Blackbridge Motors Unveils Newest Defender 110 with Jeep Wrangler Chassis

With a Base Price of $169,950, Blackbridge’s Mark IV Offers Competitive Pricing With No Sacrifice to Comfort or Luxury

    [source: Blackbridge Motors]

NORWALK, CT – Renowned for their exacting craftsmanship in reviving and enhancing classic Land Rovers to offer an exhilarating contemporary driving experience, Blackbridge Motors proudly introduces their latest bespoke creation: Defender 110 Mark IV, complete with custom-modified Jeep Wrangler underpinnings and an array of modern performance upgrades. Through their meticulously refined OEM-like build process, Blackbridge Motors seamlessly delivers pristine vehicles such as the new Mark IV without compromise to performance, comfort, or luxury, all while offering clients an exceptionally competitive price point relative to other custom Land Rover builders. Moreover, in an industry where extended wait times for vehicle delivery have become customary among restomod builders, Blackbridge Motors boasts an average turnaround time from down payment to delivery of just 4 months.

Scott Gilbert founded Blackbridge Motors with the core belief that the thrill of owning and driving an iconic Land Rover Defender shouldn’t come with compromises to comfort or handling. Drawing from years of professional expertise in repairing and restoring Defenders, Gilbert crafted standardized parts and solutions that can easily be switched out and modified depending on a client’s needs and preferences.

“A standout feature of our platforms and standardized process is the remarkable degree of flexibility and customization it affords our clients when tailoring a build to precisely meet their needs,” comments Blackbridge Motors Founder & CEO Scott Gilbert. “The most common question we get from potential clients is what makes us different from the plethora of other Land Rover outfits currently on the market. What I always tell them is that while anyone can throw a bigger engine in a Defender and call it a day, what really matters is everything around the engine bay that affects the drivability, safety, reliability, and overall on-road handling experience, and that’s something we’ve refined to the point of excellence.”

The daily drivability and formidability of each truck, both on and off-road, is among the most pivotal aspects of any Blackbridge build. The newest Blackbridge Motors Mark IV Defender features a GM Performance 6.2L V8 LS3 425-hp engine outfitted with a Blackbridge-designed, aerospace-grade body harness that is affixed to the GM Performance OEM engine and transmission harnesses. To ensure seamless performance and synergy between components, Blackbridge employed an almost complete suite of driveline parts from General Motors such as a GM performance 6-speed automatic transmission, GM transfer case, GM gear select lever, GM performance engine accessory kit, and GM Performance OEM engine control module.

The General Motors engine system also ensures that clients can conveniently service their Blackbridge Motors Defender at any GM facility or dealer nearby. Optional engine and drivetrain appointments for prospective clients include a 6.2L V8 GM LT1 and an 8-speed automatic transmission with 450-hp or a 6-speed manual transmission.

The new Blackbridge Motors 110 Defender Mark IV includes heavy-duty Dana HD front and rear axles with 4.88 gearing and a special hydroboost four-wheel Wilwood Master braking system. The original Land Rover Defender chassis has been replaced with a modified 2018 Jeep Wrangler 116-inch chassis which extends the wheelbase and interior space by 6 inches. The new Jeep JK chassis affords clients numerous options when selecting wheels as opposed to the relatively limited choices available for the original Defender OEM platform. 16-inch steel “WOLF” style wheels and BFGoodrich K02 A/T tires were chosen by the client for this new Mark IV. Fox custom valved shocks were added for improved off-road capability and on-road cabin stability along with a custom-engineered heavy-duty steering linkage box and heavy-duty control arms. For extended range and fuel efficiency, a 22.5-gallon fuel tank and a Blackbridge OEM GM returnless, high-flow fuel pump system were also added.

The base of the interior cabin is lined throughout with custom flooring from Chilewich, with all wiring for the HiFi Audio System and climate control systems running through the sides of the vehicle instead of the floor; making all floor space completely usable without worry of damaging the interior vehicle systems. The interior is comprehensively and harmoniously adorned with an off-white weather treated leather in Hellgrau (light gray) by Hydes which is upholstered throughout the cabin seating, door cards, and center console. Blackbridge utilizes this treated leather for many of their coastal clients as it maintains an unparalleled resistance to moisture.

The custom-designed dashboard is meant to symbolize the simplicity and analog style of original Defender interiors with exception to the subtly integrated modern amenities. The HiFi Audio System is accompanied by a 9-inch touch screen display with electric heating and cooling capabilities, CNC machined vents and controls located alongside as well as custom analog-style dash gauges. Two successive rows of captain’s chairs are spaciously separated by the Blackbridge-designed center consoles all furnished in the moisture-resistant leather. The entire cabin is accented with modestly integrated LED lighting for style and visibility at night. The cargo space in the Mark IV remains unencumbered, designed for practical utility such as loading beach or outdoor gear, distinguishing it from Blackbridge’s alternative jump seating options. The cargo area is accessible via a dropdown-style tailgate with a secure storage locker.

