What: 1991 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 Color: Apricot Beige (apricotbeige; non-metallic uni; 548; Porsche) VIN: unknown Mileage: 135,534 miles Price: $150,000 CarFax: N/A Window Sticker: N/A Location: Private Party, New York, NY Dealer listing:Link
Spoiler alert: this car is a respray. It was originally Grand Prix White over tan, meaning both the interior and exterior have experienced a color change. That said, it appears that no expense was likely spared in making it happen, while whomever did the work appears to have faithfully recreated the Porsche without taking liberties so as to make it look as if it could have been a period Paint to Sample. That’s both pretty cool and pretty rare.
We also like that it’s tone on tone. After having spent some years street parked in Manhattan, this car went in for a color change where the owner wanted the “creamiest” 964 ever. The color is period correct Apricot Beige, offered on the Porsche 928 and 911 from 1989-1990. And since beige wasn’t exactly in fashion in that period, the install rate was practically nonexistent. For the owner then, that made it near perfect for his needs – OEM, obscure and period correct.
While they were at it, they also redid the interior in a tone-on-tone match, replacing the factory tan leather with a lighter creamy beige leather. Some Alcantara was also used, which isn’t exactly period correct on a Porsche 964 but you’d likely need to be a super nerd to know that.
At $150K, this car is more expensive than the equivalent 1991 911 Carrera 2, though probably not far off from what a rare and well kept equivalent in paint to sample finish and Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur special interior. If these colors work for you or you’re seeking a 964-era 911 that’s super unique and that you won’t have to feel guilty logging miles driving then it’s probably worth the investment.
What: 1991 Porsche 911 Carrera 2 Targa Color: Oak Green Metallic (oakgrünmetallic; metallic Uni; 22L / 265; Porsche) VIN: N/A Mileage: 97,006 km, 60,276 miles Price: € 129,900 CarFax: N/A Window Sticker: N/A Location: Sint-Martens-Latem, Belgium Link: Garage Vandenberghe
While the Porsche 911 964 generation was definitely sold in the United States, the last of the primarily hand built and upright headlight air-cooled 911s has become a rare and valuable commodity thanks to the likes of Singer and RWB conversions. Given that, seeking out cars in Europe can not only net more selection, it can also pay a bonus with rare specifications most American buyers weren’t likely to order. We think this green-on-green 1991 911 Carrera 2 Targa qualifies.
This Belgian-delivered Targa is painted Oak Green Metallic, listed as a Paint to Sample by the dealer. While we know Oak Green was available during the 964 production run at times, we’re not certain about its availability for the Belgian market in 1991 specifically. Regardless, it’s a rare and attractive color on a 964, and that’s made even more appealing and rare with the unexpected interior specification.
Primarily, the interior specification is most unforgettable thanks to its extremely rare Sherwood Green Leather – optional in Europe, but a rare find to be sure. Other options for this car include English labeling, headlight washers, standard bolster electrically operated seats for both driver and passenger, cassette and coin holder, power antenna and speakers, no amplifier, no airbag, lighting regulation, split rear seat backrest, and velours carpet in trunk.
You’ll note the same green finish on elements such as the no-airbag steering wheel and shiftknob. Here, in these high touchpoint locations, the green is starting to wear off. These pieces are unobtainium and the car is likely worth more with them still unrestored and in the car, but they’re worth noting.
The price on this car isn’t especially low for a 964 Targa, but the mileage is also quite low and the specification is highly unique.
What: 1991 Porsche 911 DLS “Oppenheimer Commission” by Singer Color: Brilliant Blue Metallic (sonicblue; metallic Uni; 896; Mercedes-Benz) VIN: WP0ZZZ96ZMS406828 Mileage: 120 km, 75 miles from completion by Singer in 2023 Price: Sealed Bid CarFax: N/A Window Sticker: N/A Location: Chobham, England Listing:Link
Another Singer DLS has hit the market, this time in a sealed bid sale with RM Sotheby’s. Built as a left hand drive yet UK registered. So, while it’s based in the UK, its age and configuration make it fairly easy to certify and register in other markets like the U.S.A.
“The Oppenheimer Commission” was named for the Oppenheimer Blue diamond and not for the nuclear physicist. Said diamond is a 14.62-carat rock that is the largest fancy vivid blue diamond classified by the Geological Institute of America ever sold at auction.
