What: 2018 Volkswagen Golf R Color: Spektrum Copper Orange Metallic (metallic uni; LA2W; Volkswagen) VIN: WVWWF7AU6JW240364 Mileage: 29,053 Price: $38,998 CarFax: N/A Window Sticker: N/A Location: Q Auto Center, Lynnwood, WA Dealer Listing:Link
Why We Love It:
One of the more rare Volkswagen Spektrum hues, paired with an old-school 6-speed manual transmission, this Golf R is an exceptionally engaging Tailored Driver at a fairly safe price point. So far as we can find, just three of these were ordered in the US (another 40 in Canada), so it’s also safe to assume you’ll be the only one at even the most hard core of Volkswagen enthusiast events.
We’ve covered Spektrum Golf R’s here before, and each time one pops up it’s admittedly somewhat of a surprise. Cult following, roughly 200 built for the US (33 in Viper Green), enthusiast brand and model- which is a long way to say “these things are sold before hitting market.” Yet here we have a Viper Green that was seemingly traded into a Mazda dealer of all places. Now, Mazda is a great brand with compelling offerings… but really? Perhaps if you scoop up this Tailored Driver, you can let us know what the previous owner walked away with.
What: 2019 Audi RS 5 Color: Audi exclusive Solar Orange(Solarorange; metallic uni; LY2G; Audi) VIN: WUAPWAF59KA905682 Mileage: 41,229 miles Price: $45,991 CarFax:Link Window Sticker: N/A Location: Palmer Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, Roswell, GA Dealer listing:Link
Why we love it:
How quickly we find our way back to Orange. Audi exclusive Solar Orange was chosen for this RS 5, with the added bonus of Audi exclusive deviated stitching in a matching Signal Orange found in the interior. In no doubt aided by the bold choice in color, this mega-sticker Tailored Driver is currently on offer at a Stellantis dealer for the seemingly low asking price of $45,991. If we had to guess, we’d say that’s likely half off its original asking price.
What: 2019 Volkswagen Golf R Spektrum Color: Spektrum Irish Green (irischgrün; Y78; Porsche) VIN: WVWVA7AU4KW202921 Mileage: 30,057 miles Price: $44,995 CarFax:Link Original MSRP: $41,495 Location: Wyomissing, PA Listing:Link
Why we love it:
We’ve said it before (literally) and we’ll say it again. Irish Green is one of the best colors you could have gotten on Volkswagen’s 2019 run of Golf R Spektrum cars painted very special colors. Yes, we’ve seen this car before. It transacted on Bring a Trailer late last year, and it looks like it ended up in the inventory of Wyomissing, PA dealer Bay 22.
Since then, it’s only logged about 50+ miles, and it’s got its stock wheels back (that we’d argue help the value and collectibility of the car). No dis on aftermarket wheels, they just don’t bring value on collector sites like Bring a Trailer.
Back to this Golf, it remains a very special car and a worthy pursuit for a Volkswagen aficionado. That it’s painted a truly tasteful Porsche heritage color only adds to that.

What: 2019 Audi S5 Sportback Color: Aetna Blue (aetnablau; non-metallic uni; SP39; Audi) VIN: WAUB4CF51KA050420 Mileage: 75,200 Price at Time of this Writing: $29,000 CarFax: N/A Original MSRP: N/A Location: Southington, CT Private Party listing:Link
Why we love it:
Believed to be identical to Porsche Aetna Blue that dates back to the 356 era, a quick Googling will show that Audi exclusive has built a small number of cars in this color over the last few years. The owner/seller of this car reports, in this case, it is 1 of 1 and thus apparently the only 2019 Audi S5 Sportback built to this color… at least in this year.
This car has some miles on it, but appears to be a great spec and impeccably kept. This includes Sport Differential, black leather, professionally applied Adams Graphene Advanced Ceramic coating, PPF xple on headlights, Integrated Engineering air intake and stage 1 tune for engine and transmission, plus a set of summer wheels / tires (Audi RS 5 5-spoke design with Continental tires) and winter wheel package with 20-inch rotor style wheels on Pirelli Winter Sottozero tires… the latter likely the stock wheel given this appears to be a black optic S5.
Given the car has mileage, it’s also nice to know that the car has had a recent Blackstone oil analysis, that front and rear brakes were replaced, spark plugs were replaced, water pump service was completed including belt tensioner and roller all at 70,000 miles. The 75,000 mile service was also completed including all fluids changed including the differential. The seller will even provide recent PPI and complete VCDS Scan to a serious buyer.
What: 2019 Volkswagen Golf R Spektrum Color: Spektrum Ginster Yellow (ginstergelb; L132; Volkswagen) VIN: WVWVA7AU5KW120194 Mileage: 55,086 miles Price at Time of Writing: $34,999 CarFax: N/A Window Sticker: N/A Location: Mechanicsburg, PA Dealer listing:Link
Why we love it:
At this point we suspect our readers are familiar with the Volkswagen Golf R Spektrum series from 2019. In short, 40 different colors were chosen, built, and subsequently sold through the U.S. and Canada. Of those, Ginster Yellow was chosen to hark the 1997 Driver’s Edition GTI (Mk3).
