If you’ve been seeking a vintage Jaguar Roadster, this one makes a compelling case for a number of reasons. No, it’s not any sort of paint-to-sample special, but it is a rare period color that looks great and has all the makings of an incredible heritage story to share with friends. First up is the color – Imperial Maroon. It was a standard color back in the day, and it also has royal context. While not affiliated with Jaguar back then, Jag’s contemporary sister brand Land Rover displayed a collection of cars last year at Pebble Beach painted the same basic Royal Claret color – the literal color painted on cars for the English Royal Family. This color being the color it is, and the name Imperial referring to a monarchy, the tie to the royal livery is pretty obvious.

The car itself is a desirable ’55 Jaguar XK140 Roadster. In 1955, Jaguar was in a dominant place in the automotive industry. 70 years ago this week, at the 1955 24 Hours of Le Mans, disaster happened when a Jaguar D-type collided with another car and was sent into the crowd amassed along the front straight. While a terrible incident, it’s an unforgettable moment in racing history and one that happened the very year this was produced.

The car in question seems well kept, including a conversion to disc brakes. Its carbonated 4.4-liter 6-cylinder and 4-speed transmission likely help it move down the road with relative ease. Its Imperial Maroon over beige leather is a handsome and stately configuration for a car of this most voluptuous era of sportscar history.

Now pivot to the car’s location in Beausoleil, France. In case the yachts in the background haven’t made it obvious, Beausoleil is literally a suburb of Monaco and the listing suggests the car is actually housed in the principality of Monaco. According to the listing, it was acquired via Sotheby’s auction in 1990. While that means you have import the car to the U.S. where most of our readership is based, it also gives you an excuse to travel to Monaco for a test drive, perhaps purchase and collect. And should you collect, how could you resist a little extra time on the French Riviera driving such a wonderful thing.

We’ve asked the question time and time again. Does a car artfully built from the standard options list count as tailored? I’d argue they do, and there’s an art to creating something truly unique within the confines of those options. By these criteria, I’d argue this Taycan Cross Turismo 4S is tailored.

The color is a standard one and known as Cherry Metallic. On the inside, it’s paired with Porsche’s Olea Leather option package, one that in this case includes rare Truffle Brown leather that pairs excellently with the exterior color.

Another rare option list choice is color-matching the wheels. Back in the 1980s, color-matched Fuchs on a G-body 911 was a popular option and thus the look became distinctively Porsche. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen those 5-spoke alloys color-matched to a Taycan, but we can’t remember ever seeing it done in Cherry Metallic.

One last thing, this is a late model electric car, meaning it succumbs to a heavy level of depreciation. In as much, lightly used examples make for an excellent buy. Priced at $84,991, it’s well below its original window sticker price.

Filmed: BMW Individual Ruby Red Metallic 2003 BMW 330Ci M Sport

This E46 330Ci Convertible has already found a new home, but we wanted to bring back this older video from Shooting Brake for one standout reason: the color. Finished in BMW Individual Ruby Red Metallic (rubinrot; metallic; S03; BMW), this spec is a rare sight and suits the E46 perfectly. Paired with a two-tone black and red Nappa leather interior, it gives the whole build a bespoke feel. The BMW Individual door sill is one of those rare options we don’t see often, and it adds just the right detail to set this car apart. Rare, tasteful, and aging with grace. Scott gives a quick walkaround and drive, showing off just how timeless and sorted this build still feels today.

Color Check – Ruby Red Metallic (rubinrot; metallic; S03; BMW)
Ruby Red Metallic is one of those low-production BMW Individual colors that rarely shows up, but when it does, it has our full attention. It’s since been modernized as Ruby Red II Pearl Effect Metallic, now available through the BMW Individual program. Always exciting to spot the original in the wild. It’s a rich, deep red, think cherry wine, with a fine metallic finish that comes alive in the sunlight.

There’s something about a unique car from a time when acquiring something tailored wasn’t just a matter of chatting up a sales guy at a dealer and wandering into a lounge where all your options are laid out readily in front of you. Yes, it’s not always that easy today, but it was much harder back in the day… say 1992, when this very unique 512 TR was manufactured.