While light weighting and performance was the main mission of the DLS, opulence befitting a gargantuan blue diamond also sort of fits cars costing more than seven figures to build. And, opulent Oppenheimer is, utilizing Mercedes-Benz Brilliant Blue Metallic contrasted with a generous amount of clear carbon fiber coated with navy tint gloss lacquer around the exterior and also throughout the cabin. This is particularly elegant in the blue lettering and striping on the car, subtly contrasting in a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it sort of way with the Brilliant Blue paint.
Oppenheimer also sports several one-off features Singer hadn’t tried before constructing it. For instance, the underbody of the car was fitted with underbody protection film. The smoked DLS-specification taillights aren’t one-ff, but they are seldomly seen and reportedly an $18,000 option.
Inside, the primary leather color is Cream, contrasted with Navy Blue Alcantara that is color-matched to the blue carbon fiber throughout. The car’s carbon bucket seats also get offset navy blue stripes in leather, while the shift knob is maple.
Singer only built 70 examples of the DLS. Now combine this one owner car’s odometer showing not much more than delivery miles and the opportunity should be obvious. Granted, that the price will be high should also be obvious. Even still, if you want to skip the line then Oppenheimer may be worth watching.
What: 1991 Audi S2 Coupé C5 by ABT Sportsline Color: Laser Red (laserrot; non-metallic; H1; Audi) Chassis #: N/A Mileage: 140,000 km / 86,991 miles Price: €52,900 CarFax: N/A Window Sticker: N/A Location: Kaiserclassic, Bromma, Sweden Dealer Listing:Link and Link
Why We Love It:
When Audi retired its iconic quattro in 1991, replacing it with the all-new S2 Coupé, the now loved 90s-era 2-door wasn’t exactly well received. Sure, it had an updated version of the brand’s turbocharged 20-valve 5-cylinder engine, but it was a bit heavier and… let’s face it… it was missing a certain something… a je ne sais quo as the French say.
Well, some people were pretty sure they knew. Those box flared fenders on the so-called “ur quattro” may have started as a budgetary decision since they could be stamped into the steel [1], but by the time Audi’s original quattro had been retired, they’d become the go-to element on only the coolest cars – cars like the BMW M3 E30 or the Lancia Delta Integrale. Now, here was the new S2 and it ditched that muscular look for a more efficient and aerodynamic form (as did BMW with the E36 M3 for what it’s worth).
By 1991 though, German Audi tuning haus ABT Sportsline had figured it out. They’d designed their own box flares and built just 40 examples, of which an estimated ten were turbocharged S2s. Most of the cars were delivered straight to ABT’s headquarters from Audi’s plant in Ingolstadt and were converted based on customer demand, a project managed by Christian Abt. Monaco’s Prince Albert [2] famously took delivery of a pearl white example believed to be a non-S2 Coupe quattro based on its early B3 unframed grille.
Another known example is the C5 S2 imported to the U.S.A. by Rotiform co-founder Jason Whipple. Whipple imported the car several years ago, and famously chided Hoonigan co-founder Brian Scotto with it on YouTube. That car, very similar in specification to this one including the Laser Red paint, is believed to still be in the U.S.A. and may very well be the only C5 that’s made it to America… at least that we know of.
The car you see here has always been a Swedish example. We’ll let the dealer’s description pick it up from here:
“This car, original Abt, was shipped brand new to the Abt-agent in Stockholm. It was used as a showroom and demo car for some time and thereafter sold to the sales manager, Johan Lind. It was used for daily driving a few years with good maintenance. Thereafter it was garaged for a period. In 2001 the car was sold to the Chairman of “Audi Club Sweden”, Lars Jern.
“In 2002-2004, the new owner got in contact with the famous Audi driver and engineer Anders Carlsson and his tuning-workshop, Ace Competition in Borås, Sweden. The Audi got an upgrade with the tuned 20v engine. The engine was built with the most well known parts and lots of experience. It was built to last long as the greatest legal road-car engine to an output power of 350+ hp.
“In 2017 the current owner took the Audi back to the famous Anders Carlsson, Ace Competition in Borås Sweden. His company was at this time more like an exclusive private workshop since his old business was sold. A lot of parts were changed and updated, with his expertise. Complete new kits of brakes, pumps, belts, bushings, mounts as well as coil-overs were fitted. The 5-speed gearbox was carefully overhauled. A new front windshield was installed. The original Abt wheels were restored and put back with new Michelin tires. A brand new stainless steel exhaust system including a new catalyst was tailor made by the famous Swedish stainless steel workshop tuner Ferrita AB.
