    Tailored Driver is about pushing boundaries, and this X7 does exactly that in more ways than one. BMW Individual Verde Ermes Pearl Effect is one shade we’re not certain we’ve seen before, but we certainly think it was a big bet that paid off for the original Tailor. It’s also helped to push our own boundaries by inspiring a deep dive into Verde Ermes in hopes of learning more. While that search is still very much ongoing, we can say that the color seems to have first appeared on the facelifted F90 M5 Competition with BMW USA ordering at least one of their Press cars in the hue. Since, we’ve seen images of it on the i4, G80 generation M3, and a few other models in BMW’s range- all with stunning results.

    We’ve covered the Audi TT RS Heritage cars in the past, but due to incredibly limited quantities and equally tasteful build configurations, we simply do not see them often. Just 50 in total (10 each of five different heritage-themed color combinations) were produced, which nearly guarantees the buyer of this particular Tailored Driver be the only one they’ll ever encounter- a feat usually reserved for cars in the 6 and 7 figure range. Through that lens, the modest bump in pricing over a run of the mill TT RS seems like a downright bargain. So here we’ve got nearly the perfect vehicle for the Tailored Driver ethos- an enthusiast model that boasts scarcity at a somewhat attainable price of entry.

    Sort of the opposite of that line from Field of Dreams, McLaren Special Operations exists in a world of If you come we will build it. Understandably, this can take the form of an infinite number of different Tailored Drivers, so it makes our life a bit more difficult. Take this Satin Urban Green 765LT for example- we simply can’t find a color code, nor can we find another example of MSO painting a car this color. Search after search only returns this exact car wearing different wheels. Now, we can surmise that MSO borrowed an existing color, likely BMW’s Urban Green, and applied it lovingly with a satin clear final stage, and called it a day. If that is indeed the case, then paint code goes from unknown to a variation of the “YA04” that we’ve seen before and is linked above.

    So here we are, exactly where we find ourselves with many McLaren finds, wondering what the precise code is. It’s admittedly at times a frustrating endeavor, but as Tailored Driver grows we want to catalog and feature builds such as these to provide equal parts reference and inspiration.     Initially created as a Paint to Sample Plus color in 2017 and added to the standard Paint to Sample palate in 2023, Alex Grey has quite the story behind it. Tracing it’s roots back to 1962 when Dutch Police needed a faster horse to ensure safety on roads that at the time were without speed limits, the Rijkspolitie turned it’s attention to Porsche and their 356. This created a partnership that resulted in a fleet of 507 Porsches in total until the Dutch opted for something more ordinary and cancelled the program in 1996. As they are want to do, Porsche celebrated the partnership with a special edition in 2017, contracting Studio Piet Boon to do-develop a color and livery for the car. Alex Grey as shown here was the result, which oddly enough is in no way representative of the aforementioned Rijkspolitie liveried cars. But what it is, is a very deep, incredibly vibrant Grey- much more vibrant than Audi’s Nardo, and much more distinct than Fashion Grey or even Grey Black.

    The iconic Porsche color of Irish Green looks the business on a 60s/70s F-body 911, and really everything else in between. Such is the reason that Irish Green is a regular hit on the Paint to Sample color palette for an in-the-know buyer looking to spec their car in Porsche heritage.

    What’s the origin of Irish Green at Porsche? It first appeared in 1964 on the Porsche 356C models, and would quickly become Ferry Porsche’s favorite Green… which is saying something because Ferry Porsche loved greens in general.

    In the case of this GT3 Touring, the Irish Green paint is paired with a subdued black leather interior that really harks the era from which Irish Green emerged.

    The dealer listing for this car suggests the car is one of one. While we’ve not been able to confirm that claim, we do know that Citrus Yellow is not as common in Audi exclusive parlance as say a Vegas Yellow or an Imola Yellow.

    From photos, the color appears to be more on the buttery side, not quite as gold as Vegas, or even more venturing toward orange as Imola. That said, the exterior shots of this car make it seem far less intense as it does in the door jams on the interior shots. If you’re curious, this is one we’d recommend seeing in person.     BMW’s Atlantis Blue Metallic is not exactly what we’d consider understated, but what it lacks in modesty it more than makes up for in dynamism. Appearing blue in low light, and bursting to nearly teal in direct sunlight, Atlantis looks right at home on the M3 Competition- especially when paired with the equally shouty Kyalami Orange seats. Normally a fan of gold wheels, we’re not sure they really work in this application, although that’s an incredibly easy fix. If you’re not afraid of a little unsolicited conversation, we think this Tailored Driver could be a great fit.

    It may be subtle, but this Audi SQ5 represents a double dose of rare decisions in the tailored ordering segment. First, going with a subtle color like Brown takes an extra commitment to the decision given the extra money to go with special paint may be lost on many who see the car. Second, going across brand borders into the palette of another manufacturer, in this case Porsche, suggests even more commitment given that likely makes the special paint that much more of a financial commitment.

    Porsche Mahagony Metallic over grey is a particularly handsome and yet understated combination to be sure. Well played to the original buyer. The SQ5 now sits in inventory at Audi Jacksonville.

    If you’re curious about the car and the color and aren’t local enough to go see it in person, we’d suggest googling it. These photos are low light, making the car appear almost black or dark grey. In our experience Mahogany Metallic is much richer in person than it appears in these photos.

    Given the focus on the Audi RS 6, most enthusiasts seeking a special station wagon from the brand of the four rings tend to apply Audi exclusive paint services to the big dog RS car. Comparatively though, the A6 allroad is a veritable bargain. Build it to Prestige specification in the order guide then throw on a great-looking special paint color from Audi exclusive and you have a very special thing.

    In this case, that color is Goodwood Green. Dating back to Audi’s B6/C5 era in the early 2000s, Goodwood is the go-to British Racing Green-like color in the Audi catalogue, though tends to be a bit more on the blue and darker side of the British Racing Green spectrum.

    Though it’s hard to see in these photos, the interior is a very dark hue known as Sarder Brown. That interior color isn’t available in the RS 6 nor even in the RS 6 Audi exclusive interior options, so its presence in this car is a bit of an exclusivity on its own. It also pairs very handsomely with Goodwood Green.

    Are there downsides? It depends on your purview. This car appears to have aftermarket wheels and it’s been lowered likely via programming to the air suspension. To an enthusiast, these may be welcome changes. Otherwise, it wouldn’t be hard to put things back to factory if that’s your preference.

    If you have the chance, check this car out in person. Photography of the car appears to be the day it was traded, complete with Minnesota license plates and a layer of winter road salt. It doesn’t matter though, it’s still a highly desirable specification.

    If you’re looking to have your Tailored Driver featured as a Market Find, a sure-fire way to do so is to paint it some variant of Green, and pair that with either Tan or Brown seats. British Racing is this Tailored Driver’s shade of green, and Tarfuto it’s Brown- never has a more safe bet been placed. And while the G80 M3 might not be everyone’s cup of tea, we think we can all agree this spec does the divisive design a ton of favors.
