numerous ‘traditional’ GT models, awaiting its next steward.

    Why we love it:

We’re big fans of the road less traveled here, that’s not exactly a secret. This Tailored Driver is exactly that- finished in Porsche’s Midnight Blue Metallic (rare), with 1992’s 911 C2 Cab Rest-of-World only Turbo Look body optioned (more rare) Leather to Sample in an unknown light blue (incredibly rare). Per the listing this Tailored Driver is one of just 1,532 C2s optioned with the factory widebody, and has spent the entirety of it’s life in Germany. Being a 1992 model year example, importation to the US should be a breeze using a reputable vendor like Orchid Euro.

    Why we love it:

In terms of rarity, 996-generation Paint to Sample Porsches are up there. Graded on that curve, this particular 996 Turbo Cab with X50 package is simply off the charts. Draped in Porsche Paint to Sample Zircon Blue Metallic- a color so rare that Rennbow can only muster a shrug and a Google search of the color shows this car as the only result- this Tailored Driver also represents a bit of a question mark for us. Undoubtedly a true ‘match this’ request from Tailor to Factory, touch up paint for the color points to code W49, Zircon Blue and the color is further confirmed by an old Bring a Trailer listing. Oddly enough, per Rennbow and other sources W49 was later used for Grigio Granito Metallic, a fairly dynamic Grey with pronounced metallic flake. While full details are yet to be revealed, finds like this are the stuff of Tailored Driver dreams, and we’re incredibly excited to have preserved it in our records.

  • Market Find: 2023 Porsche Paint to Sample Fjord Green 911 Carrera GTS

Market Find: 2023 Porsche Paint to Sample Fjord Green 911 Carrera GTS

What: 2023 Porsche 911 Carrera GTS
Color: Paint to Sample Fjord Green (fjordgrün; non-metallic UNI; 5705; 6005; Porsche)
    VIN: WP0AB2A98PS220959
    Mileage: 922
Price at Time of this Writing: Available upon request
    CarFax: Link
    Window Sticker: Pictured below
    Location: Miami, FL
    Dealer Listing: Link

    Why we love it:

If much of the current Porsche market is the safe alternative short-term investment as it may seem, this Paint to Sample Fjord Green 911 Carrera GTS might be considered speculative at best. Allow us to explain- a claimed $136,000 in options were applied to this GTS, just $8,000 shy of matching of the car’s $144,000 base price, and then it simply was not driven. Two years and 922 miles later, this GTS is now for sale with a price that’s only polite to share when directly asked for, although we’d bet it’s near the $257,699 it fetched on Bring a Trailer back in August. So what does $136,000 of options get you? Well, apart from nearly all the menu items, you get the very rare Fjord Green paint, CXX-granted door cards with Agave Green uppers stitched in Mojave Beige and lowers in Cognac Leather, as well as Cognac leather on the seats, shift boot, storage bin, knee pads, and lower center console. Oh, and the Agave/Cognac theme is applied to the air vents as well.

  • Market Find: CXX Noto Green Extended Leather Porsche GT3 RS Weissach

Market Find: CXX Noto Green Extended Leather Porsche GT3 RS Weissach

While wild colors may be much more prevalent due to a comparatively low cost and bigger effect, this is the kind of Tailored Driver that really gets us excited. The exterior of this Porsche 911 GT3 RS with Weissach Package (VIN:  WP0AF2A95KS165691)? It’s non-metallic black, a $0 option. Nothing to see here, keep moving along. But it’s what is going on inside that is reason for fixation.

There you’ll see $49,000 in CXX or Special Wishes tailoring, nearly every available surface covered in incredibly cool Noto Green leather. Currently on offer by Cabiglio Garage on Bring a Trailer showing just 2,500 miles, this GT3 RS carried an original MSRP of $301,760, representing what just may be the highest sticker’d (before Dealer markup) example sold stateside. While we’re speculating, we’ll also mention the reputation of the seller, known for marketing vehicles on behalf of Jerry Seinfeld, Spike Feresten Tom Hanks, and Paul Bettany. That fact, paired with the Santa Monica airport as image backdrop, means this may have been originally owned by a notable heavy-hitter in the LA car scene.

If you’re interested, better get your finances in order fast. The auction for this Tailored Driver ends this afternoon, and could break the $450,000 mark. Get all the details for this Porsche 911 GT3 RS Weissach, here.
