Market Find: 1978 RUF BTR in Oak Green Metallic

What: 1978 Porsche 911 Turbo RUF BTR
Color: Oak Green Metallic (oakgrünmetallic; metallic UNI; 265 / 22L / 60K; Porsche)
    VIN: 9308700670
    Mileage: 7,021
Price at Time of this Writing: $395,000

    Location: USA
    Dealer listing: Link

    Why we love it:

With 2024 being the anniversary of the 911 Turbo, the amount of forced induction elfers coming onto the market this year has been astounding. Now throw in Oak Green Metallic paint, the same color Dr. Ferry Porsche painted his personal 911 Turbo, and you already have a winner before we get to the fact that this is an early Turbo built by then fledgling RUF Automobile of Pfaffenhausen, Germany.

The Oak Green car you see here is a U.S. market 930 built to “Group B Turbo RUF” (BTR) specification. Equipment included this car included displacement punched out from 3.3-liters to 3.4-liters with twin-plug heads, a larger RUF intercooler, and a four-outlet exhaust system. Period RUF documentation estimates power from this and other modifications at 374-horsepower and 480 NM of torque.

Other modifications included RUF’s own 5-speed transmission (something Porsche wouldn’t give the 911 Turbo until 1989), Porsche 935-style Bilstein coilover suspension, 917-derived brakes, and 17-inch 5-spoke RUF wheels made by Speedline and similar to those also fitted on the famous Yellowbird.

The car has a great look, though is in original condition so features some wear as can be seen in these photos and even more, also explained in greater detail, via the link HERE.

    Why we love it:

When it comes to a proper four-season do it all car, Porsche’s Cayenne is a pretty unbeatable option. This particular Cayenne S has the added benefit of wearing Paint to Sample Dark Olive Metallic paint, an incredibly rare shade that’s equal parts black and green depending on the light, with a vibrant metallic shine that really pops. As an added bonus, this Tailored Driver also sports brown seat belts, deviated stitching and a Race-Tex steering wheel, which really get us excited. Criminally subtle in the shade and a true stunner in the sunshine, we love the spec.

    Why we love it:

If you really want to make us swoon, order your Tailored Driver in some variant of Green, and get the small wheels. This particular M5 follows that ethos- BMW Individual Oxford Green, small wheels, and two-tone seats in Black with Brown(ish) centers. The color, featured on a number of late 90s/early 2000s BMW vehicles, is perhaps best known for it’s use on the E39 M5, which sets the benchmark in many ways for sport sedans to this day. For those who want a stealthy performer that’s sure to turn heads, look no further.

    Why we love it:

Sonoma Green came seemingly out of nowhere when it was introduced for the B9 generation RS 5, and it made a big impact amongst enthusiasts, but due to a number of factors, the big brother RS 7 never was offered in the dynamic shade of Green. Thankfully Audi exclusive and at least one discerning Tailor was able to right this wrong. In this application, Sonoma simply looks incredible while not being overly flashy or appearing out of place. If you’re in the market, we highly suggest picking this up.

    Why we love it:

While not often thought as a Heritage color for BMW, British Racing Green had a fling with the brand in the ’90s, appearing on the E36 M3 GT and Z3 models. Nearly 30 years later, the color still looks the business on this M4 helping it to stand out in a subtle way. We also love that this M4 has been treated to a host of Dinan goodies (Coil Overs, Sway Bars and Intake), none of which fiddle with the ECU tune. On the inside, this Tailored Driver is optioned with extended leather and DCT transmission, making it a nice, comfortable place for commuting. We think it’s a great package.

    Why we love it:
There’s remastered, and then there’s a Porsche 959 SC reimagined by Canepa. The Group B homologated Porsche 959 is already the most forbidden of fruit and the most exotic of the exotic from the so-called “Rad” era. Now throw in a tailored rebuild that Bruce Canepa’s Northern California firm has been building over recent years and you have the makings of a perfect thing. And, did we mention Irish Green over Tobacco brown leather?

This car is so good, we’re going to include the full Broad Arrow description below. However, you should definitely check out more photos and, of course, call for the price if you are interested. It is a rare thing indeed when these cars come available in the market in any form, but particularly rare and exclusive when such a beautiful build as this from Canepa also makes a showing.

    BEGIN DESCRIPTION [Source: Broad Arrow]

In the early 1980s, Porsche was keen to prove its technological superiority learned throughout the previous decade’s racing efforts. The “Gruppe B” Study was created to display these advancements with development underway as soon as 1981. Turbocharging, first used on the 917/10 Can-Am racing car in 1972, made its way three years later to the first turbocharged road-going Porsche – the 1975 911 Turbo – and from it, to the 959. It was a similar story with engine cooling. Through its racing program, Porsche had reached a thermal limit with the air-cooled flat-six. Water-cooled heads appeared on the all-conquering Porsche 956 endurance racing prototype in 1982 and, just a few years later, the 959 was the beneficiary of these successful experiments. Height-adjustable suspension, “intelligent” all-wheel drive, tire pressure monitoring, ABS, composite body construction – all commonplace in today’s supercars – were decades ahead of their time when applied to the 959.