“A professional paint-job was done in 2019 / 2020, original color. The last years the car has been driven only a few days per year, in between it was stored in a warm garage. Oil and filter has anyhow been changed yearly. Brake fluid is changed in 2021. During the winter 2023 the turbo charger, Borg Warner, was sent to SL-turbo in Degerfors, (Ace Competiotion partner) for a complete overhaul. The turbo got a new original Borg Warner housing. The hydraulic servopump was changed to a newly rebuilt RS2 pump bought from Autewo GmbH in Germany. This replacement work was done by certified Audi workshop at Möller Bil, Västerås
“The headlights are replaced and converted to xeon in 2020. They turn on automatically, even in daylight (the law in Sweden), but with moving the control one step upwards you could drive without headlights.”
Worth Noting:
This is one of our Euro market finds, so the usual caveats apply for our primarily North American readership. For Europe and other markets, we focus on cars older than 25 years, meaning a relatively easy import into the USA. This is often done by working with firms such as our friends at Orchid Euro, you can have the car purchased, transported to port, shipped to America and cleared through customs for clients seeking this sort of service.
We’re particularly fond of Paint to Sample Porsches built in an era before Paint to Sample was a common occurrence. In this case, the color specification is Summer Yellow over black leather, made even better with 18-inch two-piece Speedline variants of the classic 964-era Cup 1 wheel design.
According to the dealer’s listing, this car is one of about five to have been built in this color. Whether that means five 1991 Turbos or five 964 Turbos isn’t clear. Beyond that, the early 1990s weren’t robust sales years for Porsche, with only 674 U.S. market 911 Turbos even being sold that year.
We do notice a few modifications, including an Alpine stereo with single CD player, and that also has bluetooth phone and audio streaming. We’re also seeing what looks like an original equipment 993 style rear window spoiler with built-in LED strip taillight, which may not have been in production in 1991 but is a superior design to the large rectangular third brake light application found in early 964 era 911s.
What: 1991 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 Targa “Blueberry” Reimagined by Singer Color: Blue Blood (unknown) Chassis #: WP0BB2963MS440455 Mileage: 49 miles (at time of listing) since restoration Estimated Price: Inquire CarFax: N/A Window Sticker: N/A Location: Undisclosed Location, USA Listing:Link
Why we love it:
You don’t see a lot of Targas in the 911 world, and that goes for 911s reimagined by Singer as well. Yes, they do happen and make a compelling case for open-top motoring without the chassis flex of a full-blown roadster. When they’ve been reimagined as a fully-blown Singer Commission, that case becomes even more compelling.
If chassis flex is a concern, it’s also worth sharing that before reimagining a Targa shell, the team at Singer seam weld the chassis for added rigidity.
This car, known simply as “Blueberry”, is painted a color known as Blue Blood, with Deep Orange on the brake rotors, Carrera stripes and other accent details. Inside, the cockpit was specified with Orange and Dark Navy leather with carbon bucket seats and custom details throughout the interior. Its 4.0-liter flat six was specced with RS+ cams and titanium exhaust, the suspension from Öhlins and the brakes from Brembo.
The car is available through private sales at Broad Arrow. Check it out via the link above.
What: 1991 Porsche 911 Reimagined by Singer DLS “Dynamics and Lightweight Study” Color: Fluid Silver VIN: WP0ZZZ96ZMS400118 Mileage: 182 Price at Time of this Writing: Inquire CarFax: N/A Window Sticker: N/A Location: USA Dealer listing:Link
Why we love it:
Say you’ve been wanting a Singer, have got the cash but not the time to wait your turn in the ever-lengthening cue. If that describes your particular plight, then you may want to head on over to Broad Arrow and hit up their Private Sales inventory where the “Mame Commission” has popped up for sale.
In a day of wild colored tailored specs being… well, not common, but also not rare, choosing a subtle neutral silver and then packing some unexpected color on the inside is a beautiful display of if-you-know-you-know taste that embraces the understated. That’s the mix on “Mame”, with an exterior of Fluid Silver (a $42,550 option) and an interior of Olive Green Suede. It’s just so good.