Rare paint? Check. Rosso Winner, a deep dark cabernet of a red that doesn’t look a thing like every other red Testarossa on the planet. Now, add in tone-on-tone red leather interior for good measure and you have something particularly tasteful? Don’t like a red-on-red Ferrari? Too bad. Literally every F40 that hasn’t been re-trimmed or sold to the Sultan of Brunei is red-over-red. Alas, none are Rosso Winner over red. That’s a shame.

Maybe it’s EVs making us yearn for classic and obnoxious ICE again, or maybe it’s just Generation X feeling nostalgic as it watches its amassing 401Ks, but Reagen era hedonistic sportscars are enjoying a renaissance that most any of us can get behind.

Take the Ferrari Testarossa. In any other era, a car with those cheese grater intakes on each side would probably be considered extreme, but sitting next to a Lamborghini Countach the Testarossa struck a toned down and almost subtle pose. Add in a factory color yet rare paint like Rosso Metallizzato and it looked even more reserved.

FYI, there’s just such a car right now at Graham Rahal Performance. If you’re seeking a unique car from this era, this one definitely qualifies. Unlike today, paint to sample services in this era were pretty few and far between, making rare shades such as this one a great get if you want something tailored from the 80s era.

Alright, this one’s a bit of a mystery. A semi-thorough Googling searching this car doesn’t reveal any details while the Lamborghini dealership that has it in inventory also offers no online description. Perhaps by the time you read this they will have provided us some details. If you’re reading this and no further details are offered though, that means we were unable to learn more about this highly unusual Porsche 959 as of this time.

Here’s what we can glean from the photos. The car appears to be red and may be Guards Red based on other known 959s. If it’s Guards Red, that would definitely make it rare given Porsche’s most ubiquitous red wasn’t the standard red offering, which would have bene Ruby Red.

There’s a whole lot more going on here though than red paint. Given there were so few 959s, color-matched wheels and red interior also would have been special wishes.

The seats are also worth a mention, color-matched Recaro Pole Positions. Porsche wasn’t installing Pole Positions in their cars until the 964 era, though the earliest 964s were leaving the factory at about the same time and it all would have been interchangeable. Based on the leather fitment around the harness holes on the bolsters though, it’s probably more likely this car was redone and that interior reupholstered at some point.

The car has no roll cage, so it appears to be based on a 959 Komfort.

Given it’s a 959, we reached out to Bruce Canepa at Canepa Design. Bruce is literally the author of the Show and Display rule that he got passed when importing cars for Paul Allen and Bill Gates. Today, his firm in Scotts Valley is responsible for the incredible 959 SC commissioned reimagined cars. The world of Porsche 959s isn’t that big, so we figured Bruce would know the car.

What we learned is that we’re nearly certain the car didn’t leave the factory this way, especially with the later 964-era Recaro seats. Bruce also confirmed that this car is not one of the 123 959s to date that have gone through his shop, so he’d never actually seen it in person even though several clients had approached him about the car. Whether or not the changes were done by Porsche themselves at Werk 1 Bruce wasn’t able to confirm, nor whether or not the changes were done in period.

Thanks to Bruce Canepa for further insight into the car.

The B8.5-generation Audi allroad is from an interesting time at Audi. Sandwitched as it was between the departure of the A4 Avant S line (A4)and predating the arrival of the RS 6 Avant (C8), the A4 allroad represented quite literally the only station wagon for several years. This placed the focus of many enthusiasts on a model that, at least in Europe, would have been rather boring. It doesn’t matter, they were loved and not uncommonly ordered in tailored specification like this Audi exclusive Brilliant Red example.

Nowadays, these cars represent a solid value. As a result, they tend to be hard to find unmodified, low mileage and well kept. This car appears to check all those boxes, with just over 68,000 miles on it and appearing to be unmodified. For someone seeking a budget Avant, you may want to contact Audi Salt Lake City as soon as possible..

    • Ultra-low mileage, one owner 1977 Ferrari 512 BB ‘Wide Body’ set for auction
    • The unique commission benefits from a host of bespoke cosmetic and mechanical enhancements
    • Estimated at £150,000-£170,000, it will go under the hammer with H&H Classics on Wednesday 9th April

    [source: H&H Classcs Ltd]

A one-owner, exclusive commission 1977 Ferrari 512 BB ‘Wide Body’ with just 6,000 miles from new is going under the hammer with H&H Classics at its first Cambridgeshire auction of 2025.