Fewer than 300 of these halo supercars were built by the end of the decade, with each example estimated to cost Porsche double its 420,000 DM price tag to produce. Faced with these substantial losses, Porsche did not see fit to modify and test the 959 to comply with NHTSA safety standards, and as a result, it was not road-legal in the United States. While a number of 959s slowly trickled into the U.S., the model was the prime example of the type of car petitioned by Canepa and others to include in the “Show or Display” rule, passed in August 1999. The rule allowed for the private importation and limited road use of certain vehicles deemed to meet a standard of “historical or technological significance,” famously enabling Bill Gates to drive his 959 after it was stored by the Customs Service for 13 years. In the decades since the rule was passed, Canepa’s ceaseless obsession with extracting as much performance as possible out of the 959 has culminated in a series of refinements and performance upgrades developed by Canepa for the standard Porsche 959, officially launched in 2015 as the “959 SC Reimagined by Canepa” program.

Drawing on his many years and thousands of miles driving the 959, Canepa developed a ground-up approach to reconditioning, and in some areas outright re-engineering, every element of Porsche’s already superb creation. Starting with only the most original examples, the talented team at Canepa’s Scotts Valley, California headquarters begin by carefully disassembling the entire car to the bare steel unibody. At this stage, all of the body panels are stripped, primed, and block sanded to perfection in preparation for paintwork. Canepa’s unrelenting attention to detail can be observed on the driver’s side quarter panel, where the auxiliary door for the hydraulic suspension oil on 959 Komfort models is deleted by molding a new composite body panel. Clients are able to choose from Porsche’s own factory Paint-to-Sample palette of over 150 unique shades, or to create a custom color of their choice. The virtually limitless personalization offered by Canepa’s service extends to the cabin, where over 400 hours are spent hand stitching an entirely new leather interior with countless colors and stitching options from Porsche’s own factory offerings. Swaths of leather trim every element of the interior – including components that were not originally upholstered from the factory – while numerous upgrades ensure a 21st century driving experience. These include Porsche’s Classic Radio Navigation system connected to an upgraded six-speaker system, LED cabin and gauge lighting, and a switch located on the center console to control the two-stage sport exhaust system.

While a one-of-a-kind appearance is being crafted by Canepa’s in-house paint and upholstery departments, over 4,000 individual mechanical components are inspected, refinished, rebuilt, or upgraded by technicians with over two decades of experience working with the Porsche 959. Quite literally nothing goes untouched, with every bolt, clamp, and fitting being stripped and replated in a variety of coatings such as zinc, anodizing, powder coating, and Teflon. Starting with the suspension, the 959 SC opts for the weight savings and simplicity of the coil-over spring and shock assembly found on the factory 959 Sport specification – thus eliminating the adjustable ride height and its related hydraulic system on Komfort models. In its place, the Canepa suspension upgrade employs custom-valved Penske shock absorbers with titanium coil-over springs for a one-inch lower ride height while still providing ample ground clearance for real world driving. All four corners also feature specially developed cryo-treated semi-floating brake rotors with upgraded brake pads for improved stopping power. Housing these improved brakes are 18-inch wheels custom-designed by Canepa in conjunction with Michelin to mirror the 18-inch wheels originally featured on the Gruppe B concept car. While radial tire technology in the 1980s forced Porsche to revert to a 17 inch wheel for production 959s, Canepa’s wheel upgrade allows 959 SC owners to take advantage of the grip and comfort offered by the modern tire technology while retaining the timeless look of the original 959.

Initially developed for Group B class homologation and tracing its lineage back to the powerplants in the 936, 956, and 962 sports prototypes, the 959’s 2.8-liter twin-turbocharged flat-six was designed to handle significantly more power than the 444 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque it left the factory with. After three decades spent optimizing the existing engine components as well as engineering new ones, the 959 SC’s flat-six now develops a staggering 800+ horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque with Canepa’s Stage III upgrades. These encompass Pankl titanium connecting rods, a blueprinted and upgraded valvetrain assembly, upgraded camshafts and camshaft housings, tungsten ceramic coated headers and two-stage stainless/titanium exhaust system, a MoTec engine management system and wiring harnesses, and two state-of-the-art BorgWarner turbochargers. The robust six-speed manual transmission is also treated to a full rebuild as well as REM isotropic super finishing on gears and shafts and an upgraded clutch assembly to ensure a reliable and extremely capable package. The result is otherworldly, modern-supercar performance, including zero to 60 miles per hour in 2.5 seconds and a top speed in excess of 230 miles per hour.

