It’s not hyperbole when we say the staff of Tailored Driver has been waiting 25 long years for the B5 generation RS 4 Avant to be importable, and while we’d need to hold off for another year for this MY2001 example, it just may be worth the wait. Now admittedly Santorin Blue is not at the top of our list, the simple fact that this was painted at the factory by a still incredibly under-the-radar Audi exclusive team should not go un-noticed. While we can speculate for what VIP thought Santorin usurped Nogaro, we’ll just be thankful that Audi’s Tailored division breathed on one of our all-time favorites. Expect more European-based Audi exclusive finds to grace the pages of Tailored Driver in the coming years.

EU Market Find: BMW Individual Atlantis Blue Metallic 520i Touring

While it’s easier to attain a Tailored Driver if your wallet is thick enough to require chiropractic intervention, we think it’s more fun when Tailored status is within reach of the everyman or woman. At €3,500 (about $3700 USD, plus shipping) this E39-generation 520i Touring painted in BMW Individual Atlantis Blue Metallic and paired with the frankly wild Boa Boa cloth interior and a timeless 5 speed manual transmission is exactly that- fun. Consider it more of a starting point though, as the 520i isn’t exactly going to win any awards in the speed department, and the rear hatch will challenge even the most recent of tetanus shots, but the point remains. Some elbow grease, maybe a different motor, and this could be a sub-$15,000 Cars and Coffee award winner.

EU Market Find: 1997 BMW 750i with BMW Individual Blue Leather

Perhaps one of the more interesting items featured on Tailored Driver, this short wheelbase E38 generation 750i is equal parts enticing and terrifying. Want luxury? The BMW Individual Blue interior on this E38 has no shortage of it, from the Lay-Z-Boy style front buckets, to the center console mounted telephone, and the certainly very out of date Navigation/Cassette player combo. Love internal combustion? Great- twelve cylinders mean fuel will combust internally quite often. Sure, reliability will be questionable even with a running tab at your local BMW specialist, but it’ll be guaranteed to get a reaction out of even the most casual of observers.

Europe in the 90’s, man. What a strange time. The kind of time, in fact, where a well-to-do professional would put down real money for a brand new 528i, opt for BMW Individual Velvet Blue Metallic (great!), and also check the box for whatever this two-tone blue and beige, umm, statement piece is. Then, we can only assume, the owner came-to from whatever they’d ingested, and simply never drove it. Having covered just 6,990 kilometers in the past 27 years, a lot of statements can be applied here, but we can all agree that those who saw this car likely never forgot it.

    VIN: Unknown

    Why we love it:

We’re big fans of the road less traveled here, that’s not exactly a secret. This Tailored Driver is exactly that- finished in Porsche’s Midnight Blue Metallic (rare), with 1992’s 911 C2 Cab Rest-of-World only Turbo Look body optioned (more rare) Leather to Sample in an unknown light blue (incredibly rare). Per the listing this Tailored Driver is one of just 1,532 C2s optioned with the factory widebody, and has spent the entirety of it’s life in Germany. Being a 1992 model year example, importation to the US should be a breeze using a reputable vendor like Orchid Euro.

  • EU Market Find: 1996 BMW Individual Madeira Violet Metallic 320i Convertible

EU Market Find: 1996 BMW Individual Madeira Violet Metallic 320i Convertible

    What: 1996 BMW 320i Convertible
Color: BMW Individual Madeira Violet Metallic (madeiraviolett; metallic uni; 302; BMW)
    VIN: Unknown
    Mileage: 172,000 kilometers

    CarFax: N/A
    Window Sticker: N/A
    Location: Dessau-Roßlau, Saxony-Anhalt, Germany
    Sales listing: Link

    Why we love it:

Differing ever so slightly from BMW’s Techno Violet, BMW Individual Madeira Violet Metallic is a visually stunning purple that can really play visual tricks depending on conditions. In some lighting, it almost appears to be BMW’s Cosmos Black due to the color’s blue and purple metallic flake. Whatever your interpretation of it, this BMW Individual Madeira Violet Metallic E36 ‘vert is the latest in European Market Finds that we feel represents good value for money, offering a way for the everyman or woman to dip their toe into the world of Tailored Driver. With the right importer like Orchid Euro, this could be landed, plated, and insured for well under $20,000.

  • Market Find: Sea Green BMW Individual 328i Convertible

Market Find: Sea Green BMW Individual 328i Convertible

To summarize a point often made during these early days of Tailored Driver– green is good. When paired with a price of entry that’s not completely out of most budgets, it’s even better. But for this one, you’ll need to bring a boat.

Finished in BMW Individual Sea Green Metallic (seagrün; metallic; 393; BMW) and paired with green leather seats and matching soft top, this BMW triples down on a good thing. While not the full ITB experience of a euro-market M3, this 328i sports the M appearance package and a manual transmission which will be a lot easier to maintain properly with parts easily found stateside.

At time of writing, this Tailored Driver has an asking price of €16,999 and is located in Hamburg, Germany. At current exchange rates, that’s about $18,750 plus shipping and handling.