Estimated at £150,000-£170,000, it is thought to be unique among the 101 UK-supplied right hand drive examples and will be auctioned on Wednesday 9th April at the Imperial War Museum in Duxford.

The eye-catching model has been uprated with wider wheels, various engine modifications and reshaped bodywork by supplying dealer Maranello Concessionaires. It has been maintained by Vince Mezzullo, a Maranello employee who bonded with the owner over their shared Sicilian ancestry, both during and after his time at the renowned dealership.

Finished in Rosso Chiaro with black hide and carpets, it has also benefitted from reworked front and rear aluminium clamshells plus reprofiled B-to-C-post sections and enlarged NACA cooling ducts.

John Markey, motorcar specialist at H&H Classics, said: “This Ferrari ‘Wide Body’ was commissioned by a serial Ferrari owner and while other Ferrari’s came and went, and not to mention other high-performance machines, this Prancing Horse always remained in his collection as a firm favourite.”

Now being offered for sale by his wife, this example is reputedly inspired by the factory sanctioned 512 BB Competizione cars which were campaigned by Charles Pozzi and NART at the 1978 Le Mans 24-hours.

John added: “This ‘Wide Body’ enjoys a host of bespoke cosmetic and mechanical enhancements and has been in ownership of the Morello family from new. It is a unique BB and has ultra-low mileage, making it worthy of close inspection.”

All lots will be available to view in person at the Imperial War Museum, Duxford from midday on Tuesday 8th and from 9am on Wednesday 9th April, while the sale then commences at 1pm. Anyone looking to bid on one of the lots can do so in person, online, by telephone or by leaving a commission bid.

You may be noticing a common theme on our site these past few weeks, with seemingly endless references to RM Sotheby’s upcoming Miami Auction during Moda Miami. Simply put, when it comes to offerings with tailored specification, this auction is weighing in heavily. Take for example this 2021 Ferrari SF90 Stradale custom ordered in Rosso Dino.

Sharing nomenclature with Ferrari’s 2019 Formula One car, the SF90 Stradale commemorates the 90th anniversary of Scuderia Ferrari by offering a technical tour-de-force. At its heart is Ferrari’s F154 twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 engine paired with a hybrid system which includes electric motors at the front and rear. Net power is 986 hp, allowing for a 0-60 mph capability of under three seconds – impressive.

This particular SF90 Stradale was first delivered to Gomez Hermanos Kennedy LLC, the Ferrari dealer in San Juan Puerto Rico. Its specification boasts $60,000 in options that include its custom-ordered two-tone paint of Rosso Dino on the main body and a black roof.

Inside, the black interior received special-order yellow accents in order to tie-in the yellow brake calipers. Other options include the suspension lift system, size large carbon fiber racing seats, Advanced Front Lighting System (AFS), black ceramic exhaust pipes, Scuderia Ferrari shields, titanium wheel stud blots, front and rear parking sensors, advanced front driving camera, electrochromic rearview mirror, and Homelink system.

The car has logged just 667 miles at the time of cataloguing for this auction.

    Why We Love It:

We are always, and we mean ALWAYS, fans of car dealership salespeople bringing hot finds to the enthusiast community the moment they hit the dealership. Today, it’s Tiana Chichester at Audi Greenville in Greenville, SC, posting about an Audi exclusive RS 6 Avant that she posted over on the Audi Club North America Classifieds Facebook Group.

Shiraz Red is a color with some history at Audi, maintaining a following that makes it a popular choice in the “standard” Audi exclusive guide… and by standard we don’t mean a standard RS 6 color offering but rather one of the many available in the standard (i.e. not off book) Audi exclusive program. Choosing it on an RS 6 Avant is a solid move that brings out the stateliness of Audi’s C-segmenet long roof.

The car is a one owner certified pre-owned car, meaning it passes all the hurdles to qualify and enjoys an extended factory warranty as a result. Priced under $100,000 then, makes it a reasonable price. That’s probably also because it’s got 40,000 miles on the odometer and also has the rarely seen choice of comfort seats – basically A6-spec seats versus the bigger bolstered hex-stitched buckets that are standard in the RS 6.

Should you reach out to Audi Greenville via the link above, make sure to ask for Tiana Chichester and thank her for making sure to share it with the enthusiast community who seek these sorts of cars.