The Blackbridge designed tub is produced as a single piece, which makes for increased rigidity and simplifies the assembly process. Lighting upgrades include LED running lights, brake lights, turn signals, and Blackbridge x Vision X 7-inch round DOT LED headlights in the OEM grill. For increased in-vehicle visibility, Blackbridge Motors installed a Standard Width Body Canvas Soft Top with Strataglass Windows, presenting incredible outdoor visibility and elemental protection. Custom upholstered canvas soft tops are available for every build starting at $12,000.

When speaking on Blackbridge’s competitive price point, Gilbert explains, “We’ve cultivated a distinct advantage over our competitors by tailoring our systems to accommodate a diverse range of client needs. This approach not only optimizes efficiency but also significantly reduces costs and time associated with repair and maintenance, thanks to our proprietary Blackbridge parts seamlessly integrated with the General Motors drivetrain package. Gilbert continues, “Collectively, these factors empower us to offer our products at a price point considerably lower than that of our counterparts, without compromising on quality. In fact, our value proposition is further enhanced when considered for ease of use and maintenance.”

Pricing for the custom Blackbridge Motors Defender 110 Mark IV starts at $169,950. For more information on Blackbridge Motors and available vehicles, please visit www.blackbridgemotors.com or call (203) 817-0014.

  • HIMALAYA 4×4 Unveils Handmade Vintage HUE 166 DEFENDER with Upgraded Performance and Drivability

HIMALAYA 4×4 Unveils Handmade Vintage HUE 166 DEFENDER with Upgraded Performance and Drivability

    [source: HIMALAYA 4×4]

CHARLESTON, SC – World famous Defender builder HIMALAYA is thrilled to unveil the company’s newest handmade truck paying homage to the legendary HUE 166. Aimed at providing the best of both worlds for enthusiasts, the new $300,000 HIMALAYA HUE 166 presents itself as a perfectly restored Defender that simultaneously features an incredible list of luxurious upgrades carefully engineered into the truck to make it a joy to drive in modern roadgoing conditions.

Now new for 2021, HIMALAYA is celebrating that same legendary heritage by introducing a fully restored custom HUE 166 made for the modern road and beyond. Modeled after the first-ever production Land Rover ever made, HIMALAYA’s newest build features the exact same paint scheme as the original HUE 166. The HUE 166 was the first Rover off the Solihull manufacturing line back in 1948, and the “Grasmere Green” rig was Land Rover’s very first production color. The original HUE 166 was the dawn of the Defender as a world class truck known all over the globe for its dignified durability, handsome styling, and dependable performance even in the harshest conditions.

“Vintage Defenders are some of the most beautiful pieces of transportation ever made, but seventy-year-old trucks are difficult to drive these days. HIMALAYA gives vintage Defenders new life. The HUE 166 is our answer to enthusiasts looking for modern drivability and comfort in a classically cool vintage truck,” comments HIMALAYA President Greg Shondel. “Four years in the making, our new HUE 166 is a truck without sacrifices. This really is our company’s blueprint moving forward. The level of attention to detail and quality is always sky high for everything that we do, and this HUE 166 build really pushed us to perfect what a hand-built custom Defender has to be for our clients.”

The new HUE 166 custom signals a strategic shift from HIMALAYA to a decidedly more modern vehicle platform where only the classic styling of the exterior Defender body remains. Powered by a fiery new LT4 Corvette engine smoothly paired with an eight-speed transmission, the Grasmere Green Defender is the most refined truck to come off the line from the South Carolina-based builder yet. This reimagined HUE 166 incorporates a four-link coilover suspension, Dynatrac axles alongside a powerful Brembo disc brake set-up. The result is that HIMALAYA has produced the smoothest driving rendition of a classic Defender to date.

“HIMALAYA’s new suspension makes 650 horsepower feel very natural, which on a truck like the HUE 166 sounds ridiculous, but it’s a complete game changer,” continues Shondel. “From a suspension and drivetrain perspective, our new custom Defender platform is a big departure from our previous builds. Anyone who gets behind the wheel of the HUE 166 will instantly feel how effortless this truck is in terms of power, handling, and modern amenity.”

Modern additions from the HIMALAYA engineering team abound, including custom fender flares, rock sliders and power folding boards for easy vehicle entry/exit. Guided by a heavily modified Jeep power steering box, the new HIMALAYA HUE 166 can comfortable navigate nearly any terrain in its path. Incorporating dual air conditioning systems, a state-of-the-art audio system, and several other interior amenities, including a handstitched interior, HIMALAYA’s brand-new HUE 166 is its most elegant undertaking yet, and one that guarantees the comfort of driver and passengers alike.

Priced at $300,000, HIMALAYA will be commissioning similar builds to the new HUE 166 based off the company’s new modernized Defender platform. Made by a team of dedicated technicians and expert designers with decades of experience restoring and rebuilding Defenders from every era, HIMALAYA is excited about the new series of applications the company has perfected following four years of engineering and designing their latest Defender restmod.

