This car’s a bit of a puzzle. It’s an “ur” Mini. “Ur” means “original” in German, which is how Germans designate the original Audi quattro from every other Audi with quattro. Given this Mini is in Germany, not far from Frankfurt, the German descriptor sort of works.

The car itself is listed as “1 of 1” in Porsche Riviera Blue, with bespoke blue leather interior as well. It’s possible it wasn’t done by the factory, though the amount of interior details and “1 of 1” description makes us wonder if it’s some sort of factory special.

The dealer ad isn’t all that revealing in this regard, so we’ll just not that here. Otherwise, if you’re into something unique and don’t mind going through importation, this Mini makes a compelling case.

Riviera Blue has been covered here before, and for good reason- it’s a wildly popular bright blue that genuinely looks incredible when applied to all brands covered by Tailored Driver. Seen here on a 2018 Audi RS 5 with a tasteful yet subtle feature on it’s Brake Calipers as well, this Tailored Driver also features several unknown modifications. 034 Motorsport’s strut tower brace is seen under-hood, as is an MTM badge on the rear trunk lid. Our guess is the brand’s performance software, but both brand names – 034 and MTM – should pique the interest of any true Audi aficionado. We’d be remiss to not also mention the lower ride height, although it’s unclear who provided the drop.

  • Color Check: Audi exclusive RS 6 performance in Riviera Blue

Color Check: Audi exclusive RS 6 performance in Riviera Blue

As mentioned yesterday, Germany’s Scherer Sport dealership has a building full of Audi RS 6 Avants. According to a recent Facebook post, they claim to have over 40 RS 6 Avants available at a promotional price. Amongst them is this very striking color combination.

On the outside is Riviera Blue (rivierablau; non-metallic Uni; LP3G; Audi). Inside, this specification continues to strike a bold pose with light Diamond Silver Leather paired with Alaska Blue contrast stitching.

The last time Scherer Sport ran this sort of promotion, headlining with a gaggle of Audi R8s, it coincided with the end of production of Audi’s mid-engine supercar. We know the launch of the A6 replacement is imminent (Mach 4 via ooooIYKYK.com). Given the proximity of that reveal, it’s quite possible the RS 6 Avant is nearing its production end.

Get them while they’re hot. The C9 Audi RS 6 is expected to be a hybrid, which means added weight. Though the RS 6 Avant is no clubsport lightweight, we’re told the M5 Touring is over 400 lbs heavier.

Another from the Todd Blue LAPIS collection is this über rare 1996 Porsche 911 Carrera 3.8 RS, #261 of 1,104 examples ever produced. It was delivered new in Germany. Of those, it’s the only example produced in Riviera Blue with Clubsport aerodynamics and black leatherette interior with Grey seat centers and Riviera Blue accents from Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur.

Other options include the Clubsport front spoiler, Clubsport rear wing, Clubsport strut tie bar, power steering, motorsports steering wheel in leather, air conditioning, German market equipment group, radio, locking differential and special-order heated and power adjustable Clubsport sport seats with Riviera Blue color-matched fiberglass shells. RM shares that they also have an accompanying build shit confirming further Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur options such as door pulls and seat belts in matching Riviera Blue.

For those who don’t know, a 993-generation Carrera RS 3.8 is effectively a homologation special. These cars were built to qualify the visually similar Porsche 911 3.8 RS for BPR GT3 and GT4 classes of racing. Like many homologation specials, this effectively makes the car a bit of a racing car for the road. It’s widebody stance is also believed to be an inspiration to the RWB Porsche movement and the Idlers racing series from which it spawned.

Of the 1,104 911 Carrera RS 3.8s built between 1994 and 1996, 227 were spartan Clubsport versions. It’s not known how many were standard RS versions utilizing the lightweight Clubsport options as did #261 that RM will be selling as part of their Miami sale this year.

The 993 Carrera RS 3.8 is powered by a 3.8-liter version of Porsche’s normally-aspirated M64/20 engine. It produces 296 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and 262 lb-ft of torque at 5,400 rpm. As with the previous 964 3.8 RS, the 993 3.8 RS also makes use of 18-inch modular 3-piece alloy wheels from Speedline, though their magnesium centers were updated to match the 993 era “Cup 2” design.

As for the Riviera Blue paint color itself, it is a hue that seems to harken earlier decades like the 1970s, but was actually introduced as a 993 launch color. Like many colors over the years, Riviera Blue was a bold color Porsche introduced with their new models that suffered in period from being polarizing enough that the take rate was very low. However, it aged gracefully and today is highly sought after by collectors both for its unique hue and its rarity.

The car was delivered new to Porsche Center Dusseldorf in June of 1995. It remained in Dusseldorf until 2007 when it next spent its time in several significant Porsche collections in England, Holland and France before being imported into the U.S.A. prior to being 25 years old via NHTSA’s “Show and Display” exemption. Today, it is titled in the USA.