Limited to a mere 50 examples in total, only the most original, low-mileage candidates are considered for recommissioning to 959 SC specification. Chassis number 053, one of just 266 959 Komforts built, was ideal then, with less than 8,302 kilometers at the time of its disassembly. Originally finished in Polar Silver Metallic with a Dark Grey Metallic leather interior, this highly original, low-mileage 959 was submitted to Canepa in 2019 for its comprehensive transformation to 959 SC specification. After over 4,000 restoration hours it was completed four years later in 2022 and was given Canepa 959 SC serial number “009.” Invoices and photos of the comprehensive Canepa work are on file. Today, the Porsche is resplendent in the lightly modified version of the Porsche factory shade of Irish Green, noted by the consignor as “Irish Green Plus,” containing less yellow than the standard shade. The paint to sample exterior color is protected with full ceramic coated paint protection file (PPF). The exceptional exterior color choice is accentuated by the proprietary gun-metal grey finish of its 18 inch wheels. Inside, the cabin is trimmed wall-to-wall in exquisite bespoke tobacco brown leather and matching cut-pile velour carpeting, further complemented by matching, custom-embossed tool pouches and owner’s books covers. Now fitted with instrumentation in miles, the odometer displays just 2,130 total miles since reimagining at the time of cataloging.

This Porsche 959 SC Reimagined by Canepa presents the rare opportunity to acquire one of the most exclusive and earth-shattering supercars of the 1980s – so advanced that other manufacturers continue to view it as the benchmark for technology, engineering, and performance decades after production ceased. Rarer still is the chance to experience the full potential of the 959 platform achieved through decades of research and development to bring the legendary model into the 21st century.

Crewe, England – Bentley Motors is proud to have delivered a fleet of four personalised Bentayga EWB Azure SUVs to The Peninsula Hong Kong, the Flagship of The Peninsula Hotels that opened in 1928. Following the arrival of four bespoke Bentayga Hybrid’s at The Peninsula London earlier this year, the original and founding Peninsula hotel has chosen to bolster its fleet of chauffeur-driven house cars to include the extended-wheelbase Bentayga, which offers a larger cabin than any other luxury competitor.

The four cars were specified by The Peninsula in conjunction with the Design team in Mulliner, Bentley’s in-house bespoke and coachbuilding division. The designs make the cars instantly recognisable as Peninsula vehicles, while showcasing the exquisite handcrafted quality provided by Bentley’s craftspeople and artisans at its Dream Factory in Crewe, England.

Starting with the wellness-focused Azure specification for maximum onboard comfort, the team specified the unique exterior shade of Peninsula Green, mastered from sample by Bentley’s Paint Shop. The rich, dark green extends to painted brightware to the lower body and the matrix grilles in the lower bumper apertures, bringing a clean, modern, colour-blocked look. The dark tone is offset by a two-piece coachline in the golden tone of Honey, with the two lines tracing the power line and haunch of the Bentayga EWB’s side profile. The front doors then feature The Hong Kong and Shanghai Hotels, Limited emblem, the parent company of The Peninsula Hong Kong and owner and operator of The Peninsula Hotels

The 4+1 configuration interior is a modern interpretation of classic Bentley themes. The majority of the cabin is trimmed in Saddle leather, with contrast Beluga leather being used atop the door waistrails, across the top of the dashboard and for the steering wheel. The warm tones of Burr Walnut pair the two leather colours perfectly, used across the dash fascias, along the waistrails and to a pair of veneered picnic tables to the backs of the front seats.

Embroidered Bentley emblems in Saddle are added to all four seats, and the cars feature Mood Lighting and Rear Seat Entertainment – allowing rear cabin occupants to work, browse the internet or stream content on the move.

Final Mulliner touches include bespoke towel bins and tissue boxes fitted to the rear door pockets, additional USB charging sockets in the rear cabin, 70mm metal signage in the rear armrests, picnic tables, front seat backs and headlining, and bespoke ‘THE PENINSULA” illuminated treadplates.

The four cars commenced service in late November 2024 as part of The Peninsula Hong Kong’s immaculate chauffeur service.

Dr. Frank-Steffen Walliser, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Bentley Motors commented, “On behalf of Bentley Motors, it was a pleasure to present these four magnificent bespoke Bentaygas to The Hon. Sir Michael Kadoorie and The Peninsula Hong Kong. The team of artisans at our Dream Factory in Crewe, England, which individually handcrafted and personalised these cars are rightly proud of the end result, and we are delighted that The Peninsula Hotels continues to adopt Bentleys into their chauffeur fleets.”

