Audi’s S4 has great history with Nogaro Blue. Audi’s bold answer to classic French Blue was a launch color on the first B5 S4, again on the B6 S4 and was offered as special edition in the B8 S4 era. Readers of this site probably also know it was a color born with the iconic Porsche-developed Audi RS2 Avant. As a result, Audi aficionados tend to seek out Nogaro Blue cars. This makes a Nogaro Blue S4 a very sweet thing indeed.

The car in question just popped up listed by the owner on Audi Club North America’s Classifieds group. It’s had a few modifications, though these appear to be minor and limited to cosmetic changes including custom blue Alcantara on the door panels and on the shift knob in order to mimic earlier versions of the car.

This S4 is also shown on RS 5 wheels, which is the reason for the price spread above. Sold on stock wheels, it can be had for $40,000 according to the ad, or $41,500 if you want the RS 5 wheels along with it.

These aren’t the only modifications, so if you prefer an unmodified car you’ll want to look closely and check in with the owner about also procuring the original parts where they are still available.

If you’ve been an Audi fan for a while, chances are that when the Four Rings replaced the iconic Nogaro Blue with Sprint Blue for the B7 generation of S4 and RS 4 you questioned the decision. And when the B8 launched with Sprint as well, it became apparent that Audi wasn’t going back to the Nogaro well any longer, but at the time Audi exclusive was simply not widely known as a path to right that wrong. As such, we’re led to believe that the original Tailor of this S4 was a tried and true brand evangelist who put their money where their mouth was. By pairing Nogaro with a 6 speed transmission, finished with alcantara-centered black leather seats and brushed aluminum interior trim, this S4 harkens back to the prior generations in many ways. The only remaining question is- will others take note of just how special this S4 is, or will it fall squarely into budget commuter territory? Follow along with the auction on Cars and Bids to find out.

  • Market Find: 2018 Audi exclusive Nardo Grey S4 Sedan

Market Find: 2018 Audi exclusive Nardo Grey S4 Sedan

    What: 2018 Audi S4 Sedan
Color: Audi exclusive Nardo Grey (nardograu; non-metallic UNI; LY7C; Audi)
    VIN: WAUC4AF44JA095401
    Mileage: 70,419
    Price: $32,995

    Location: Cassandra Motorsports, Pewaukee, WI
    Dealer Listing: Link

    Why We Love It:

Not much to say about Nardo Grey that we haven’t said before- it was the undeniable color of the moment, and its inspiration can be clearly seen throughout the automotive landscape. But this particular example is much more than that. This Tailored Driver is the Audi brand connoisseur’s choice. Nardo Grey over Magma Red was chosen, but beyond the obvious is a host of choice upgrades. Audi Genuine Accessory Carbon Fiber mirror caps and rear spoiler. Black badges. An RS 4-look grille and what appears to be R8-like wheels with genuine Audi center caps. Money was spent here, and the theme was achieved.

  • Market Find: 2018 Audi exclusive Ara Blue Crystal Effect S4 Sedan

Market Find: 2018 Audi exclusive Ara Blue Crystal Effect S4 Sedan

    What: 2018 Audi S4 Sedan
Color: Audi exclusive Ara Blue Crystal Effect (arablau; metallic uni; LX5J; Audi)
    VIN: WAUC4AF46JA187660
    Mileage: 75,508
    Price: $25,900
    CarFax: Link
    Window Sticker: N/A
    Location: Evolution Imports, Bristol, PA
    Dealer Listing: Link

    Why We Love It:

Audi’s Ara Blue Crystal Effect is the latest in a long line of truly incredible Blues to come out of Ingolstadt. This particular instance may not be the first time we’ve seen Ara on an S4, but dare we say it’s a better spec. The flat bottom steering wheel may not offer the heating element included in it’s traditionally round counterpart, but we think the trade is worth it. Less of a tradeoff is the full leather seats, whereas the prior Ara car had partial suede. Sure it may look cooler, but the feeling of sweat dripping down your back quickly negates any points earned. Ask us how we know.

Market Find: 2010 Audi exclusive Solar Orange S4 Sedan

    What: 2010 Audi S4

    VIN: WAUMGAFL7AA093077

    Why we love it:

Incredibly rare early Audi exclusive build in Solar Orange with impossibly uncommon Tuscan Brown two-tone seats, low miles and a 6 speed manual transmission… what’s not to love? Found on Cars and Bids, this Tailored Driver represents an easy (and maybe cheap!) way of getting into something unique while not suffering the parts availability issues that come with proper rarity. Imagine not springing the extra $2,500(!!!) for an exclusive build on your new Audi back in 2010… couldn’t be us.

