The New Mercedes-Maybach SL Monogram Series

    • Sporty two-seater for the ultimate open-air experience
    • Exquisite aesthetics with two curated design concepts: Red Ambience and White Ambience
    • Excellent ride and acoustic comfort for a driving experience at Maybach level

Mercedes-Maybach is expanding its product portfolio with a fourth model – the new Mercedes‑Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series (combined energy consumption: 13.6 l/100 km; combined COemissions: 309 g/km; COclass: G)[1] is the sportiest model in the brand’s history to date. The open-top two-seater interprets the iconic silhouette of the SL in an extraordinary way. Athletic proportions merge with exquisite aesthetics and maximum comfort. The Mercedes‑Maybach SL opens up a whole new world of cruising in the open air. It combines a dynamic driving experience with everything that characterises a Mercedes‑Maybach: skilled craftsmanship, high-quality materials and exquisite design details. In line with the brand philosophy, it offers a holistic, sensual experience. The market launch in Europe has already begun with other markets to follow successively.

The Mercedes-Maybach SL is an extraordinary combination of beauty and sportiness. This is notably expressed by the two curated design concepts: “White Ambience” presents itself in a new interpretation of the typical Maybach two-colour paintwork with obsidian black metallic in the upper section of the vehicle and MANUFAKTUR opalite white magno in the lower section. In “Red Ambience,” obsidian black metallic contrasts elegantly with MANUFAKTUR garnet red metallic. Developed for the first time for the new Mercedes‑Maybach two-seater, this tinted clearcoat is characterised by its vibrant, rich colour and a special depth effect.

The interior conveys a special feeling of lightness and space. The extensive use of crystal white, sustainably tanned MANUFAKTUR Exclusive Nappa leather creates an airy, elegant ambience. It not only enhances the seats in their new, floral design but also the door panels, the centre console and the space behind the seats. This creates a generous feeling of roominess and, at the same time, the typical Maybach cocooning effect. The galvanised seat backrests and trim parts in silver chrome provide a glamorous contrast. The elaborate upholstery of the seat surface and backrest, typical of the brand, ensures maximum seating comfort. The seat side panels are lowered for easy entry and exit.

Individual expressiveness with over 50 MANUFAKTUR colours

In addition to the two curated colour concepts, more than 50 other MANUFAKTUR paint colours are available on request. The colour palette is inspired by the tones of precious stones, minerals or natural phenomena such as Côte d’Azur Blue, as well as current colour trends from fashion, architecture and design. This also includes newly interpreted classic hues from the historical paint archives of Mercedes‑Benz and Maybach.

Exterior design typical of the brand, with added sporty character

The open-top two-seater is the first Maybach model in which the brand-specific, chrome-finished radiator grille, with its fine vertical slats, has an A-shape contour. In typical sports-car fashion, it shifts the visual centre of gravity far downwards. The contour of the radiator grille is illuminated, as is the delicately integrated Maybach lettering. The front apron, with its horizontal air intakes and striking chrome trim, additionally emphasises the sporty character of the Maybach SL. The windscreen frame is also finished in gleaming chrome. The distinctive, characterful “face” is rounded off by a rose gold accent in the headlights and the dedicated bonnet with upright Mercedes star and a chrome-plated longitudinal fin.

The rear of the vehicle is characterised by the taillights featuring the Maybach logo. It has a brand-specific rear apron with chrome trim and a dedicated diffuser design. The brand-typical tailpipe trim, with a horizontal bar, rounds off the elegant appearance. Behind the seats, an aerodynamically designed double scoop reinforces the unique appearance. The chrome fin on the bonnet and the chrome insert in the side member trim give the two-seater an elegant touch. Added to this are the 21-inch forged wheels, which are available in a five-hole or multi-spoke design. This gives the two-seater an elegant and sporty side view, especially when the soft top is open. The acoustic-comfort soft top consists of a fabric in a light black colour with a discreetly integrated, anthracite-coloured Maybach pattern.