Singer only ever built 75 examples of the DLS and availability is typically zero. That the “Mame Commission” with just 182 miles on it is available, much less in a fantastic specification, should definitely be noted. To quote Ferris Bueller, “It’s so choice. If you have the means (we)’d highly suggest it.”

A Reborn 1991 Geländewagen 250GD Ascends To Greater Heights After A 1,000+-Hour Revival
[source: Expedition Motor Company]
FRENCHTOWN, NJ – Specialists in Mercedes-Benz ex-military “Wolf” Geländewagens, Expedition Motor Company has unveiled its latest custom build. This 1991 250GD Wolf follows Expedition Motor Company’s emphasis on cabriolet models. It underwent more than 1,000 labor hours in the company’s shop, emerging in original Mercedes-Benz white paint with a black soft-top.
“This latest Wolf demonstrates our highest level of refinement to date,” says Expedition Motor Company Founder Alex Levin. “Our frame-off restoration/improvement process returns the vehicles to like-new condition while adding modern creature comforts and conveniences. The new White Wolf includes side hooks that are not for aesthetic purposes. In military service, Wolfs were sometimes transported by helicopters, so we bolstered the hooks with interior steel reinforcements per the original configuration.”
Expedition Motor Company now revives and personalizes the classic Wolfs, particularly the 1990-1993 250GD models – characterized by 2-door bodies with fold-down windshields and convertible tops. For the new White Wolf, Expedition Motor Company began with their standard bumpers and black cabriolet top. Then a few exterior upgrades were added to augment standard equipment such as better-than-factory LED headlights. Aside from the air-lift hooks, the most noticeable exterior accessories are fender-mounted indicators protected by metal guards and the snorkel kit. The rear bumper features lower lamp guards. An optional jerry-can holder with black cannister is another upgrade. Also, the tires are premium BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/As.
For the interior, Expedition Motor Company created a bespoke yet simple theme. Upholstery and front door panels are marine-grade brown vinyl, complemented by diamond-pattern floormats from Expedition Motor Company’s swatch book of fabrics. The rear cargo area features oak slats, which carry over to the rear side panels. Comfort was improved with a new Vintage Air HVAC system with retro-appearing dash controls for subtlety. Similarly, the VDO entertainment-system head unit looks period-appropriate but includes Bluetooth, USB, and device-input features. A hidden Retro Antenna system eliminates the traditional body-mounted antenna wand. These upgrades raise the White Wolf to a total cost of $92,150, a slight increase over Expedition Motor Company’s $90,000 base price.
As with all Expedition Motor Company vehicles, the White Wolf underwent a meticulous build process. The base vehicle – imported from overseas military sources – was totally stripped down to the frame. The ensuing multi-month re-birth began with inspection of all disassembled components. Each is then rebuilt, refinished, or replaced as necessary.
Specifics include media-blasting major components down to bare metal to remove any corrosion. Rust-inhibiting primer is then applied. Select parts such as the frame are finished in durable powdercoating for enduring corrosion-resistance. Other metal parts such as body panels and drivetrain-component housings are professionally finished by Expedition Motor Company with premium automotive-grade paint. Following accepted concours-restoration practices, all rubber and soft parts such as hoses, bushings, and body mounts are replaced with new components. Similarly, the suspension is revived with all-new Eibach springs and modern-tech Bilstein monotube shocks to optimize ride quality both on the highway and during any off-pavement excursions.
For Wolf powertrains, Expedition Motor Company remains true to the Mercedes-Benz pedigree by retaining the original numbers-matching components. The Wolf’s factory Mercedes-Benz OM602 2.5L inline-five diesel enjoys a reputation as one of the most reliable engines of all time. As with all Expedition Motor Company builds, the White Wolf’s existing engine was disassembled, cleaned, refinished, and rebuilt with new gaskets, seals, belts, pumps, and whichever internal components need to be replaced. The engine is then tested in the shop and then on the road prior to customer delivery. Similarly, the factory 711.7 5-speed manual transmission was disassembled, cleaned, and inspected prior to being rebuilt. A new clutch, seals, and throw-out bearing are part of each job. The transfer case and locking differentials received the same meticulous attention.
The White Wolf represents the current state of the art in bespoke 250GD restorations. Although Expedition Motor Company specializes in the 2-door/cabrio decommissioned Wolf models, the company can also source hard-top versions for customers as desired.