“Keeping the heritage of the HUE 166 in mind, we really wanted to keep it as classic as possible and didn’t opt for any big winch packages or roof racks. Everything is classic in feel. We even designed the wheels to replicate the classic steel wheel look, but with Brembo disc brakes tucked underneath. The HUE 166 build is about introducing a classic Defender made for modern everyday driving,” continues Shondel. “Serviceability is probably the most important aspect of this truck. HIMALAYA Defenders have to be amazing to drive, but we also wanted them to be easy to manage for our clients for the next 10 years and beyond.”

  • HIMALAYA Introduces Spectre Defender as Tribute to World’s Most Famous Secret Agent

HIMALAYA Introduces Spectre Defender as Tribute to World’s Most Famous Secret Agent

    [source: HIMALAYA]

CHARLESTON, SC – Amazing movie vehicles capture the attention of viewers in a way that makes them stars in their own right, and the limited-edition Spectre Defender from Himalaya is no exception. The South Carolina bespoke Defender specialists decided to offer collectors a rare opportunity to own one of the most famous Defenders to ever appear in film with the new special-edition Spectre tribute truck. Based on the iconic 4×4 famously featured in the British secret agent’s latest adventures, the handmade Himalaya Spectre is priced at $250,000. (Himalaya’s custom builds start at $165,000 and range up to $250,000.)

“The Spectre Defender uses a rare Crew Cab pickup configuration,” says Himalaya President Greg Shondel. “Himalaya is able to create that very same layout using all-new body panels and frames sourced in England. After that process is complete, our team customizes the powertrain and interiors to the customers’ preferences, as with all of our other builds.”

Himalaya is somewhat unique in the custom-Defender world for combining British styling with American mechanicals. Each project begins with an all-new UK-sourced frame, which is reinforced and also galvanized to fend off corrosion. Himalaya replaces the stock 1961-designed Buick/Rover 182-horsepower 3.9L V-8 engine with modern power, a GM LS3 in this case. This gives the Spectre 525 horsepower for propelling the oversized 37-inch Toyo mud-terrain tires. The end result is a stylish truck that can step up to even the most daring of adventures on- or off-road. (Himalaya’s other engine options include the Cummins R2.8 turbodiesel and Whipple-supercharged LS3.)

Himalaya then integrates a GM 6-speed automatic transmission between the engine and Rover all-wheel-drive transfer case, which is rebuilt with upgraded components prior to installation. Similarly, the axles are factory housings with strengthened internals (the Spectre model pictured has open differentials). Because the mud tires weigh significantly more than the factory-sized rubber, Himalaya upgrades the brakes with larger Wilwood discs and is currently co-engineering a premium braking system with Brembo. Steering is bolstered with dependable Jeep Wrangler components.

Spectre suspension specifications are fortified as well. Himalaya engineers in four inches of ride-height lift to clear the 37-inch tires. Custom coil springs are inserted, and extended-length control arms are built in-house with articulating Johnny Joints from Currie Enterprises. Ride is controlled by Fox Racing remote-reservoir shocks (Himalaya plans to offer additional USA-sourced geartrain options in the near future).

The bodywork is where the Himalaya Spectre really excels. Because the company starts with an all-new frame that is precision-manufactured to be perfectly square, body-panel tolerances can be made significantly more consistent than original factory. Himalaya goes the extra step of designing and manufacturing their own handles, latches, and catches to exude the highest quality. Liberal amounts of Dynamat sound-deadening insulation and improved door sealing were also used to further assist in providing a more comfortable cabin experience.

The Spectre’s brawny tough exterior presents a slant-back effect, which was achieved with a Safety Devices exo-cage and Front Runner Vehicle Outfitters roof rack. Himalaya further accentuated the angle with a custom bed-mounted rack for the full-sized spare tire. Additional body protection is supplied by a front A-bar-style winch bumper over a Warn Zeon 10S winch, a radiator skidplate, Amp Research Power Step sideboards, and a rear bumper with receiver hitch that Himalaya customized starting with a Poison Spyder Jeep unit. High Beam Offroad exterior LED lighting was also added.

Inside, Himalaya used the factory Puma-level quilted-upholstery trim as an underlying influence. Ruskin leather is the predominate material, and Alcantara was used for the headliner. Other details include Recaro seats, Dakota Digital gauges, a Momo steering wheel, Exmoor interior LED lighting, and a Safety Devices rollcage. Himalaya also installed a premium entertainment system comprised of a Kenwood head unit and JL Audio speakers.

The Himalaya Spectre Edition Defender is just one example of the company’s capabilities. In addition to customer-spec’d bespoke Defenders, Himalaya also performs classic Rover restorations as well as resto-mod builds that are mostly factory-based but with a few strategic upgrades.
