    Having been most notably applied to late production 993 (1997) and early production 996 (up to 2000) models, Porsche’s Paint to Sample Ocean Blue Metallic is a stunner that flies incredibly far under the radar. Similar enough to Lapiz Blue that we’d not fault you for being mistaken, Ocean is deeper, darker and much less common. We’d love to see it again in the future, and are happy to document it here on Tailored Driver.

    Some Tailored Drivers come with more of a story than others, and if written, this Driver‘s page count would be somewhere between War and Peace and The Bible. The incredibly brief version is that this GT3 was repossessed wearing a half-completed widebody prototype, and at some point transitioned from being a vehicle to being someone’s living quarters. It was then passed around for a bit, until eventually the current seller set out to bring it back to presentable. With a full glass-out respray (and probably a lot more!), the car is presentable and could be just the no-reserve ‘deal’ someone is after.

    The next owner of this Tailored Driver has to really love brown. While we’ve played around with Porsche’s Paint to Sample configurator and toyed with the idea of Sepia Brown, we’ve yet to see someone take the plunge. Perhaps because it’s a non-metallic, meaning it’s a LOT of brown. That certainly didn’t deter the curator of the spec, as they doubled-down on the choice with Heritage seats in Cognac Leather. Is it too much of a good thing? We’ll let you decide.

    Porsche’s Paint to Sample Voodoo Blue is quickly attaining frequent flyer status at Tailored Driver, and for good reason- the pale blue looks quite incredible, regardless of application. While somewhat wild to say, 2018 was already 7(!) years ago and just slightly before Paint to Sample became a nearly must-have option for new Porsche buyers. So while the color may be somewhat common, the application certainly is not. That nuance makes this 4-owner, 17,000 mile example just a bit more exciting.

    The 718 Cayman GT4 (and Boxster Spyder for that matter) are Tailored Driver favorites for a number of reasons, most of them fairly obvious- size, shape, power, etc. Further tugging on our heartstrings, this particular example is finished in the dark and moody Viola Metallic, paired with Carbon Fiber bucket seats that happen to feature CXX-tailored Hounds Tooth inserts. Someone really lucky is going to get this, shame it won’t be us.

    Porscheflation aside, this $149,992 992.1-generation 911 Carrera S has a lot going for it. Brewster Green is always a hit regardless of application, as are cloth-centered seats and three pedals. But what really does it for us on this particular Tailored Driver is the restraint shown on the build. No heritage pack, no carbon brakes, just a traditional Paint to Sample choice for what never quite became a daily driver. We’d be more than happy to right that wrong, and feel that this Tailored Driver represents a good value when compared to non-PTS comps.

    This 997 is finished in Porsche’s Venetian Blue Metallic, a medium blue-ish grey with deep roots in the G body era of 911s, which we simply do not see very often. Perhaps a byproduct of the G body’s underappreciation until very recent times, we can’t really blame any Tailors for simply overlooking Venetian- it’s not the brightest, the most vibrant, and nor the most legendary of Porsche’s secret menu. But as we frequently say, fortune favors the bold and the original Tailor of this 997 C4S Cab was certainly rewarded with a knockout.

    As frequent visitors have learned- we’re massive fans of the 997-generation 911. The right size, modern (enough) tech, and still hints of that analog driving experience, the 997 also had the benefit of being the real start of Porsche’s endless variant strategy and proliferation of Paint to Sample. This particular 997 in Paint to Sample Speed Yellow has another big thing going for it, being a Speedster. Consider it an unexpected must-have for the 911 collector who already has the numerous ‘traditional’ GT models, awaiting its next steward.

    Consider all of the cars from Todd Blue’s LAPIS collection and the blue hue theme is painfully obvious. Even still, it’s the heavy emphasis on Paint to Sample and Sonderwunsch that really seems to drop jaws. Our final spotlight focus on this mix is another early example for this collection – a G-body flat nose Cabriolet in paint to sample Mercedes-Benz Diamond Blue Metallic.

    The car’s special paint pairs handsomely with Porsche’s Silk Grey leather including extended leather placement. The Fuchs wheels are color-matched, while the top is dark blue to complete the special blue-themed presentation of the car.

    This subtle flachbau even has some one-of-one specification bragging rights. According to RM, this is the only G50-equipped U.S. market flachbau (flat nose) Cabriolet produced in paint-to-sample Mercedes Diamond Blue. More relevant perhaps is that it is one of 50 U.S, market flachbau Cabriolets produced in 1989.
