Sometimes it’s hard to get an accurate read on colors based on photos. This very handsome Audi R8 V10 performance Spyder is a great example. While its orange paint looks on the darker side of a primary orange… more like a Gulf Orange, the listing shows it as Glut orange that is lighter and closer to traditional Signal Orange.

Either would look amazing on an R8 Spyder so perhaps it doesn’t matter, but we draw attention to it because our experience with Solar Orange (also known as Glut Orange with same color code) is that it’s slightly different than what you see here.

This car is beautifully specced with Pastel Silver leather interior and Rock Grey stitching.

The only modification we’re seeing in the photos are the color of the brakes. The Monroney shows them to be red, though in the photos from the dealership they appear orange. We’re guessing a previous owner had them resprayed.

    Why We Love It:

Factory matte paint is always something special. More expensive than your usual paint to sample shades, it demands a certain premium up front and can prove a bit more work to maintain. Nevertheless, it almost always looks spectacular, emphasizing character lines and creases in the body that often get overlooked when coated with highly reflective gloss surfaces.

More often than not, we tend to see matte finishes on neutral shades – grey, black, white. It’s rarer to see them in colors like green, and also more of a rare find from Audi exclusive unlike brands such as BMW or Mercedes that have coined mattes with brand-specific terminology such as “frozen” or “magno”. Whatever. In a world where rarer is more interesting, a matte color on an Audi exclusive build is most interesting indeed.

That’s where this RS 6 performance comes in. We run our own internal check and see (as confirmed by the Monroney or window sticker) that it’s a matte paint. What we can’t see is final confirmation on the color, though a careful perusal of the photos makes us think it is Audi’s Sonoma Green that was pretty common on the early B9 RS 5, though never offered outside of exclusive for the RS 6.

No doubt this is a handsome car, and the specification continues with factory options including Matte Carbon Package, Bang & Olufsen Advanced Audio with 3D Sound, RS Design package plus (Grey), Executive Package, Driver Assistance Package, RS Sport exhaust, Red brake Calipers and Interior Protection Kit.

Checking out the CarFax, this wagon appears to have been sold new and serviced at Audi West Palm Beach.

  • Market Find: 2020 Audi exclusive R8 V10 in Porsche Chalk

Market Find: 2020 Audi exclusive R8 V10 in Porsche Chalk

Nowadays at the factory tailors, it tends to be more affordable to specify a factory color of the marque in question than it does to cross the badge divide and choose from another carmaker’s palette. Such is definitely the case of Audi where deviation to that level will jump you to another price tier. Given the disparity, cars deviating from the brand tend to be a little more special and a lot more rare. Such is the case for this 2020 Audi R8 V10 (Vin: WUAKBAFX7L7901975) painted Chalk (kreidegrau; non-metallic UNI; M9A / 3H; Porsche).

Maybe it’s the Porsche + Audi association of 1970s Can-Am, or perhaps the Porsche and Audi collaboration on the RS2, but we love the look of an established Porsche color on an Audi offering. Yes, Audi has colors that are close – Siam Beige, Nardo Grey, but Porsche Chalk is its own thing and pairs excellently with an R8 V10 slathered in black optics and carbon fiber componentry like he R8’s signature side blades. Yes, it’s all a but subdued, but the owner thought of that when they went for blue stitching as an accent. It’s an excellent specification.

It’s also now four years old, has logged just over 8,000 miles and is used. Yes, $199,000 is on the higher side of the R8 market, but it looks impeccably maintained and even the facelifted naturally aspirated R8 is now out of production, meaning fewer and fewer new inventory exists. People seeking this car, much less a very special specification such as this, are running out of options.

We found this car for sale over at Southeast Auto Showroom in Palm Beach, FL. Check it out HERE.