  • Market Find: 2014 Audi exclusive Teak Brown Metallic S4

Market Find: 2014 Audi exclusive Teak Brown Metallic S4

Price at Time of this Writing: Available upon request

    Window Sticker: N/A
    Location: Eau Claire, WI
    Dealer listing: Link

    Why we love it:

We’re always interested in a one-of-one, and this Audi exclusive Teak Brown Metallic S4 is just that. A claimed sixteen S4s were painted in this hue, but just one was paired with the uber-rare two-tone Chestnut Brown interior. Moving beyond the uniqueness of this S4, we start to see where the initial Tailor of this driver perhaps missed a box or two. The lighting quick S-tronic gearbox is a choice that, while we would’ve opted for the 3-pedal version, we can respect due to the practicality and ease of use provided. However the combination of MMI-low (base spec) with Bang and Olufsen (high spec) audio is a bit of a head scratcher. Omitting Audi’s torque vectoring sport differential? That’s nearly unforgivable. And the base wheels? We advise whoever is fortunate enough to pick this Tailored Driver up to immediately start cruising Facebook Marketplace for OEM ‘Peeler’ wheels.

  • Importable Market Find: Audi exclusive B5 S4 Avant in Merlin Purple

Importable Market Find: Audi exclusive B5 S4 Avant in Merlin Purple

There’ve been specially painted Audi models probably since there’s been an Audi brand, but the arrival of Audi exclusive as a factory tailor service and resulting availability in the market of these unique specification cars only really dates back to the 1990s. It’s rare that we actually find cars from this period, so when we do we tend to celebrate it. When we find one that’s a truly collectible or sought after specification, well we go weak in the knees.

Given all of that, you probably wouldn’t be surprised to hear our jaws hit the floor when this listing was shared around the Tailored Driver team group chat. The B5 S4 holds a special place in enthusiasts’ heart, much less a well preserved manual transmission Avant. Now throw in Merlin Purple Pearl (merlin purple; pearl effect; 4B / LZ3W / Z3W; Audi) paint paired with blue Alcantara segmentation on its black leather interior and we’d argue it elevates a very well-preserved survivor to a pretty strong case for collector status.

On the downside, this car is located in Germany. On the upside, it was first registered in 1998 so a relatively easy import into the USA via contract services from the likes of Orchid Euro. That it’s European does suggest a few more complexities for acquisition, but its EU specification production also means it’s got EU specification options like that Audi exclusive paint or optional Recaro sport seats that were standard in the B5 RS 4 and we didn’t get in the U.S.A. until the B6 era.

Mileage is in kilometers, so it’s worth noting that 234,000 km equates to 145,000 miles. And while that’s not museum piece mileage, it is exceedingly low for this age of car. That the Avant looks largely unmodified also makes a strong case for its collectability.

So, is it worth buying and importing? We’d say yes. We’d also say that you better hurry, because you’re probably not the only people dropping the car’s current owner a message upon seeing these photos. We suspect you’ll be competing with many others to make a deal happen… maybe including us.

  • Market Find: Audi exclusive Ara Blue S4

Market Find: Audi exclusive Ara Blue S4

Audi has long been quite good at creating an attractive blue, and Ara blue is no exception. Falling sometime between when Sprint blue fell out of series favor, and the darker Ultra blue which currently has Audi’s spotlight shone upon it, Ara blue was a late teens darling that gained notoriety on the Audi S3, TTRS, and RS3 of the day. As such, it also raised the eyebrows of more than a few Tailored Drivers ordering then-new Audi models for their own pleasure.

This 2018 Audi S4 in Prestige trim is squarely within the “enthusiast spec” category, featuring the aforementioned Audi exclusive Ara blue paint, Black Optics package, and Rotor Gray partial leather seats with Alcantara inserts and door cards. While admittedly a bit of a sweaty proposition in the warmer climates, we’d say it’s a tasteful package for Minnesota where the car currently is offered for sale.

At time of writing, this Audi exclusive Ara Blue S4 is offered by its owner for $38,200. More images and details can be found on AutoTrader.