European Market Find: Mystery Blue 1999 Mercedes-Benz E 55 AMG Avantgarde Wagon

    What: 1999 Mercedes-Benz E 55 AMG Station Wagon

    Why we love it:

Hear us out. Yes, we know the E 55 AMG Station Wagon was sold in the United States. They’re exceedingly rare, especially in solid survivor condition, but they were sold here. Still, anyone who loves these cars or is seeking a unique long roof may find this one worth going through the extra effort of importation. That it’s old enough for easy import is one obvious reason, but more so is the unique build specification this car got from the factory. This sort of specification would have been extremely difficult if not impossible for anyone in North America to order, so it’s worth noting… even if it does have a dash of turn-of-the-century Y2K kitsch in the color choices.

Regarding the color, it’s a bit of a puzzle. It’s listed as “green” and 027 Designo-LCP paintwork, then later in the thorough option code listing we see Z98 PAINT FINISHES OUTSIDE THE SAMPLE CARD. So, we know it’s special paint, but we don’t know what color as “027” is effectively ambulance white in the lexicon of Mercedes-Benz color codes.

Looking over the photos, the color almost appears to be a predominantly blue metallic that fades to green from certain angles or in certain lighting conditions. So, we’re not even sure if it’s blue or green. Maybe it’s both.

Inside, the car has a period “Avantgarde” interior package, which is typically two-tone leather with segments of the seats in some more bold color. In this case, that color is green that would have been popular in the late 1990s when this car was produced. It’s not a timeless shade of green, but it definitely puts you in the period and plays on the theme.

We’re going to go ahead and list the listing description and options (translated to English with Google Translate) for reference here. We found them all in the car’s listing over on AutoScout24.

Aimé Leon Dore‘s custom Porsche 993 Turbo Pays Homage to New York

The New York-based fashion and lifestyle brand Aimé Leon Dore (ALD) unveils the bespoke Porsche 993 Turbo – the fifth classic model restored in its long-standing partnership with Porsche.

    [source: Porsche AG]

Renowned for its unparalleled engineering and timeless design, the Porsche 993 Turbo is hailed as one of the greatest sports cars in history. It combines the final iteration of the air-cooled engines with a powerful twin-turbo powertrain that set a new standard for performance, handling, and durability. Aimé Leon Dore’s restoration goes beyond aesthetics, delivering both a visual and technical revival of the celebrated classic.

Porsche 993 Turbo by Aimé Leon Dore

During an intensive development process, for a sportier look, elements from the 993 Turbo S were incorporated, including the iconic Turbo S spoiler, which provides both a visual enhancement and increased downforce. Additionally, the 993 Turbo S Exhaust and Front Splitter were fitted to improve aerodynamics, elevating the car’s performance and aggressive front-end design.

The 18-inch Porsche Turbo Twist rims were finished in Mulberry Green to match the exterior, highlighted with a gold accent encircling the rims. Michelin, Porsche’s trusted tire partner known for outfitting the seven-time title-winning Porsche 963, provided 18″ Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 tires specifically for the 993 Turbo.

It’s great to see the latest installment of our partnership with Aimé Leon Dore”, says Deniz Keskin, Director Brand Management and Partnerships at Porsche AG. “The 993 is an iconic member of the 911 family and dream car for so many enthusiasts all around the world. ALD’s take is a wonderful way of contributing to that enduring legacy.”

Aimé Leon Dore’s refined design language extends to the interior, featuring dark brown leather, lambswool accents, and hardback seats. The seat backrests are painted in Mulberry Green, echoing the car’s exterior. Dark brown carpets, floor mats, seats, and instrument cluster were selected for a cohesive, monochromatic look. The steering wheel and headrests display a custom Aimé Leon Dore and Porsche logo, highlighting the long-standing partnership between the two brands. A custom brass Unisphere gear knob brings a distinctive and personal touch to the interior. The door sills also feature the inscription “A team from outta Queens with the American dream,” a nod to the brand’s roots and the inspiration behind Aimé Leon Dore’s brand.

Exclusive capsule collection with Porsche Design

Inspired by the exclusive Mulberry Green Porsche 993 Turbo, the capsule collection features a range of apparel and accessories, including the long-awaited Leather Club Jacket.

“It has been a refreshing experience to work on this capsule with the ALD team”, says Nicola Ader, Director Marketing & PR Porsche Lifestyle Group. “The result is the perfect match for the car and a great way for both communities around the world to become part of this project.”

The capsule collection will be available on November 22nd both in-store and online at Aimé Leon Dore.

For the first time, Porsche Design of America will also offer a select range from the limited-edition capsule, available exclusively on the West Coast at the Porsche Design Store in Beverly Hills.