    Why we love it:

It may not get the love that its air-cooled ancestors receive, but the 997-generation 911 gets plenty of admiration due to it’s ideal size, relatively modern tech (current, should you get PCCM), and end-of-an-era dynamics that are defining characteristics of early 2000s metal. This one is a touch above having been graced with Paint to Sample Riviera Blue specified on it’s order sheet, with the absolute must-have paint matched center console also included. Open air motoring might be somewhat of a demerit to hardcore enthusiasts, but we’d be happy to let the wind flow through what’s left of our hairline in this Tailored Driver.

  • Market Find: 2014 Porsche 911 GT3 in Paint to Sample Riviera Blue

Market Find: 2014 Porsche 911 GT3 in Paint to Sample Riviera Blue

While the Paint to Sample program has enjoyed a long history at Porsche, it’s safe to say that custom colors weren’t nearly as common back in 2014 as they are in today’s private commission-all-the-things model. Over the years, and likely inspired by privately commissioned reimagineers like Singer, Porsche has found the value in making its in-house tailoring programs much more widely offered. That’s more of a recent phenomenon though, and we don’t need to go that far back to find years where a PTS Porsche was a lot less common. That relative rarity is one of the reasons cars like this 2014 911 GT3 (Vin: WP0AC2A91ES183490) painted in eye-catching Riviera Blue (rivierablau; nonmetallic UNI; 39E; Porsche) are so noteworthy.

We’d also argue cars like this 911 GT3 are a bit of a sweet spot. They’re new enough to offer modern amenities, reliability and rust-proofing, but old enough to be rare and relatively affordable ($139,900)… at least in the context of a Porsche GT car. We’d also argue the 997-era 911 hits the sweet spot in size, a little bit larger and more livable than the original air-cooled cars yet not as remarkably wide as modern ones.

Back to this particular car, it’s currently in inventory at Udrive Automobiles in West Chester, PA, has logged 55,174 miles. Its specification is made more attractive by the presence of red stitching and comfort seats, though it notably has the PDK twin-clutch automatic transmission that is less desirable than a manual. Modifications are relatively short, but they are there and include most of the original parts such as wheels and steering wheel.

Market Find: Audi exclusive Riviera Blue S3

When the S3 finally made its way stateside in 2015, it served as a shot of adrenaline to many in the brand’s enthusiast scene. The S3 shared its size and underpinnings with the contemporary Golf R, making it the perfect alternative for those looking to get into something a bit more premium without being too large. It also didn’t hurt that the demographic for this car was eager to make a statement, making the S3 (and RS 3) a perfect candidate for Audi’s exclusive program.

The Audi exclusive Riviera Blue S3 seen here (VIN: WAUB1GFF0J1078846) is one such example, and what a statement it makes. This particular one also features an aftermarket exhaust, intake, and from what we could find by using Google to search the VIN, an APR software tune. In total, this S3 is a potent package, making it compelling to say the least.

Those who agree can find this Tailored Driver currently on offer at Haus of Imports in Lemont, Illinois for an asking price of $27,500. Find more information about this Audi exclusive Riviera Blue S3, here.

  • Jörg Bergmeister Pays Homage to Racing History with Sonderwunsch Porsche 911 GT3 RS

Jörg Bergmeister Pays Homage to Racing History with Sonderwunsch Porsche 911 GT3 RS

Porsche Brand Ambassador Jörg Bergmeister turns to Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur and the Sonderwunsch team to create a 911 GT3 RS worthy of a 24-hour winner.

    [source: Porsche AG]

The afternoon of 2 February, 2003, was a historic day for Porsche. When a privately entered 911 GT3 RS crossed the line at the Daytona International Speedway, it had not only won its class at one of the toughest and most prestigious endurance events on the international sports car calendar, but in so doing had beaten all-comers to take an unprecedented overall victory.

One of the drivers that day was Jörg Bergmeister, a graduate of Carrera Cup competing in only his second 24-hour race at Daytona. Alongside him were Michael Schrom, Timo Bernhard and team owner Kevin Buckler, whose 996-generation customer racer was entered by TRG or ‘The Racer Group’ and finished in the team’s now familiar blue and yellow livery.

Fast forward two decades and the teammates are now old friends in regular contact. And when the new 911 GT3 RS was announced in August 2022, a seed was sown by Schrom that would lead Bergmeister on an 18-month journey to a unique and a deeply personal car of his own design.

“The idea came from Michael Schrom”

“The idea actually came from Michael in the summer of 2022,” Bergmeister says. “When he heard about the new GT3 RS he pointed out that the following year was the 20th anniversary of our win at Daytona in a GT3 RS. It was perfect timing.”