Bonnet with integrated Maybach pattern using the innovative PixelPaint process

To further enhance exclusivity, the bonnet in obsidian black metallic is available on request with an integrated Maybach pattern in graphite grey uni. The production of this printed bonnet is very complex and is partly carried out by hand. Each step of the process is subject to complex technical requirements and demands the highest precision in execution. First, the bonnet receives a base coat and an initial clear coat, which is then sanded by hand. It is then printed with the Maybach pattern using the new PixelPaint process. The bonnet is then coated twice more with clearcoat and sanded by hand until the final clearcoat finish is applied. The four coats of clear lacquer and three sanded coats give the Maybach pattern an extraordinary depth effect. Each layer of clear lacquer is sanded by hand, which takes several hours and requires precise craftsmanship.

The bonnet of the Mercedes‑Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series marks the premiere of the innovative and sustainable PixelPaint painting process at the Sindelfingen site. Inspired by an inkjet printer, this painting technology enables customised patterns and designs to be applied directly to the bodywork with incredible precision. The print head has more than 1,000 nozzles, each of which can be controlled individually. They can apply drops of paint at a microscopic size of 20 to 50 microns at a speed of over 1,000 drops per second. The extremely precise colour application means that no spray mist is produced. Labour-intensive masking and multiple passes for painting are no longer necessary, resulting in fewer waste products and lower emissions.

High acoustic comfort for relaxed driving pleasure

The highest standards also apply to driving and acoustic comfort. The Mercedes‑Maybach SL offers a unique driving experience that combines the tranquillity and power typical of the brand. Comprehensive insulation measures reduce road noise. Acoustic fleeces, aluminium butyl surfaces and acoustic foams are used, among other things. The sonorously restrained sound is also typical of Maybach. The noise-optimised exhaust system is equipped with the maximum possible proportion of insulating materials. The muffler makes the Mercedes‑Maybach SL even quieter thanks to innovative inlays made of recyclable fibreglass textile.

Excellent driving dynamics with eight-cylinder temperament and supreme comfort

With the Mercedes‑Maybach SL, every journey becomes an unforgettable experience. Agile and powerful, the open-top two-seater is ideally prepared for both relaxed cruising and sporty driving. It offers a high level of Maybach comfort combined with the sophisticated driving dynamics of an SL. The suspension, with its semi-active, hydraulic roll stabilisation, forms the basis. Hydraulic elements replace conventional mechanical anti-roll bars and compensate for body roll movements in fractions of a second. The system enables maximum ride comfort in different cornering radii, when travelling straight ahead and when driving over bumps. Maybach-specific valves for the damper hydraulics and softer steel springs also allow the suspension to respond even more sensitively. Unevenness is gently absorbed. New front-axle head bearings, the overall modified elastokinematics and comfortable Pirelli P Zero tyres also contribute to the high level of ride comfort.

The four driving programmes Comfort, Maybach, Sport and Individual support a wide range of driving experiences. The softened accelerator pedal characteristics in the Comfort and Maybach programmes make the response to driving commands smoother and more refined.

The combination of a 4.0‑litre biturbo engine with 430 kW (585 hp) output and smooth-shifting 9G‑TRONIC automatic transmission ensures dynamic driving pleasure at the Maybach level. Fully variable 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive and an electronically controlled rear-axle locking differential offer excellent traction even in slippery road conditions, thereby increasing driving safety. Standard rear-axle steering combines agility and stability for a manoeuvrable and safe driving experience. The Mercedes‑Maybach SL handles curves with impressive precision.

Exclusive collection from MAYBACH Icons of Luxury

To match the new Mercedes-Maybach SL Monogram Series, MAYBACH Icons of Luxury is offering a collection in boutiques as well as the online store. The design is inspired by the materials and colours of the open-top two-seater. The collection includes a leather jacket, sneakers, a scarf, a shopper bag and a dog carrier.

