While it’s not “refrigerator white”, Porsche Grand Prix white is still just white. That’s not a bad thing, but it’s hardly qualifies as “tailored”. A Paint to Sample oddball this car is not, however… look inside.

Okay, sure. So you’re familiar with Porsche’s discotastic hippie checkered flag mashup fabric pattern known as Pasha. It was a factory option, so here again… rare but worth featuring? If paired with green leatherette then we’d say yes.

Find another one. We dare you. Also, this car wins the late 1970s in our opinion. If you don’t agree. Fight us.

  • EU Market Find: Cypress Green Mercedes 280 CE Coupe with Period Lorinser and Zender Upgrades

EU Market Find: Cypress Green Mercedes 280 CE Coupe with Period Lorinser and Zender Upgrades

    What: 1978 Mercedes-Benz 280 CE Coupe
Color: Cypress Green (zypressengrün; metallic UNI; 876; Mercedes-Benz)
    Chassis Number: N/A
    Mileage: 222,000 km, 137,944 miles
Price at Time of this Writing: €18,990
    CarFax: N/A
    Window Sticker: N/A
    Location: Autozentrum Frankenthal, Frankenthal, Germany
    Dealer listing: Link

    Why we love it:

Nowadays, the W123-generation Mercedes Benz 280 CE is a pretty rare thing. Built in a day when nomenclature and badging actually stood for something, the 280 CE is an E-class Coupe (a.k.a. “CE”) with a 2.8-liter V6 (i.e. 280).

This one is Cypress Green metallic, making it a rare spec but neither a custom build from the factory nor a special limited edition factory model. Hawk-eyed viewers of our “tailored driver” qualification rules may call foul here as a result, but we’re also keen on occasionally listing the very tasteful and/or very rare specifications that may have been off the factory standard option list, but are nevertheless still both rare and sought-after. We think this car qualifies.

In the tailored car collector space, sometimes points are also deducted for modifications. Here again, we tend to give leeway for modifications from iconic aftermarket brands that are period correct. In this case, that includes wheels from longtime Mercedes tuning house Lorinser, a wooden steering wheel from Raid and color-matched bumper covers / body kit from 80s European car accessories house Zender. While these changes may boot this car out of a hallowed space at a Mercedes-Benz factory museum, we suspect they’d definitely earn you street credit at the local cars and coffee.

This is one of our Euro market finds, so the usual caveats apply for our primarily North American readership. For Europe and other markets, we focus on cars older than 25 years, meaning a relatively easy import into the USA. This is often done by working with firms such as our friends at Orchid Euro, you can have the car purchased, transported to port, shipped to America and cleared through customs for clients seeking this sort of service.

  • Market Find: 1978 RUF BTR in Oak Green Metallic

Market Find: 1978 RUF BTR in Oak Green Metallic

What: 1978 Porsche 911 Turbo RUF BTR
Color: Oak Green Metallic (oakgrünmetallic; metallic UNI; 265 / 22L / 60K; Porsche)
    VIN: 9308700670
    Mileage: 7,021

    Why we love it:

With 2024 being the anniversary of the 911 Turbo, the amount of forced induction elfers coming onto the market this year has been astounding. Now throw in Oak Green Metallic paint, the same color Dr. Ferry Porsche painted his personal 911 Turbo, and you already have a winner before we get to the fact that this is an early Turbo built by then fledgling RUF Automobile of Pfaffenhausen, Germany.

The Oak Green car you see here is a U.S. market 930 built to “Group B Turbo RUF” (BTR) specification. Equipment included this car included displacement punched out from 3.3-liters to 3.4-liters with twin-plug heads, a larger RUF intercooler, and a four-outlet exhaust system. Period RUF documentation estimates power from this and other modifications at 374-horsepower and 480 NM of torque.

Other modifications included RUF’s own 5-speed transmission (something Porsche wouldn’t give the 911 Turbo until 1989), Porsche 935-style Bilstein coilover suspension, 917-derived brakes, and 17-inch 5-spoke RUF wheels made by Speedline and similar to those also fitted on the famous Yellowbird.

The car has a great look, though is in original condition so features some wear as can be seen in these photos and even more, also explained in greater detail, via the link HERE.