The car you see here is one of those Ginster Yellow cars, one of apparently 30 to be painted that color. The seller lists that’s it’s a DSG car, has the Driver’s Assistance Package and the Black Styling Package. Modifications are limited to H&R Blue lowering springs and a CTS intake. Though no CarFax is linked in the ad, the seller states it’s got a clean report including clean accident history.
What: 2019 Volkswagen Golf R Spektrum Color: Spektrum Irish Green (irischgrün; Y78; Porsche) VIN: WVWVA7AU4KW202921 Mileage: 30,000 miles Price at Time of this Writing: Bid to $30,369 with Six Days Left in Auction CarFax:Link Original MSRP: $41,495 Location: West Chester, PA Auction listing:Link
Why we love it:
Beyond special or limited edition models, Volkswagen hasn’t had its own in-house tailoring department. However, in 2019, then Golf product planner Megan Closset decided to take matters into her own hands. VW of America was never going to set up a program like Audi has with Audi exclusive, but by doing a very limited run of a large spectrum of colors she could effectively do the same thing. So, that run was made ergo “Spektrum”, and those cars showed up at dealers with enthusiasts seeking them out like a Hot Wheels Treasuer Hunt.
That was MY2019, and by now it’s rare that these cars come up for sale. When they do, they’re often modified as is common practice in the Volkswagen ownership community. Collector cars, as we know, tend to carry more value when they’re relatively true to original form. Cars like this one, we’d argue, are sympathetically modified… meaning that there are a few mods like Sparco wheels and a removal of badges, but stock parts were retained.
More importantly, we’d argue Irish Green is one of the best colors you could have gotten. Many here probably already know that Irish Green is a classic Porsche hue. It’s steeped in heritage, as is Volkswagen’s association with Porsche, so a double win. This one’s also well kept and relatively low mileage, so if you’ve been looking for a Golf R Spectrum then this one should be near the top of your list.
What: 2019 Volkswagen Golf R Color: Spektrum Violet Touch Pearl (code LC4U) (violettouchpearl; pearl effect; LC4U; Volkswagen) VIN: WVWWA7AU7KW119018 Mileage: 61,021 Price at Time of this Writing: $25,999 CarFax:Link Window Sticker: N/A Location: Union, NJ Dealer listing:Link
Why we love it:
Volkswagen’s Spektrum program was somewhat of a one-hit wonder, with all the right boxes checked- extremely limited run, one year only, enthusiast brand, enthusiast model only. Add to that the rare Spektrum shade of Violet Touch Pearl, a 6 speed manual transmission, and the seemingly reasonable $25,999 asking price, and we’re tempted. Important to note, the CarFax denotes this as a Canadian market example, meaning that warranty coverage, recalls, and registration could prove more challenging when compared to a US-market car.
Why we love it: Audi’s B9 generation RS 5 is pretty tough to beat- good power, great size, and featuring a modernized interpretation of box flares. This Tailored Driver is finished in Audi exclusive Nogaro Blue (LZ5M) over Black leather with Rock Grey stitching, alu-optic exterior trim, and was optioned with the dynamic package which raises the speed limiter and adds Carbon Ceramic brakes. For a quite reasonable $52,999, this West Coast two-owner example would be an impactful addition to your Tailored fleet.
When you think of a car as exclusive as the 2019 Porsche 911 (991.2) Speedster, you probably assume that anyone with the positioning to have had a build slot and the means to pay for the car more than likely would have commissioned their own unique specification… or at least a Paint to Sample finish. Well, if you’d assumed that you’d be wrong as we’ve gotten our hands on the 2019 model catalogue and were intrigued to see there was a standard color palette listed. In as much, it’ the latest in our weekly Color Chart series.
Frankly, we may have even been more surprised that in 2019 there was a product catalogue. Manufacturers have moved increasingly to better and better configurator tools on their websites, allowing you to simulate very specific option configurations and even some Paint to Sample simulations. That’s all remarkable of course, but when manufacturers like Porsche move on from an older generation car like the 991.2, the specifics of those configurations seem to get lost to time… at least those configurators become lost as a reference. In those cases you have to go old school and find a model catalogue, a task that’s getting harder and harder to accomplish given highly complex configurators are a lot cheaper to build and distribute than printed catalogues. Perhaps the happy medium then is the PDF catalogue.
For that we turned to one of our favorite references autocatalogarchive.com. There, amidst their seriously deep collection of Porsche catalogues, we found a 2019 Speedster book. Using that as a reference, we’re able to list the colors offered on the 2019 Speedster. See those below, or go directly to the MY2019 Porsche 991.2 Speedster catalogue HERE.