Stuttgart/Pebble Beach.  The Mercedes‑Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series (provisional figures, combined energy consumption: 13.7 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 312 g/km; CO2 class: G)[1] is the sportiest model in the Maybach brand’s history. Also new is the uniquely cohesive combination of colours and materials for the exterior and interior, with the Maybach pattern as a linking design element. These special accents appear throughout, from front to rear, inside and out. There will be two curated design concepts for the open-top two-seater at market launch: The Mercedes‑Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series Red Ambience is characterised by a new two-tone paint finish of obsidian black metallic over MANUFAKTUR garnet red metallic. In the Mercedes‑Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series White Ambience, obsidian black metallic contrasts with MANUFAKTUR opalite white magno. The exceptionally brilliant red and the elegant white both embody sensuality, beauty and lightness. They perfectly express the philosophy and driving experience of the new model. Other exterior colours are possible upon specific customer request. The interior features sustainably tanned, crystal white MANUFAKTUR Exclusive nappa leather and trim parts in gleaming silver chrome. Market rollout starts in Europe in spring 2025, with other markets to follow.

“Our customers love something special. The Mercedes‑Maybach SL Monogram Series adds a sporty two-seater to our model family for the ultimate open-air pleasure. It combines a dynamic driving experience with everything that characterises a Mercedes-Maybach: excellent craftsmanship, exquisite design details and fine materials.” – Daniel Lescow, Head of Mercedes-Maybach, Mercedes-Benz Group AG

Iconic design refined with exclusive Maybach styling elements and double scoop
In keeping with the brand philosophy, the Mercedes-Maybach SL offers a holistic sensory experience. The contours of the brand-specific, chrome-finished radiator grille are illuminated, as is the finely integrated MAYBACH lettering. The distinctive bonnet bears an upright Mercedes star and a chromed fin running front to rear along its centre. To further enhance the exclusivity, the obsidian black bonnet is available upon request with the Maybach pattern incorporated in graphite grey uni. This process is very complex and is partly done by hand. First, the bonnet receives a base coat, which is then sanded by hand. The Maybach pattern is then printed onto it. Each part of the process is technically sophisticated and must be executed with the utmost precision. Next, the bonnet is coated with clear matte lacquer, sanded by hand and finally finished with a further coat of clear matte lacquer.

The inside of the headlights is finished with high-quality accenting in rose gold. The dedicated front skirt emphasises the vehicle’s width with horizontal air intakes. The windscreen frame is finished in gleaming chrome. A further chrome insert graces the sill cladding. The Mercedes‑Maybach SL runs on 21-inch forged wheels in 5-hole design or multi-spoke design.

The extensively insulated acoustic soft top consists of light black fabric, with the Maybach pattern subtly incorporated in anthracite. The rear is characterised by rear lights with the Maybach signet, a brand-specific rear skirt with chrome trim, a dedicated diffuser design and tailpipe trims with a signature horizontal bar. Behind the seats, an aerodynamically designed double scoop reinforces the individual look. Together with the chrome fin on the bonnet, it gives the two-seater particularly elegant and sporty proportions when viewed from the side, especially with the top down.

Interior features Maybach-specific equipment and radiant, crystal white leather
Inside, sustainably tanned, crystal white nappa leather creates an exceptionally exquisite ambience. It features on the door panels, the centre console and on the brand’s signature comfort seats. The seat upholstery has a new floral design. The space behind the seats is also finished in white leather. The galvanised seat backrests and silver chrome trim provide a striking contrast.

The fully digital instrument display and the electrically adjustable centre display incorporate the Maybach-specific start-up animations and display styles. Further brand hallmarks are the steering wheel, the stainless-steel pedals and the stainless-steel door sill trims.