Bergmeister was able to secure an allocation for a GT3 RS with the provision for all-important Paint to Sample. His Daytona winner was painted in Rivierablue, a colour that had been with the driver since his earliest days racing Formula cars in his native Germany. Working closely with Porsche’s Sonderwunsch team, a design was gradually created that would closely replicate the original livery while introducing a number of unique elements to commemorate the anniversary of that special win.

    Panels in Rivierablue

Bergmeister specified a car without the bare carbon Weissach Package in order to paint all the panels in the correct Rivierablue. Exterior elements in contrasting Racing Yellow were applied to match those on the TRG race winner and the rear wing was painted in white with side plates in Racing Yellow. On the underside of the rear wing, a Porsche crest was also applied, while further exterior touches included the model name on the rear deck and foil decals on the car’s flanks in matching Racing Yellow.

Inside, Bergmeister specified extended black leather with stitching in contrasting GT Silver and additional Race-Tex covering the dash. The car was also ordered with the Club Sports package that includes a one-kilogram road-legal fire extinguisher, another nod to its thoroughbred predecessor. But the most striking feature of the interior would be the unique carbon fibre door sill panel, the lettering on which emulates the engraving on the Rolex watches awarded to winners of the 24 Hours of Daytona.

After a year-long wait, Bergmeister was finally presented with his bespoke GT3 RS in Zuffenhausen in mid-February, by happy coincidence on his 48th birthday. He credits Sandy-Marc Bauer from International VIP & Special Sales and Boris Apenbrink, Director Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur Vehicles and Options, and his dedicated team with the successful realisation of his dream.

“A lot of people were involved with this project,” Bergmeister says, “helping to get all the little details on there. And everyone who has seen the car since and knows the story behind it really likes it.”

The car is now receiving full paint protection before its maiden outing, with Bergmeister eager for the drier conditions of spring to arrive. “I can’t wait to drive it but first the weather needs to get better. I’m definitely not going to take it out on salty winter roads. It’s a little too precious to me to be a daily driver!”

When the right day arrives, it is certain to be a poignant moment for everyone involved. “I’m still proud of what we achieved back then at Daytona, and this car has brought back those memories already. I’m not usually that emotional, but when I first saw it I got goose bumps. I feel so fortunate that it’s finally done and I’m super-stoked with how it’s turned out.”

Porsche Teams up with Backdrop to Bring an Array of Colors to Your Home

Atlanta. Bringing historic Porsche paint colors into your home for the first time, Porsche Cars North America, Inc. (PCNA) today announced a unique collaboration with premium paint brand, Backdrop, to inspire unique interior designs. Coinciding with the 75th anniversary of the very first Porsche taking to the road, the two brands, each defined by their use of color, have selected the following assortment of vibrant colors from several eras of Porsche sports cars:

    • Irish Green: First seen in 1964 on a 356C sports car, the dark hunter green shade is also one of the first colors to grace the Porsche 911. It’s a color as timeless as the sports car itself.
    • Speed Yellow: This vibrant yellow first appeared on the Porsche 911 in 1991. Not for the shy or Sunday driver, the color is distinctly tied to the sports car and the Porsche brand.
    • Ruby Star: Dating back to 1991 and seen on Porsche 911, 928 and 944 models over the years, Ruby Star is a deep magenta red that is distinct, bold and joyous.
    • Riviera Blue: An electric bright blue, the head-turning and audacious color was developed in 1994 and has been seen on the 911, 928, and 968 models.

The collection will be available exclusively at www.backdrophome.com/Porsche starting today through the end of the year.

“Individualization is at the core of Porsche. Whether it’s a custom-built Taycan or your home office, we want to inspire all to dream in full color,” said Ayesha Coker, Vice President of Marketing of PCNA. “Together with Backdrop, we’ve curated a series of bright, saturated colors that have significance to us and are sure to bring the beloved Porsche aesthetic to your home interior design.”

Porsche currently offers 180 shades through its Paint to Sample program, with the option to specify a totally bespoke color from a much wider pallet through Paint to Sample Plus, which requires extensive feasibility testing. These colors are in addition to the wide selection of paint choices Porsche already offers on its vehicles, including several non-metallic colors, and additional metallic colors.

“Everything we do at Backdrop centers around our love of color. Naturally, we jumped at the chance to work with an iconic brand like Porsche, which has always been synonymous with its bold, statement-making color palette,” said Natalie Ebel, Co-Founder of Backdrop. “It has been an absolute dream come true to collaborate with Porsche, especially during its 75th anniversary year, and to be inspired by its rich history. I am incredibly excited to translate our shared love of design and spirit of self-expression into a collection that will take on new life in our homes and on our walls.”

The four-piece collection will be available in a custom-designed, co-branded collectible paint can with a limited-edition Porsche 75 leather key chain. It will retail for $75 for a gallon at www.backdrophome.com/Porsche.