High level of driving and acoustic comfort combined with superior eight-cylinder driving experience
The highest standards also apply to driving and acoustic comfort. Comprehensive measures guarantee a quiet and comfortable, typically Maybach, driving experience. These include a noise-optimised exhaust system, an extensive insulation and absorption package as well as a comfort-oriented suspension set-up and soft engine mounts. The combination of a 4.0-litre biturbo engine with 430 kW (585 hp) and smooth-shifting 9G‑TRONIC automatic transmission with adapted accelerator pedal characteristics ensures the supremely dynamic driving pleasure expected of a Maybach. The fully variable 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive offers high traction even in slippery road conditions, thus increasing driving safety. The standard-fit rear-axle steering combines agility and stability for a manoeuvrable and safe driving experience.

Exclusive collection from Maybach Icons of Luxury
As befitting the new Mercedes‑Maybach SL Monogram Series, Maybach Icons of Luxury will offer a curated collection in boutiques and the online store from market launch. This includes a leather jacket, sneakers, a scarf, a tote bag and a dog bag. Their design is inspired by the materials and colours of the open-top two-seater.

Stuttgart/Flensburg. The love of unique craftsmanship, clear aesthetics and timeless elegance unites Mercedes‑Maybach and the silver and yacht manufacturers Robbe & Berking. They share the ambition to design individualised products for connoisseurs of the extraordinary. To mark the 150th anniversary of the Flensburg silver manufactory, Mercedes-Maybach has created an exclusively refined S-Class model. Its design is based on the legendary SPHINX 12mR yacht, which was built in 1939 and became known as the “night-blue beauty” in the history of sailing yachts. It was the first classic wooden yacht that Robbe & Berking restored. This gave rise to the company’s yacht shipyard, Robbe & Berking Classics, in 2008. The Mercedes-Maybach S 680 (combined energy consumption: 14.2-13.2 l/100 km | combined CO2 emissions: 323-300 g/km | CO2 class: G)[1] anniversary vehicle has the same colour scheme as the SPHINX: a two-tone paint finish consisting of nautical blue metallic in the upper section and MANUFAKTUR patagonia red bright in the lower section of the bodywork. They are separated by a filigree pinstripe in MANUFAKTUR opalite white metallic to match the yacht’s white waterline.

“Like the yacht SPHINX, our exclusive Mercedes-Maybach S-Class anniversary vehicle epitomises craftsmanship, elegance and attention to detail. We congratulate Robbe & Berking on their anniversary and look forward to continuing our successful collaboration.”
Daniel Lescow, Head of Mercedes-Maybach, Mercedes-Benz Group AG

“This wonderful anniversary vehicle is another sign of the friendship that has long connected Maybach and Robbe & Berking. We are also united by shared passions: Craftsmanship, the finest materials and timelessly beautiful lines – on the road as well as on the water and on the table.”
Oliver Berking, Managing Director of Robbe & Berking GmbH

Interior in crystal white nappa leather with orion grey topstitching and wood trim with aluminium decorative strips
The interior of the one-off Mercedes-Maybach S-Class shines in Maybach MANUFAKTUR Exclusive nappa leather in crystal white with diamond quilting. The seats, headliner, door centre panels and storage compartment under the central display are upholstered in this fine material. Orion grey decorative stitching stands out against the white leather in selected areas – an analogy to a sail. Another elegant contrast is created by the exclusive wood walnut trim with light-coloured aluminium trim strips. They echo the look of a ship’s deck. The nappa leather cushions in the rear are also customised. The smooth, triangular side surface in silver grey pearl contrasts with the crystal white leather with diamond topstitching in orion grey and MAYBACH embossing. The design of the cushions is rounded off by piping in silver grey pearl nappa leather.

Other equipment highlights for ultimate comfort include electric comfort doors at the rear, MANUFAKTUR door sill trims with red illuminated MAYBACH lettering and the Burmester® high-end 4D surround sound system. Also on board are the MBUX high-end rear-seat entertainment system and a cooling compartment with two silver-plated champagne goblets from Robbe & Berking. Since 2002, the goblets from the silver manufacturer founded in 1874 have lent the Mercedes-Maybach models a special lustre. They are available on request and are becoming increasingly popular with customers. This exclusive Mercedes-Maybach S-Class has already been reserved for a customer and is therefore no longer available for sale.

Legendary SPHINX racing yacht restored according to original plans
The SPHINX belongs to the famous “12 Metre R class” (12mR yacht). The large and elegant yachts in this class were built from 1907 to 1987 and, as the premier class of sailing, sailed for the America’s Cup from 1958 to 1987. They are the epitome of the classic yacht and the dream of every sailing enthusiast. However, they are significantly longer than 12 metres. The “12 Metre” designation is the result of the legendary “International Rule”, which the major sailing nations agreed on in 1906 for the construction of racing yachts.

The 21.48-metre-long SPHINX was built in 1939 by the Abeking & Rasmussen boatyard as a club ship for the North German Regatta Association (NRV) in Hamburg. She was the last of a series of ten 12-metre boats to be launched. She later changed hands several times and sailed under different names. For example, she served the German Navy under the name “Ostwind” from 1958 to 2004 as a training ship for officer candidates. Among other honours, she won the Blue Riband for the fastest yacht on the Flensburg Fjord nine times. In 2005, the passionate sailor Oliver Berking bought her together with two friends. With attention to detail and great passion, they restored the racing yacht according to the original plans. Under her original name SPHINX, they made the classic wooden yacht accessible to the sailing world again. In 2008, Oliver Berking founded the Robbe & Berking Classics yacht shipyard in Flensburg’s city harbour in order to preserve and continue to use the expertise gained. This shipyard has developed into a globally sought-after specialist for the restoration of classic sailing yachts and the construction of faithful replicas of lost classic boats.

Mercedes‑Maybach, the luxury legend that keeps reinventing itself, is embarking on the next chapter of its historic journey with the Maybach Atelier. In keeping with the brand’s sophisticated yet progressive design, the Ateliers will offer: salons privés for more private conversations and meetings in an exclusive setting, physical and digital art programmes, 3D haptic configuration and a new concept for digital installations. And of course, you will be able to purchase a car, expertly guided by Maybach consultants.

On October 21, 2022, the world’s first Maybach Atelier opened in Shanghai – a city bursting with creativity and inspiration – in the heart of the metropolis, located at No. 558 at the Bund Finance Center. The exclusive opening event was themed ‘Heritage with Innovation’. Investors, artists and high-end customers were invited to experience the brand’s core elements in connection with contemporary Chinese ‘rites’ such as the Arts, music and culture.

An Art Exhibition, which opened officially at the Shanghai Fosun Art Center, was curated to express the Mercedes‑Maybach brand and MANUFAKTUR label – to unite creators and connaisseurs in redefining the boundaries of culture. The Exhibition saw Maybach collaborate with three Chinese artists on individual installations that spanned the mediums of paper cutouts, ink graffiti and immersive digital. Three highlight cars were presented over the course of the event, they were: the Project MAYBACH show car, Mercedes‑Maybach S 680 by Virgil Abloh (WLTP combined fuel consumption: 14.3‑13.4 l/100 km | combined CO₂ emissions: 326‑304 g/km)[1], and a Mercedes‑Maybach S 680 MANUFAKTUR (WLTP combined fuel consumption: 14.3‑13.4 l/100 km | combined CO₂ emissions: 326‑304 g/km)1. Equipped with the

The Shanghai Atelier is merely the beginning, as more Maybach Ateliers and other brand dedicated retail formats will open around the world over the coming years through to 2030. In tandem with the Atelier launches, sales channels and concepts will evolve to embody the true personality of Mercedes‑Maybach and create further awareness for the brand within the Mercedes‑Benz portfolio.
